Weight training and appetite?

I've wondered if anyone out there has experienced a HUGE increase in their appetite while weight training? I realize that the body needs more nutrients to support muscle growth, and I'm sure it's an individual thing. I've just noticed that my calorie intake has increased by like 500 (!!!) per day! Anyone else notice that you're just FAMISHED while weight training? For those that count calories, how much extra are you consuming??

Just wondering. I'm sort of feeling like a pig lately.

Hi Carolyn,

When I did P90X, I definitely felt hungrier. I consumed about 1800 calories a day. I usually eat between 1400-1700. There was a test in the nutrition manual to see how much you should consume per day and mine came out to 1800.

Girl, I'm hungry all the time. I mean, ALL THE TIME! People who don't know me well think I hardly eat at all. People who do know me well are consistently shocked at the amount of food I consume!
 
I most definitely noticed an increase in appetite! I'd binge eat crap less but craved other things, like steak (which I normally have very little interest in) and black eyed peas. Yes, I'm weird.
 
LOL Beavs! I assume you mean the legume and not the band? I also crave big protein-y things... like burgers which, of course, I don't eat.
 
I noticeed a HUGE appetite increase while do an X rotation at the beginning of the year as well as beyond that while I was still doing more weights then cardio. I am in week 3 of HM training now so I have decreased my weight training and upped my cardio. I immediately noticed a decrease in appetite with in the first week.

If you are a little piggy, then we're litter mates..how are you sis? (teehee) Seriously though, I definitely feel hungrier when I'm weight training...not so much directly after cardio workouts, but right after I lift I feel super hungry too!

We could to a play on the little piggies thing with this..."this little piggy had a hamburger after her workout"..."and this little piggy had waffles with syrup after HER workout"...etc..."and this little piggy stepped on the scale and went waaa waaa waaa (instead of wee wee wee) all the way home"....(harhar)
 
Interestingly enough, its exactly opposite for me!

My appetite goes through the roof when I am doing alot of cardio. I did a couple of triathlons last summer and a 1/2 marathon this past spring, and GAINED weight!! I just couldn't get satisfied!

I've found that when I am really focusing on weight training, I have less of an appetite, but as one of the above posters also mentioned, I crave meat and other foods higher in protein too.

Weird huh?
