Weighted gloves

Hi! I just wondered if anyone wears weighted gloves while doing Cathe's kickboxing tapes? I bought some today at Wal-Mart. They are 1.5 lbs a piece.

Any advice or suggestions?

Thanks,

Beverly

I have the same weighted gloves and use them for all of my kickboxing workouts. I received them for Christmas and have used them several times, but I'm not sure if I like them or not. I think my form was better without the added weight. And last time I used them, I got a blister on the top of one hand - maybe I didn't fasten the glove tight enough and every time I punched, the glove would rub that area.

Hope you enjoy yours!

I bought the same ones at Walmart. I like them alot. I have sometimes used 1 lb for step aerobics. I use the 1.5 lb in KPC and really feel it. I know though that some think the added weight while doing aerobic moves isn't good especially if you have any tendonitis in the shoulders....so, go easy....:)...Carole

I have some 1# weighted gloves (from softiron) that I use for many kickboxing workouts. My advice: don't use them for the warm-up or cooldown. Build up to using them through the entire "middle" of the workout, don't try to use them all at once your first time out. There is already a lot of stress on the shoulders and arms during fast boxing punches, and adding more weight increases that strength, but by more than just the weight, because the speed makes it feel heavier to your body (see Einstein about that). I recently got some 1.5# gloves, but I stayed with 1# for quite a while first.

I have Janis Saffell's weighted gloves( I think they are 1.5) that I use for all my kickboxing workouts. I totally agree with Kathyrn to build up before using them for the entire workout and to make sure your form is correct. "Don't want injuries here." to quote Cathe. ;-)

I personally slow down or take them off during the high speed drills, ie. KPJ, depending on how strong I feel that day.

I use 2# weighted gloves for all my kickboxing tapes - but I must add that I started doing Tae Bo 5 years ago and did it for a year before going to a 1# glove and I did progress over a 4 year period to a 2# - I do KPC three times a week - for five months now and haven't encountered any problems.

At one point I was using 3# gloves for Tae Bo but felt the slow down and it was too much.

I would definitely start slow and progress up when you feel you need it but don't go too high with the weight.
