Well I Finally Did It!

I bought a juicer. After weeks of research, I got the Omega 8006. I used it for the first time this morning and I love it! Since this is a masticating juicer, can't I make my juice the night before and refrigerate it?

I just bought the 8004 (same as 8006, but white and cheaper) after YEARS of a Greenstar juicer (a $100 part broke :\). I am in love with the Omega! The juice quality is comparable, using it is fun, and the clean-up is lightning fast. My biggest complaint with the Greenstar is that it was a real bummer to clean - I hated it.

I've had it for a week, and I use the Omega 2x a day. I had to force myself to drag the Greenstar out 2-3x a week, since I knew it would take so long.

ETA: You can make it the night before, and it will be healthier than if you used a centrifugal juicer. However, it is better to drink the juice right away. If I remember correctly, amino acids and enzymes tend to be destroyed by oxidation very quickly, so you will be losing those things by the time you drink it. The taste will still be great, though!

Ah, thanks for starting this thread I am currently in the market for a juicer. Good to know you like the Omega. How long would you say it takes to make a glass of juice? I know it depends on what is being juiced, but I just want a ball park number - 2 minutes? 8 minutes? Thanks for you help on this!

It seems like the only time I post on this forum anymore, it's for juicers and probiotics :).

I'd say that if you've not juiced before, give yourself time. It will get easier and easier as you learn exactly how much produce it takes to juice what you want, how small you have to cut things, etc.

I juiced with the Greenstar for years, so I was experienced at juicing and sort of knew how to prepare the vegetables based on what Is aw. When I got the Omega, I'd say that the total time it took me to unpack the box, rinse the parts, figure out how to put it back together, prep the produce, juice and clean was about 40 minutes. It will get faster, but you have no idea how pleased I was with my first time use. I used - 1 head of celery, baby kale (from a bag), spinach (from a bag), two green apples and 1 cucumber. The celery, apples and cucumbers had to be cut small enough to fit. This came out to be two large glasses. To make one single glass, it would be even quicker. It juices slowly, though, because it's not a centrifugal juicer. It will never be a lightning fast process. I'd say that if you had the produce prepped the night before and the juicer put together, you could make a glass in 5 minutes. Add another 2 minutes to rise/clean the parts, and you're done.

I'm just so excited about this thing, that I had to share. I texted my mom as soon as I got done juicing, because I was so thrilled with it.

Bed, Bath & Beyond sells them, as does Macy's and maybe some other places. Perhaps you can check them out in person. BB&B has a great return policy if you don't like it. I went through Amazon, because my store didn't have the white one. They also have the Vert version, which is good, too. I wanted one that did frozen fruits for sorbets, so I didn't bother with it. You could look at those at the store, too.

If I cut up my veggies and fruit the night before, I would say it takes a couple of minutes to juice and and maybe a couple of minutes to clean up. It probably takes me about 5 minutes at the most to cut up the veggies/fruit which I do during commercial breaks while I'm watching tv. I have been pleasantly surprised how easy this is. Believe me, I watched a lot of videos on Youtube and reading threads here and elsewhere.

Yes, that is exactly what I spent entirely too much time last night doing....watching YouTube videos about juicers. I am leaning towards the Omega VRT HD. I've got a vitamix blender which I use every morning for my green smoothie, but I think I would really enjoy adding juices to my day.

Thanks for all of your information! I have a 20% off coupon for BB&B and Macy's so I will check both out to see what they have in stock for juicers.
