Weight Watchers....

Hello Everyone,

How many of you have tried or are currently enrolled in Weight Watchers? I'm trying to decide whether to invest in this program. I need to lose about 15-20 lbs and I know my eating habits are the culprit because I workout several times a week. If you have tried this program, what was your goal weight? Did you reach it? Did you feel satisfied with the food you consumed during each day or were you hungry? How long (ballpark) do you think it would take me to lose what I feel I need to lose? I'm about 158 lbs now and I'd like to get to 140. I feel that's low enough for me because I am about 5'10" tall. Also, I've noticed that there are several starter kits and calculators for sale at a big discount on ebay...is this something I could do without the weigh ins and meetings? I'd like to go that route if it is doable - because it would save alot of money.

Thanks for your input!
:)

I did weight watchers by myself with stuff a friend gave to me. I didn't find it necessary to go to meetings or use the website, but you might like it. I think I saw a commercial on TV that said you could try a meeting for free.

I do Weight Watchers and it works for me as long as I work it. I lost about 25 lbs doing thier online program (something you might want to look into since it also means no meetings--you just weigh yourself at home). I found the online program very helpful--there are forums there as well and lots of little online helps like recipes and a food tracker you can use on your computer. I now do the meetings and not just online, but for some reason I'm not losing as well since joining meetings. I think it's mainly because I was closer to goal and have gotten sloppy. I already feel pretty good at my weight, even though I'd like to lose another 15 or more pounds (I am at 148 now and I'm 5'5").

As for how long it will take, that varies widely. It took me about a year just to lose 25 lbs, but they say it's good--that if you lose slowly you're more likely to keep it off than if you lose it drastically quickly. I hope that's true since I'm super-slow! If you are motivated and keep at it, you can safely lose 1-2 lbs a week on WW, but there's always a chance you will plateau for some unknown reason.

I have sometimes been hungry on WW, but I don't think you have to be if you eat right--there are always foods you can eat more of to help with hunger--like veggies and fruits and eating efficient and clean foods.

I don't know about the eBay starter kits, but it's something to consider.

I followed WW's after having my son back in Jan. By the time he was 4 monthes I was at my prepreg weight (which was a 20 lbs loss) and after I stopped bf'ing I dropped another 5 lbs but I wasn't following ww's at the time. After I got to my prepreg weight I stopped counting points and kept it off.
I wasn't hungry b/c I was allowed to have more points b/c i was nursing. But I do know people who are hungry. You just have to figure out how to make the most of your points. Like do you want an apple and a yogurt for 2 points...or a cookie? Obviously you are going to be more satisfied by having a apple and yogurt
If your going to sign up on line you may not need to invest in those kits b/c you can do it all online. Some people feel as if they need the meetings for motivation though.
As for your weight, 140 may be a bit low for your height. I am only 5'4" and weigh 125. Im at a good weight now and really don't need to get any smaller.
Good luck with whatever you decide to do.

I started WW'ers in late janurary and have lost about 30pds so far! The weight came off real quick at first(well not real quick-about 2pds a week;-))but it has slowed down alot the past three months! I follow the flex plan(points system). Its a great program! I went to,I think three meetings then started doing it by myself! Once you get the hang of it,its real easy!

I should have added I lost 39 pounds over eight months. I have since gained back 6 of those pounds. I went from 189 to 150.

I hover between 153 and 157 now. I haven't counted points in months, but do watch what I eat very carefully.

I did online for a few years & lost 30lb. Now going to meetings and have lost an additional 10lb with 15-20 more to go. Online is quite a bit cheaper than meetings.

You do have to work the program, but it CAN teach you to eat healthier. I find that when I do their Flex plan (counting points) I tend to make poorer choices and am generally hungrier than when I do their Core plan, which focuses on whole foods (minimal processing).

I think it's a great program whichever option you choose (and you can switch back & forth - you just need to complete a full week on any given plan).

Reese,
I just signed up for WW online 3 weeks ago. I had done the reg. program (w/ meetings) a number of years ago and lost close to 20 lbs. on it. That is about what I need to lose now. So far, I am down about 4-5 lbs.

Most days I do feel satisfied. But it is about retraining myself to make healthier choices. Overall, I'm very happy I joined b/c WW provides exactly the kind of diet structure I needed. I can still indulge but within reason.

Basically, I track my points online and weigh in at home once a week.

BTW, it is $65 for 3 months, and you can do a free one-week trial to see if you like it.

Hi Reese!

I do WW! I just started the on-line option in mid-August, and I've lost about 16 pounds. I am doing the flex plan, but I eat pretty healthy. I don't feel hungry, but it does make me aware of times when I want to eat only to be doing something. I guess that's why I like it, it makes me accountable. I once thought that since I worked out I could eat anything I wanted, and I was quite surprised to find that moderate exercise does not give you much room for eating more. The on-line forum is pretty nice too. I find the people who post to be very friendly, and they have some great suggestions for recipes!

Hope that helps!

Hi Guys,

Thanks for all of your input. It does sound like this program can help me. I like the aspect of "accountability" because I know my problem right now is that I'm eating way too much sugar and bread. It just seems that when I mess up, I feel like it's a ticket to just live it up for the rest of the day! I hate that! I've gone from a size 10 to almost a size 14 in about 6 months and I feel pretty wretched about myself, which only adds to the problem. Then when you consider that I'm working out regularly, it feels almost like I'm wasting my time - you know? (rant rant rant - listen to me!)

Well, I'm either going to try the online version, or pick up a starter kit on ebay and give that a shot. Thanks so much for all of your input guys - I really appreciate it!

Thanks for the input Cathy, and by the way - I absolutely LOVE your little waving smiley guy. It is sooo cute!:7
