Weight Loss Checkin

....or as DebbieH laughingly suggested "The Losers Club" :)

It looks like I am down about 1/2#.....hard to tell on the scale I have. The little plastic coverplate with the line on it can shift around.....so I try to get it headed up right and the scale on the same place on the floor (makes a difference ;-)) and then just go for it.

I ate what I thought were fairly healthy foods (included cheddar cheese :9)....I just wrote them down and added up at the end of the day......it came to 2275 calories :-wow!
I couldn't believe it would be that high! Maybe I should start with about 1800 and subtract as I go as someone here suggested.

Lots of good ideas in other posts there for us.....savouring what goodies we are having....I like that one. I am going to do that with my little Jello lo-fat chocolate puddings......what a yummy treat :9. Also, someone mentioned the fat on your stomach as being the really bad area to have it and that sure is the place where I keep mine (not on purpose :-rollen) I had heard that before but it has stayed in my little mind this time. Kind of gives me more incentive to try to make it go away!

Hey Kelly.....I got a pedometer for Christmas and just set it up the other day! I am going to see how many it will add up to if I do BodyMax! 7000 for Rhythmic step....that's neat!

Is Monday the best day to start this checkin? Or do you guys like the weekend (some other checkins seem to start then)? Mondays are fine for me, but I don't work in the daytime like some of you guys may do.

How are the rest of you doing?

HI Susan. My weight is being intensely STUBBORN!!! Despite working out 7 days a week (normally), and eating well. I just can't figure out why my body won't let some of this %^$%#@! fat go! I'm annoyed as I sit here eating my scrambled egg whites, whole wheat toast w/2tsp. lowfat peanut butter, and 1 cup of skim milk. x( Wow...a whopping 270 calories on that meal -- sheesh...gonna break the bank! :-( I've only lost about 10 pounds since the end of Christmas. I know, I know...be proud of those 10 pounds...and I am...but, my weight has been stubborn for a couple of months now. Okay..I'm just getting more angry and annoyed while typing this...so...I'll quit.

Hi. I just like cast my vote for a Monday check in. When I went to WW I always went to Monday meetings. It was a great way to 1. start the week. 2. keep on track over the weekend!

I was away for the weekend with my daughter for a swim meet, and I am pleased that i ate healthy the whole weekend. I didn't even think about eating junk at the concession stand. Planning snacks and packing them in a cooler really helped. (People actually said to me "you brought your own popcorn?") Journaling my eating was very helpful. Writing down what my plan for the day was, AHEAD of time, helped not worry about choices when I was hungry. I will try to carry this over to the week. My weight is down 1.5 pounds from a week ago. This is good also because I started my period yesterday.

I hope everyone has a good week. It is time for me to go do my cardio. Then I am off to plan meals for the week.

My week has been so so. I have done well except for last Monday which is when I pigged out (somewhat) on my birthday. It doesn't count if it's on your birthday, right? I haven't weighed yet and will probably wait another week before doing so. My exercise has been consistent and high energy, so that is encouraging.

Susan: Yippee for the 1/2 pound. It's amazing how those calories add up...quick! It's just not fair. :9 Food just tastes too good!!!!

Hollie: I soooo feel your frustration. :-mad If you're consistent it will start to come off again. I can't remember how much you want to lose but as you get closer to your goal it will be more difficult. I am living proof of that. Maybe you need to change up your workouts. Do some interval type workouts or if you are working hard for shorter periods of time then maybe work longer but with less intensity.

Likes2bfit: Yeah on your 1.5 pounds. Planning ahead is so essential for success...for my success anyway. That's great that you did so wonderful on the weekend. Keep up the good work! :)

I vote for keeping the checkin on Monday!!!!!!

As they sa y in WW's, a 1/2 lb. is 2 sticks of butter GONE!!! When you look at it that way, it sounds so much better. You guys are all doing great!!!! I just started counting my WW's points again yesterday. I went today and weighed in, and I was up, but I will go down. I started Donna's Fat Blaster Rotation today, I know that will also help!!! I am going to weigh next Monday morning, and I hope I am down!!!! Best of luck to everyone this week on good eating. I don't think I've ever said this before, but I hope next week I am a loser!!!

Hi Hollie,
I was just reading your post about your stubborn weight loss. Are you following Weight Watchers too? How many calories a day do you think you are eating? I am asking because it looks like you are plateauing and it MIGHT be because you are not eating enough--especially with your activity level (7 days per week). I am assuming you are doing Cathe tapes for your workouts and we all know how intense those are :-wow. Your body needs a minimum amount of calories just to keep you alive and if you are using most of those up with activity and limited eating, your body is going to go into starvation mode. This is where the body slows down the metabolism to conserve calories because it thinks it is not going to get fed :-tired. I have never done Weight Watchers before but I have a client who is doing it. I asked her how many calories each point allotment is (i.e. how many calories does 23 points equal?) but she does not know. I would take a look at what you are eating, estimate the number of calories and if they are too close to 1200, I would up the calories a little bit (only by 100 or 200 per day) for about a week and see what happens. Make those extra calories come from quality foods though, not cookies, etc :). Good luck!

Also, you might want to give your body at least one full day of rest instead of working it 7 days per week.

Beets, I am on WW and have wondered about the calorie count, too. The points are determined by calories, fiber and fat content, so if one food has more fiber, but the same amt calories as another it may be lower in points. I'm going to sit down tonite and figure out what the calorie range is on my point range.

I posted nice little replies to everyone and when I came back after reading the posts there it was....gone again! Deja vu.

I'll try to condense it.

Hollie....keep trucking.....it will change. You are taking care of your body and it is coming off....just slowly and I know that is frustrating.

Likes2bfit.....great on the good eating plan while you were away and on the 1 1/2#s http://www.smilies-world.de/Smilies/nichtani/xyxthumbs.gif[/img] . When I am away from home I find it very hard to stick to my guns with my eating.

Kelly.....Happy belated birthday http://www.smilies-world.de/Smilies/Smilies_klein/torte.gif[/img] hope you had a great day....and I don't think the birthday calories stick to you at all ;-). My pedometer http://www.smilies-world.de/Smilies/Smilies_klein/ju_gifi1.gif[/img] read 5000 after doing Bodymax. Such a workout and not what Rhythmic step was at 7000. I'll have to wear it when I do that workout too.

Lori....I have tried a WW type plan. It was years ago but it worked really well and once I adjusted to it, it was very easy to stay with. Something must have come up because I did go back to my regular ways. Good luck with it :).

And I said this was condensed too :D! Yappy little son of a gun aren't I!

Hi everyone :)

I'm sooooo positive that I am buying a "real" scale! And ya know what? I thought I was crazy when I thought that where you place the scale on the floor made a difference in the outcome, but now I know it's true! On one side of the room it's always 5-8lbs higher, but I thought, "that's just crazy!"
According to my demon scale, I only lost 0.5lbs (couldn't it have given me the whole d--n pound?) But hey, I'm not complaining since it didn't want to give me that much last week! It hates me, that's all!
I think I'm plateauing or something, I need to do my own "Fat Blasting" rotation, but I'm in the middle of the "tank top arms" rotation someone posted a few weeks ago, and I'm really concentrating on my arms (summer is coming!), so I have a few more weeks to go.
Congratulations to all who lost pounds last week, and for those in my boat, "pat on the back!~I'm feeling the frustration too!"
Have a good week everyone :)
Donna

Ooooh a 'real' scale....I think I should too. I realise, as you do too, that the numbers on a scale aren't what we are to go by....but when you know you have that 'excess baggage' you really want to know roughly how much of that is leaving and when you have a demon }> scale they can lie to you! There is still a considerable amount of jiggle so I know I'm not going too low. That would be a laugh :7!

Congratulations on the 1/2#....as Lori said...that is 2 sticks of butter! You are so encouraging, Donna and I thank you. I thank you too for the fat blasting rotation. I copied it out....now all I have to do is try it!

Hi all you losers! ha ha:)
In the past 2 wks I've lost 5 lbs and I am HAPPY!:-jumpy
This is due to the fact that I've given up white sugar and white flour products once and for all!!! Never felt so good, either.
Keep up the good work everybody!

WW Points

Last nite I figured up the calories in a "typical" 25 point day, which is about average. There were right at 1500 calories in that particular menu.

Now I have a question for those of you who work out in the morning. I just got the PS series, megastep blast, c-kicks and imax. I've been doing on PS tape, then 20-30 minutes cardio. Here's the question...do you eat before working out and what do you eat? I don't like to workout with a full stomach, but can't make it thru on an empty stomach. Should I be eating carbs, protein, or what before and after the workout.

Thanks,
Susan

Way 'weigh' to go Deb :)! You are the big 'loser' this week ;-)! I do realize we are all winners because we are trying to take care of ourselves but I just couldn't resist the word games :).

We are leaving tomorrow for a trip to New Hampshire to visit our son and his wife :) and won't be back till early next week some time....so could someone else start this up for us on Monday?

See you later.

RE: WW Points

LAST EDITED ON Mar-12-02 AT 11:17AM (Est)[p]Before working out, eat a light carbohydrate snack, not a full breakfast--a piece of toast with jam, a banana, or even just some juice. You want to give your body some glucose to work with so you can have the energy to do your workout with intensity. However, I read in the book "Power Eating" by Susan Kleiner, that if your goal is to burn bodyfat, then working out on an empty stomach can force your body to dip into its fat stores since you are in a relatively carb depleted state in the morning. My advice would be to see how you feel. If you can work out with adequate intensity on an empty stomach, then go for it. If you get fatigued, light headed or sick to your stomach, then have the small snack beforehand. Hope this helps! The nutrition part of the whole weight loss, muscle building game gets sooooo confusing because there are so many different theories out there!

After your workout is when you definitely want to have a good carbohydrate/protein meal preferably within 2 hours after your workout. If you don't have time for a real meal or just aren't hungry, then have a protein shake (with carbs!) or a protein bar (again, with carbs!). Your body will suck up the protein and carbs right after a workout and use those nutrients to recover and rebuild.

Way to go everyone! Glad to see that you all decided to keep this check-in (you had me worried!)

I am not released to exercise yet but I haven't lost or gained over the last week, but I am still so swollen from surgery that I couldn't get my pants from 30 pounds ago to button until yesterday! I was wondering what I would wear to work this week!

Susan, I'll look for the post on Monday and start it if noo ne else has. Katie

Hiya, Beets!!!!!!!

Thanks for the reply!! No, I'm not doing WW. I've been keeping a food journal since the end of December (except for the last several weeks - wanted a break from "keeping score"). No way in the world my calories are as low as 1200 -- that's STARVATION!!! My average tends to be between the high 1400s upwards to 2200 or so....depending on the "time of the month"... ;-) !!! I've been into nutrition for the last 12 years, so I'm pretty well-aware of things. It's just frustrating, and perhaps it's just getting more difficult as I get older (I'm almost 35). And I work out 7 days a week because I enjoy it, actually. I'm one of those freaks that truly likes to work up a good sweat. Of course, I do take days off -- the 7 days a week isn't set in stone. I really go by how I'm feeling. Like this past Sunday -- I was really very tired and just didn't feel like working out, so I didn't.

Well, I'll just keep plugging along. Coming here helps to keep me motivated. A couple of years ago I quit eating sugar and refined carbohydrates, and I lost quite a bit of weight, but of course I started eating that stuff again. Lately, I just don't have the "will power", time, or motivation to NOT eat that stuff when I'm stressed or hurried (with two kids, that's a daily thing, huh?)!!!!

I truly appreciate your help and concern, though!! Thank you very much! :)

Hollie

Oh, don't give me too much credit, Susan. Remember my weight loss was over 2 weeks, not just 1!!!
No matter how many pounds any of us may lose, we are ALL doing great just sticking with it!!!!:)
