Weighted gloves?

Hi everyone,

A while back, someone had made a great recommendation for weighted gloves (i.e. the kind that are adjustable in the weight and can be worn comfortably while handling dumbbells). This was on the old forums, though, so I can't search for that post anymore--would someone mind helping me out and figure out which gloves those were?

Thanks! :)

Jennifer

Jennifer, You can search the old forums. You just have to change some settings that allow the threads to go back all the way.

Jennifer,
I just took the advice that I usually give when people ask about weighted gloves for kickboxing, and added it as a blog entry (so I don't have to rewrite it!;)). You might fiind it useful.

Thanks, you guys!! :)

Kathryn: I checked out your link--the gloves that were shown there look a little thick in the palm area? I wonder if I'll be able to comfortably hold dumbbells when wearing those?

No, they aren't good for using with dumbbells.
For adding smaller increments of weight to dumbbells, I much prefer using something like Pace Weights or Platemates.

Sorry it didn't help! (But your question inspired me to start my blog!)

I don't know what was on the old thread, but I just got these & absolutely love them:

They're 1.5 lbs--I've always found 1 lb too light & 2 lbs too heavy, so these are just right. Also they're palm-less, which is my favorite feature. They're much cooler & don't get all sweaty & smelly like full gloves. And I'd read right before I bought them that weighted gloves for KB should have the weights on top of the hands rather than in the palms.

I think Cathe's new fitness line will have the same exact gloves, except the weights will be removable/adjustable (the part on top of the hand had a zipper), so you might want to wait for those.

Hi LauraMax,

Sorry to bring up an old thread, but my friend and I are wondering where to find info on whether or not the weight should be on top the hand or on the palm, positives and negatives?

Any info from you or others is appreciated.

TIA

I don't know if there's any info out there about it, but personally, I don't like the gloves with the weight on top of the hand. It feels unbalanced to me (but that could be because I have skinny little wrists). I much prefer gloves like Ironwear, that have the weight more-or-less equally distributed between the palm and the back of the hand. (The 'back-of-the-hand' placement does allow one to hold weight while wearing the gloves, so that's an advantage of them).

Hi Jane--oh how I wish I'd bookmarked that article! I get so many questions about it & I can't seem to find it again--I'd read it when I was searching for replacements for my old gloves..........anyway, it was something about how the weights on the back of the hand worked the shoulders more effectively with less stress on the shoulder joints. Sorry I don't have more info! :)
