Weights Can Only Change Shape

I recently read in a fitness magazine that weights are the only thing that can change the shape of your body, you can do cardio until your blue in the face but weights is the only thing that can your shape? Do you feel this is true, and if so, maybe in the near future you can do a advanced series with a tape for each body part, maybe 30 minutes long for each body part, except for the legs which would be longer. - Pam:7

I think it depends on exactly what you mean by "changing shape." If this magazine is trying to say cardio won't help you lose weight, well then that's just complete BS.

But if it's trying to say it won't change your body shape--i.e if you consider yourself a pear, or an hourglass, or whatever--that's correct to an extent. That's genetics, & we're pretty much stuck with it.

Weight training is best way to change your shape. You can do cardio until your blue in the face, but it is not going to tone your triceps or give you a six pack. Of course you can lose weight by doing cardio alone, but it it more productive to adds some weight training along with your cardio.

I guess I feel this is a Yes and No answer. I do feel that significant changes in body shape can be achieved through using weights as resistance. However, your own body weight can be used as weight resistance too.

I think you can change your body shape using your own body weight. But, at some point the effectiveness is going to nullify itself as you become more and more fit. Using additional weights helps the muscle progress beyond that point.
