Good Morning, ladies

Well, last night's eating left much to be desired as we had a farewell party for a co-worker. Needless to say, the tortilla chips were too strong to resist, especially since it had been a LONG time since I had indulged!!! That's my TOTAL weakness. Sure, I have a sweet tooth, but my true weakness is tortilla/corn chips (Fritos are E-V-I-L!!!) Oh, well, good thing HRM said 750 after a 4.5 mile jog, right???

Anyway, I hope that you all have a good day and a better eating one than myself!!

I enjoyed the clips from the new workouts....I am thinking that I may not be ready for them yet! We will have to see, right???

Good morning Amy and all that follow....

Amy - I usually have a total meltdown whenever I am around tortilla chips. DH and I have been known to put away three baskets of those things at a Mexican Restaurant BEFORE the meal! Well call the New York Times and USA Today because I have a huge news story. DH wanted to eat Mexican food last night and I was groaning!! I love Mexican but those chips!! First time I've been since I joined WW on August 29th. Well, I counted out 12 and ATE 12. I about fell out my seat from shock. It really helped that the food came out pretty quickly but that hasn't ever stopped me in the past from scarfing those things down. I went on to eat 2 chicken/shrimp fajitas with about 2 T. of guacamole (another love of mine). Tried to put in lots of the onions and peppers. All said and done I counted 3 pts for the 12 chips and the WW books said 8 pts for two fajitas but NO WAY was that 8 pts. Those two flour (white flour at that!) tortillas I know were 3 pts apiece by themselves. I counted 17 for the two fajitas and 3 for the chips, 20 pt meal but hey it is Mexican! I had about 32 pts yesterday, only earned 2 AP so the rest went into flex.

Funny thing is, I weighed this morning and I was down 1/2 pound from yesterday! Go figure!

Revisiting the discussion we had on eating APs... I saw an acquaintance of mine last night at the benefit roping. She started WW in the summer of 2003 right after I had started doing WW on my own and we both dropped about 30 pounds and lots of inches. She went to the meetings though. I asked her about the rule about only eating 4 APs a day and she said that is all she had ever been taught. She still goes to the meetings because she says she has to have the reinforcement even though she has been LifeTime for over two years now. She said that she had never heard of it changing to eating all APs. I've done it both ways in the last couple of weeks and it really is a moot point for me since I either eat all my APs and don't eat hardly any flex points or eat only 4 APs and still don't eat 35 flex points. I guess where it would be an issue is if you earned 35, 40.... and up APs a week and ate them all and still ate 35 flex pts.

This has turned into a novel...sorry!

Oh, the benefit roping went well last night. From the looks of things, I believe they raised ALOT of money. They are wanting to take him somewhere where they are doing hyperbaric treatments for those in a vegetatative state from head injuries.

Have a wonderful OP Sunday today everyone.

My workout today calls for CTX cardio of choice (I'm doing 10-10-10 and I may also do Step and Intervals) and 10 minutes of abs. I had only a 30 minute CTX cardio yesterday (kickbox), feeling the need for a longer cardio today.

Good morning,

Has anyone else heard Harry Connick Jr's new song "All These People", written about his experience with the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina? I love, love the song. It's playing on the radio right now, if you can't tell. Apparently the entire album is written about Katrina's aftermath, and all of the proceeds go towards helping out NO's citizens. Does anyone know if the rest of the album is as good as that song?

Jane - Wow, I am so impressed with your control at the Mexican restaurant yesterday! That is awesome! Here's the recipe I'd like to know the points of. It's from Vegan Planet, and I've been considering 1/4 of the recipe to be one serving:

2 bunches broccoli rabe (also called rappini)
2 tbsps olive oil
3 garlic cloves
1/3 cup coarsely chopped dried figs
1/4 cup pine nuts
salt and pepper to taste

Steam the broccoli rabe for about 10 minutes. Saute everything else in the oil for a couple of minutes, then stir in the rappini. Add salt and pepper to taste. Yum!

Amy - 750 calories burned in your run?! Colour me jealous! That should take care of all those nasty tortilla chip calories! Zap! Zap!!

It's 6:39am right now, and I've just finished my morning cuppa yumminess. I was hoping to go for a 30 minute run this morning, then do GS Chest & Triceps. However, my left knee is a bit sore, and has been for a few days now. I know that if I start running the pain will go away (it seems to hurt only when I wake up in the morning, kind of like muscle stiffness). But I'm thinking that since I haven't had a full rest day in over a week, I should probably can the run for the day, and maybe just do the chest & tricep workout. But Sunday mornings are the only day I can do a run, and I really do enjoy it, once I get all bundled up and get my arse out the door. Oh, what to do.

Well, I've outdone Jane's novel above, so I'd best stop typing now. Have a good day,
Sandra

Sandra - the recipe builder says 4 points. It didn't have an option for "bunches" on the rabe, so I tried to compare to broccoli and chose 4 cups... would you say this is accurate?

>Sandra - the recipe builder says 4 points.

WOAHHHH! Really? Oh dear, that's a lot for a vegetable side dish. I suppose I could cut out the olive oil and use cooking spray. :( I've been guestimating this at 2 points a serving. Oh well, at least I know for the future.

It didn't have an
>option for "bunches" on the rabe, so I tried to compare to

Hm. Maybe. It might be more than 4 cups, uncooked, but I think that the rappini is NOT where the calories are in this recipe! So, I won't worry about that.

Thank you for the prompt calculations! I find it funny that this cookbook has no nutritional counts in it. That seems strange in today's world.

Cheers,
Sandra

Good morning!! All this talk of food this morning is making me hungry.

I love tortilla chips and salsa. DH and I go to mexican restaurant near our house and they have the best salsa. I just count the chips as I go and stop at 10. I pretty much load them up with as much salsa as I can.

I'm doing very well eatingwise this weekend. I went out to dinner last nite with some friends. I ordered an 8 oz. filet and ate about 6 oz of it., 1 slice of bread, butternut squash, 2 glasses of wine and a couple of bites of chocolate mousse. I saved my points for the day and earned 7 APs, so I only had to dip into 4 1/2 flexies. Yipee.

Sunday's are rest days for me. Going shopping with DH. It's a beautiful fall day here in the northeast.

Enjoy you day.

Good morning, ladies!

As I sit here reading (and now responding) to your posts, I am sipping my breakfast smoothie (nonfat milk, nonfat yogurt, blueberries, strawberries, frozen peaches, and just a touch of honey for sweetness). Yum!! I think it's 4 points, if I am going by what the individual ingredients add up to. I'm not usually a fan of having a smoothie for breakfast, since I find I'm not as "satisfied" when I'm drinking something as when I actually eat (i.e. chewing) something, but I went to bed craving it, so I thought I would make one LOL.

If I get hungry mid-day, I think I'll just have some Trader Joe Apricot & Mango O's (if you have a Trader Joe's nearby, you have GOT to try these!!) to snack on.

No real workout plans for me. Yesterday I was bad and snuck out for a 4 mile run, only to be humbled. For the first time, I felt the effects of having run 2 half-marathons within three weeks of each other. I ended up running 2 miles and then walking back the 2 miles to my car--and thinking to myself, "I should have listened to the coaches and not attempted the workout!!" Well, now I know, and I am going to be good for the rest of the week and REST.

I still won't like it, but I'll do it ;).

Jennifer

Well hello evryone! I was totally absent for the last 1/2 of the week. x(

I work for a construction company (on a jobsite) and aside from just being generally busy, I am also trying to make arrangements for a workers appreciation party for about 350 people. Sigh... not much free time until the end of the month.

I WI'd on Saturday and was up another .2. I know what went wrong in the last couple days of the week... habits I need to break. :-(

BUT... I have done well this weekend so I feel good about that.

All your talk of Mexican has me wanting some. Fortunately we will be making burritos at home. This works well... no chip basket to conquer and I am able to enjoy AND keep points in check.

Right now I have a big batch of black bean soup on the stove... I'll let you know tomorrow how it is. I already know that I'll add more black beans next time. :)

Amy - You did AWESOME. I am thinking that run totally knocked out any chips you had. :) I am with you on those new workouts... yep, they're going to kick our collective butts! }(

Jane - You did SO very well for Mexican. Counted your chips (I have alerted the Times, they'll call you) AND rocking out on some fajitas. That is awesome! Glad to hear the benefit went so well. :)

Sandra - New Harry Connick huh? I'll see what I can find to preview. I adore that man, always have. Did you decide to run or take a rest day?

Buffy - Another wonderful job on a dinner. Y'all are so motivating! Hope you enjoyed your rest day. :)

Jennifer - That smoothie you had this AM sounds so good. I am a big fan of smoothies myself. See, your body just needs a bit of rest, be kind to it... :)

Traci - WELCOME BACK!!! :7

Hi everyone -
Late checkin today. Got a late start and everything else ended up being late too. This am was CardioCoach #4. I always enjoy that workout - it makes me feel so INVIGORATED afterwards.

Eating has been GREAT - yesterday I stayed totally OP even with my SIL's dinner (boiled ham and the most awesome bread, but I only had one slice and no dessert). Today was another great day - I even had enough AP's to indulge in .... an oreo with PB!!!:9

Tracy - Welcome back!!!!! The reason you ate all those delicious high point treats is because I was channeling YOU! Don't worry a few of your infamous mish moshes will zap those extra pounds in no time.

Jane - I'm with you on Mexican food. My DH loves it too and is always suggesting we go out for some. My fav restaurant has a seasoned seafoood dish with spicy salsa that is relatively low in points (I usually count about 8pts).

Amy - what a jog that was! Good work!

Sandra - oh, you've got to try that adult gymnastics class. I've stayed away only because of my back. Some of my freinds have tried and they LOVE it. And that recipe sounds delicious! I'll do some finnageling to see what ingredient changes drop the point value most.

Buffy - that dinner sounds great - it has all my favorites!

Jennifer - your smoothie sounds great - yummy! Take it easy on yourself - just one more week to go.

Kirsten - if that soup is good, can I have the recipe? I'm always on the lookout for good recipes.

Well, I had a productive day so I'm happy about that. Finished some projects, got the house cleaned, got a little shopping done. Now it's off to do some reading.

Night all!

Claude

Hi, ladies,

I have done WW in the past and been successful, but then I gained a whole bunch of weight back. So I tried many times to lose the weight using WW again, but I seemed to get "point panic." For some reason, I just was so sick of counting points. So my question is, are any of you doing Core, and how do you like it? And how do you stay successful on it?

Thanks,
Chrissy

Welcome, Chrissy! Since I do flex, I can't really talk to core very much, but I do know some folks who love the core system. I think they have a harder time when they go out to eat, but for them, not having to do the counting makes them feel as though they have more freedom. I would guess that as long as you feel really familiar/comfortable with the core foods, it becomes like second nature!

Welcome back, Traci!!! We missed you!!! :)

And since folks echoed my "yum"s over my smoothie, I thought I'd post the recipe :). Nothing much to it (after all, I came up with the recipe LOL).

1/2 c nonfat plain yogurt (I especially love greek style, but you can use regular style if you'd like)
1/2 c nonfat milk
1/2 c blueberries
1/2 c strawberries
1/2 c frozen peaches (unsweetened)
1 tsp honey (or to taste)

Throw it all in a blender, and voila!!

Feel free to use whatever fruits you like. I happen to love berries (especially blueberries!!), so that's what I used. I love the frozen peaches because it means I won't have to add ice, but fresh would work too. Just throw in the ice to give it that "frappucino" consistency.

Jennifer

TRACI!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Missed you girl!!! I felt you channeling me too on some of my workouts!!! I am glad that you made it home safely and that you had a good time!!! I was just wondering when you'd be back!

Chrissy- Welcome to our little world! I know that for Traci and I, as we tend to do hardcore workouts (that sounds so strange to say that about myself!) that end up earning 6-9 APs, we tend to workout better, lose weight better, and overall general mental happiness better when we eat all out earned APs. I know in the past there was the "only eat 4 APs" rule out there, but when you are earning 30-50 per week, only eating 4 does't cut it and we tend to throw ourselves into starvation mode. I have found that since starting eating all my APs and flexies (plus a few more;) ) per week, I have lost almost 7 lbs in the last month where I was at a complete standstill for 4 months sticking to my 24 pts/day. It also goes a long way to relieving that "point panic" as well!!! Again, welcome!!

Jennifer- that smoothie sounds super yum!! I am sorry about your cheater-run!:-( I hope your recovery time goes fast!

I was talking to a co-worker a couple of years ago about how we are "wired" when it comes to food. I asked her if there was a bag of tortilla chips and a box of Krispy Kreme (or cake, cookies, whatever sweet) on a table, which would you reach for first??? Without any hesitation, I said that that bag of chips would be gone!!! She just couldn't understand that because her real weakness was the KK doughnuts, which I can totally walk away from!!!

Tonight was the Gauntlet. The first time through, I thought that I would die, but tonight, it really felt good and I think that it's a favorite! I am already feeling the DOMs layer in though! I actually had to take a Motrin when I got to work, because for some reason (I just have "brought it"!) I was still feeling those push-ups!}( I was a little disappointed at first that the HRM only had 680 cal burned, until I realized that I have been going 20-30 min longer in my workout times. If I had done that with G, I would have probably hit 1000! Anyway, perspective is everything, right???

Anyway, I will see you ladies in the morning!! I will get to personals then, right now, the computer is slow and it's driving me nuts!!!
