Weight Loss Check-In 8/19/02

Hello Everyone! It is that time of the week again where we account for our body weights!

I gained .5 pound this week :( Not so bad considering I am at a plateau and have been hovering around 143 lbs. for 4 weeks or so. I'm back into lifting for my legs (light weights) despite the elbow tendonitis--YIPPIE!!

How did everyone else do?

Donna, how is your cold turkey quitting Healthy Choice going?

Hi All :)

1st: the cold turkey went well until Friday night! I was doing so well, had even gotten to the point that I wasn't really thinking about it too much until my darling daughter comes home with some "cookies n' cream" ice cream (not Healthy Choice of course!) and the next thing I knew I was scooping some out! But I didn't do as badly as I thought I would, plus, I "punished" myself by adding it in to my days calories so Friday night I ate a veggie platter for dinner because I was low on available calories for the day! :) But I kind of got it out of my system, so I guess it was worth it! :) And no my 17 y/o daughter did not get up Sat. morning and finish off the ice cream for "breakfast!" Oh, to be 17 again! :)

But on to my weight loss~NONE! I am clearly on some plateau from hell because I know beyond a shadow of a doubt I ate well last week (except for the ice cream, which I compensated for)and I lost NOTHING as far as pounds, but I did shave off 0.5in from my waist measurement, so it wasn't a total loss last week, but I jumped on that scale with all confidence just knowing I'd see a pound, maybe even 2 shaved off, but NOTHING! I even shook the damn thing and weighed a 4th and 5th time, but I tell you the damn thing only knows 174.5 and no other number for the past 3 weeks! I even woke my husband and made him get on it just to prove to myself that it wasn't somehow stuck on that number, and of course it wasn't. He who ate McDonald's 6-pc chicken nuggets, a double cheeseburger and fries the night before weighed in at a svelte 150lbs(and have I mentioned he does NO exercise at all!)
So for the 3rd week in a row, no pounds lost :( I start a slow & heavy rotation this week for 4 weeks, hopefully that will shake my body into some action!
But again, I plan to eat well this week, won't be easy because DH is starting a weeks vacation as of 3:30pm today and having him around all week long feeding 3 meals a day to along with trying to blend in my meals/snacks to stay on track isn't going to be easy. He can't do the snack thing, and 3 healthy meals/day sends him over the edge, so I guess if I can maintain this week it'll be a good thing! Plus we're having a brunch with an old friend on Wednesday, who can't wait to feed us his "pasta creations!" Can I even count calories that high?

Well, good luck to everyone else and I hope someone is losing the pounds I can't! :)

Donna

Well, Donna do not look to me for pounds lost. I hope your plateau ends very soon. It's a bummer, isn't it?

Linda: We all seem to have hit a plateau. Don't worry you will start losing again. I wish I weighed what you do! :)

I have actually gained back the two pounds that I lost. In the past the way I lost weight was no treats at all, I mean nothing. I have been trying to eat well during the week and then eat a little more normal on the weekends but that has not worked and really has never worked for me. I know now that I HAVE to do it with no splurging. I've decided that I am going to be good (and I mean good) until my yearly checkup at the end of September. If I have not lost a reasonable amount of weight by then my doctor will just have to do something about it or suffer my wrath!!!!!! Right now I weigh 183 and I will set a goal of 175 to 178 for the end of September, reasonable right? I am most disgusted with myself but I am determined to get this blubber off and keep it off...IF IT'S THE LAST THING I DO!!!!!!!

Would you consider trying something? For a couple of weeks, back off the high intensity stuff (cardio) and try more low key stuff, but do a LOT of it. That means do step, yes, but don't do Imax, do, say, Step Fit, for example, but do it on a 4" step. And do only one step workout per week for these couple of weeks.

Do lots of walking, do HiLo, but do a lot of it, like at least 1 hour of it every day, six days a week. Keep your weight training the same, just change your cardio.

See how that works out.

Hi,
I lost 3 lbs this week. I think I am losing fast because I just had my baby 7 weeks ago. Plus I have been kind of struggling with being overwhelmed with my 3 small kids, I have not been feeling hungry. That however is one side effect of being overwhelmed that I do like.

I have also set a more realistic goal for myself. I was saying that 125 was my goal (I am 5'7) but I have not weighed that since I was in college, and I was bulimic at the time. I have never weighed less that 130 without having to starve or purge, so I have decided on 135 as a goal weight. My DH is a physician and he has begged me to not set a goal below 135 since he is worried about the eating disorder I use to have. So I have decided on 135 as my goal weight.

The good news is my loss this week brings me to 230, so I have 95 left to go. My total to lose if officially less than 100 lbs! It feels good to be below that 100 lb mark to lose. Next milestone will be 199, I want to get below 200 really badly soon.

I managed to get in 3 cardio sessions last week- did step heat 2x and did the treadmill one time. I don't feel up to doing strength yet, and I am waiting for my post-partum visit to make sure my abs did not split during pregnancy to start doing ab work. I have a bad feeling they did split since I feel a kind of bulge there but I am going to the doctor in three weeks so I'll ask him then.

Linda, thats great you are getting back into weights.

Donna, you made a good compensation for the icecream by having veggies for dinner. It is way to easy to just say "what the heck the whole day is blown", but you did not do that - yeah for you!

Kelly, very realistic goal, I'm sure you will make it!

RE: Weight Loss Check-In 8/19/02: PLATEAUS

Well, it looks like most people have hit some sort of nasty plateau (marci--good job on the three pounds and please do not try to lose too much weight--you are tall at 5'7", girl!).

I think what we all need are those six new videos soon!

LAST EDITED ON Aug-19-02 AT 07:18PM (Est)[p]Marci: Congratulations. Three pounds is wonderful!! I know it helps you to feel better. I think it's a great idea that you are setting smaller goals along the way. I am 5'9" and the only time I weighed 125 was when I had an esophageal problem where I was throwing up everything I ate. I had that fixed by the way. I am a medium build and would really like to weigh about 155 to 160. I'll get close to my goal and then start gaining again. It's just really hard. Anyway, I am so happy for you and cannot wait until you announce that you weigh 199!!!!! I used to weigh 205 and getting back in the 100s was a great thing.

Honeybunch: Thanks for responding to my plight. I will definitely try your suggestion. I prefer a longer, easier workout anyway but always feel like I have to push, push, push! I will let you know how it goes. Thanks again!!!!!

RE: Weight Loss Check-In 8/19/02: PLATEAUS

Marci: I 2nd that congratulations~ 3lbs is wonderful and you will hit that 199lb mark before you know it! :)

HB: I emailed you to clarify just what you meant in regards your suggestion with the cardio, but I'm with kelly, I'm going to give it a try, I'll do anything (well, I wouldn't eat bugs for it) to get off this plateau and get moving again! :)

Thanks,
Donna

Hi ladies,

I did not have the greatest week last week. I pretty much maintained my weight, which I guess is better than gaining. I am starting to be able to do more cardio than just walking, and have started doing MIS. I am splitting the upper and lower into different days and trying to get through the video twice a week. For me though, it seems to come down to my eating. I really need to start a food journal. I have just to find a way to be more accountable with what I eat. Hope everyone has a good week coming up. Heather

I just thought I'd do a quick look/see in here. :)

Some ups and some downs in the weigh in department, but we are all still trying so that is good. I have kept up the journaling....works just great for me....really become a habit now. :) So happy about that...even when I eat out I am watching better and of course write it all down. I even had a small Skor blizzard :9 at Dairy Queen the other night......so I don't feel deprived.....the smalls was quite large enough too.

I have lost 4# since the last time I posted....about a month ago. I'm really happy about that. I feel I just may make it to my first goal by the end of Oct. This next month is when we go away for a bit on overnighters so this is where I must really watch it.....but I have confidence I'll pull through. :D
