Weighted vest...

To any of you that own a weighted vest: where did you purchase it and do you find it worth the $$? Any tips or recommendations?

I can no longer really challenge my legs enough (during my standard lifting routine) without risking my life hoisting that barbell over my head. Maybe I need to "up" my upper body strength?? Short of getting a smith cage, I thought perhaps this vest thing might be a good solution.

Also, I noticed you can do pushups, pull ups and all sorts of other heinous exercises with this baby. (of course, first one must master the weight-vest-less exercise, but hey - it's something to shoot for!) Anyone have other exercises they use the weight vest for besides leg stuff?

Any ideas/thoughts would be much appreciated!

Thanks-

I purchased my 40-lb (max) All-Pro weight vest a couple of years (I think) ago at my local SportMart, and I absolutely swear by it. I paid a little over $100 for it. Check around at your local fitness emporia before going online; if you are stuck with online retailers, try Fitness First (www.fitness1st.com), Fitness Wholesale (www.fwonline.com), Power Systems (www.powersystems.com OR www.power-systems.com) or Perform Better (www.performbetter.com OR www.perform-better.com). (One of those joints sticks a hyphen in their website address, to my eternal confusion.)

I have never used it for anything other than leg work, but I may try it some day for some nosebleed push-ups. Thanks for the idea.

I have one I bought from the Reebok site when they had a free shipping sale (always good for weighted items!). It has Ironwear soft weights, which are the same ones I use in my ankle weights/weighted belt. I haven't used it much lately, but it certainly helped me do some heavier squatting and lunging without putting my shoulders in jeopardy by hoisting a barbell over my head.
