WEN and Hair Color

NY25

Cathlete
So, all you ladies using WEN that have hair color - what color do you color your hair and how is the WEN effecting it? I've been using since our initial conversations about a month ago and love what it is doing for my hair, but I really feel like it may be stripping my color. I have red hair and it feels like it's getting very gold and brassy instead of rich and coppery. This makes me very sad, because I otherwise love the product.

wen & hair color

I love everything about Wen. I use a brown/gold color & Wen does not cause it to fade at all. Just for the record, I only use about 5 or 6 pumps of Wen for cleansing my hair. I have shoulder length medium thickness hair.

The Fig. I have to try that this weekend. It could also be my water, or maybe it's just the usually amount of fade I usually get. I think my hairdresser went too gold with the gloss this last time anyway. I may also be crazy. hmmmm

Not so sure you're crazy! I think it may be doing the same to mine. I have been using WEN about a month also, and get my hair colored about every 6 weeks. I color a medium/dark brown... almost black. I went in for color last week and my hair really looked stripped. The texture was pretty good, but the color almost looked like I had been out in the sun a lot. I don't go in the sun at all, except for when I run outside.... and that's at most 30 minutes a day (and not every day).

Not sure it's the WEN, but something affected my color. WEN was the only thing I changed.

That's exactly how I would describe mine - like I've been out in the sun alot. It seems like it shouldn't be the cleanser, but...... It makes me very sad because I love the product otherwise.

Me too! I do love what it does to the texture of my curly, dry hair. I hate that we may have to make a trade off.

I am getting towards the end of my Pomogranite. Not sure what to do....

I'm just about done with a bottle of Ginger. Interesting - because the other bottle I have been using is the Pomegranate. hmmm a pattern? I just cracked open the fig, which is the one they recommend for color-treated hair. Maybe it's the Pom formula. That would be exciting, because I could live with just using a different flavor.

Could be! Since that's the one we're both using, maybe pomegranate is the culprit.

Let me know what you think about the fig. :)

I will keep you posted. (as an aside, I did like the ginger pumpkin better - wasn't in love with the pom anyway, so hopefully that's it!)

I do low lites and high lites - i am natural dishwater blonde ... and highlite w/lighter golden blonde and low lite w/lower copper blonde .. and WEN has actually extended the length of time between my low/high lites ... :D

I use mix of mostly Almond mint - w/splash of pom and lavender ..

I use the knock-off Hair One by Sally and have almost the opposite problem. I tend to like my hair after a week or so of fading, but with the Hair One my hair doesn't fade at all. So here I am waiting for it to fade to the color I like best.

i've been using wen for a few months and although I can't say for sure that it's making my color fade faster but it certainly is fading every bit as much as it has with other shampoos. I don't agree with claims for it retaining color better.

Thanks for posting your experience.

I wonder if it depends on the actual color of your hair color? Mine is dark. Maybe the lighter colored people are not seeing as much fading.

I had my hair colored about 10 days ago (as I said in an earlier post). I am doing kind of a little experiment and not using the WEN as much as I did last month. I am using it about twice a week, instead of every day. Since I'm only 10 days out, it's too soon to tell if my color will look better than it did last month. Normally mine starts to fade at about 5 weeks. I also think the longevity of the color depends on the volume used. I am not a hairdresser, but mine tried to explain to me last time that there are different volumes of color, some stronger and more long lasting than others, but tougher and more damaging on the hair.

Any hairdressers out there that can explain that part to me? I am thinking we're all going to get different WEN/fade results based on other factors besides just which WEN we use and how often.

I'm a hairdresser and have done hair for 25 yrs. its the developer that is mixed with the color that comes in different volumes. The lower the volume the more deposit of color you get, the higher the volume, the more lift you get. Example: If youre wanting to stay the same shade of your natural color or go darker, you use a lower volume developer. if youre wanting to go lighter than your natural color you use a higher volume developer. The higher the volume of developer used there is a higher rate of damage. Dark and red colors are more prone to fading faster. If you go from blonde to dark you will notice it will fade very quickly after the first time but each time after it will be better. Hope this makes sense.
