Weighted vest questions

Which part of the program do you think it's time to start using the weighted vest (10 lb) AND for which specific exercises is it best used?

For those of you using the vest currently, when did you start needing it?

Thanks for any advice!

Hi rose2boys,

I just did disk 14 legs today and found the weighted vest was very helpful when I needed a break for my forearms. The exercises I used the vest for were the calf raises and the narrow squats. When the last tri-set came around my forearms were screaming so being able to use lighter dumbbells with the weighted vest was nice. I must also say the weighted vest is so easy to put on and take off i didn't have to pause the program at all. I know it isn't safe to use the vest for deadlifts. Hope that helps.

I use a weighted vest when the weight of my barbell starts to exceed the weight I feel is safe for me to clean and press onto my shoulders.

IMO, the vest should only be used for moves where the body is upright (or supported, as in push-ups...if that floats your boat!), not for moves where you are leaning forward (can put stress on the lower back). That's primarily squats and lunges.

I pulled out my weighted vest today for Meso 2 disc 14. I didn't use it for the first 3 exercises but then decided to try it. It worked great. I have a hard time holding dumbbells over 15 maybe 20 pds. I used my vest which is 20 pds. and I used 15pd. dumbbells for the deadlifts and squats. I used the dumbbells on the high step too Cathe uses a barbell. I'd probably kill myself with a barbell.

So far I've only used the weighted vest to add a slight amount of weight to the pull ups and chin ups in the back workouts. I use my Total Gym and the vest has added a huge (for me) challenge to those exercises. I thought about using it for today's disc 20 but decided I could handle the dumbbell weight load just fine. (Okay, not just "fine" but I did them.) I expect to use it a lot in Meso 3!

Meso 2

I first figured out that I needed one in Disc 14, where I was supposed to use a 32# DB for the plie squats. My heaviest right now are 25's, and I have a hard time holding them (small hands). So I got a vest and used it on Discs 17 and 20, for the tri-set that has the plie squats. I use my 10# vest and do the plies with a 22# DB, and then for the other exercises in that tri-set, I lower the DB weight so that the DB's plus the vest equals what the WO card says I should be using. So far, I like it -- it takes some of the pressure off my hands, but still works the legs. I haven't yet figured out if it works the legs as much as holding a heavier weight.
