Weights - how heavy???

Cathlete
Just wondering what size weights are needed for Cathe's "heavier" tapes such as Slow and Heavy, Gym Style, Pyramids, etc? I want to know what is the heaviest dumbells and barbell weights I am likely to need. What are they heaviest you have used? Thanks in advance for any advice.

its all on the person. you should choose weights that are heavy enough to complete the reps but those last few reps should be really hard to eek out(also referred as muscle fatigue). my heaviest with db would be 20lbs and bb at 50lbs. each of the workouts you mentioned are quite different from each other so you would have to play around to see what works for you. and you will increase strength so your heaviest will always change over time.

Ditto to what Kassia said.

For reference, I have dumbbells ranging from 3 lbs to 20 lbs (3,5,7,9,10,12,15,20, to be exact). I originally started with 3,5,7 & 10's when I first started working out, and added in the others as needed. That orginal set got me a long way, actually. For barbell work, I've got 4 10# plates, 2 5# plates, and 4 2.5# plates (I'd like an additional set of 5# plates to make some changes a bit easier), to add to my 15# and 12# bars that I have.
