Weight Training Question

I have a few questions and would appreciate any opinions!

1) If you are concerned and not wanting to build too much muscle bulk in a certain area, how do you control this, i.e. how do you know when you have enough, but not too much weight? Also, if that is the case, then do you hold stable at that weight going forward? Would that take away the challenge to the muscle?

2) Does someone know where I can look up some information about heavy lifting (low reps - like Slow & Heavy I assume) vs. endurance - lighter weights more reps (like PS or Power Hour I assume - correct me if I'm wrong), and the benefits/drawbacks of each?

I'd love to read up on some theories of exercise - Interval vs slow & heavy vs endurance vs cardio, but there is such a multitude of info on the web. Can anyone recommend a few places that are best for a good overall explanation?

Thanks all for any and all feedback/opinions you can give me!

Hi Jodi..

I would judge if I had enough mass only when I was sure I "got the fat off". Of course, I don't really believe in getting too bulky through heavy weights, I think "bulk" most of the time is fat. But if you are concerned, make sure you know your body fat is low before you go freakin' out about your "bulk" problem.

I have a great book for the stuff you want to know about called "More Muscle" by Kenneth Sprague. Maybe you can get it at your local library?? I have gotten so much information out of my local library. As far as the web, I will have to think about a good site and get back to you!!!

Good Luck..

Thanks for the feedback Janice - I think I'll check out that book. I was looking for something that explained some of the basics, but was always scared away from the bodybuilding looking books because I wasn't interested in heavy body building. I had a look at the book though, and it looks like it has some excellent basic information.

Thanks again for taking the time!
