Weight Loss Check-In 7/15/02

Cathlete
Hi Everyone,

This week I hope others have good news to share in the weight loss department. I gained .5 lb this week. I think I am at a plateau, so I'm going to switch from S&H to the PS series and try to up the cardio a bit. I'm going to try to hit each body part 3 times per week for weights still. Any other suggestions?

How did everyone else do?

Cruncholi

Linda: A plateau is very discouraging and led me to just let loose and now I'm 10 pounds heavier. My thinking was why kill myself trying to lose the weight when I wasn't losing????? I know it really doesn't make sense but I was sooooo frustrated. Hopefully your change in routine will help you push past it.

I haven't lost any in the past week. I think I basically just accomplished stopping the weight gain. So maybe, possibly, I can hope, next week will show a loss.

:( :( :( :( :( :( :(

Okay, enough self pity :(

As you can tell by the little "frowny" faces I blew it last week! I didn't gain (thankfully), but I didn't lose any pounds, I managed to shed 0.5" off my chest/back measurement.
It's the friggin ice cream thing! Is there a patch? a shot? a self help group for this addiction? If I told you how my weeks ratio of protein/carbs/fat came out, you'd come through this monitor and slap me silly!
I am really upset with myself because I work out really hard and diligently, but then I'll make these really screwed up food choices. And it's not like I don't log everything I eat, so clearly when I'm spooning out this creamy, delicious, oh so fat gram heavy treat, I know exactly what I'm doing!?
But I'm hoping this weeks disappointment will keep me on track. It's like wasting a week of my life to just throw away good food choices for choices that will keep me from reaching my goals! I'm only sabotaging myself!
So my plan is to check in to this check in a couple of times this week, maybe it'll help me say "NO" to the poor choices if I know someone is asking, "so how's it going?" or "get away from the ice cream Donna~NOW!"
Well, today is off to a good start (eating wise) and I plan to stay 100% mindful of every morsel this week. Please send me some positive vibes this week, I just know if I can get back on track consistently, I'd be okay.
Sorry so long :( But I knew you guys would understand :)

Hi everyone! :)

I seem to be just stumbling along here....may have lost about .5# or at least stayed the same. I have one of those moody scales so it's hard to be sure. Maybe, if it was .5#, it flew over to you Linda. ;-). Tell it to go live on the moon. ;-) Sorry, I have no other suggestions for you....everyone reacts so differently....I'm still trying to figure out what to do.

I averaged out the calories per day for the last week and it was 1775. I feel okay about that but sure would like a fat loss with it. I had another blood test for my thyroid and hope my doc will raise the dose by a little when I see him again and that may help. I have been building up to going on a rotation that has me doing MIS twice a week....starting this week.....maybe the added muscle will help me out....it's supposed to! I do sometimes wish I had a 30 year old body so I get some of this fat off and then I would go back to old menopausal, sluggish thyroid me again! :)

Well, Kelly, I'm glad you've put a stop to the gaining at least. You know what to do. I just read an article by a John Hussman that someone referred to here.....and found it encouraging, it might encourage you too.

And just in case it is hitting you early on in the week. Put that ice cream scoop down Donna......NOW! Did that help? ;-)

See you later in the week and you all have good lo/cal vibes coming from me. Can you tell I feel good today?

LAST EDITED ON Jul-15-02 AT 01:57PM (Est)[p]I've mentioned this before, but do you think you could get a low fat kind of ice cream for you? I know your DH likes to do the sharing an ice cream moment deal, and you could make yours low fat. Is that an option? That's the only kind I keep around, so I know if I get into it (like I did last night) that it won't do a lot of damage.

Hi Donna.....I just discovered that I have that Prevention magazine with the ice cream diet in it......I knew I'd seen that cover somewhere but didn't realize I had bought it but hadn't read it yet. Anyway.....maybe you could use some of the ideas they have in there....incorporating ice cream into your menus. I didn't read the whole thing and the plan for women is only 1500 so you would have to up that but maybe as Honeybunch says.....go for the low fat and plan it into your meal plan.

I feel for you....if there was some chocolate in the house right now it would be gone. I just did MIS and feel ravenous....I'm into the PB and crackers (measured out and written down of course ;-)). Our favourite foods are so hard to eat in limited quantities!

Donna,
Definitely go for a low fat ice cream or frozen yogurt. There are some good suggestions in Prevention Magazine for the August Issue. If you are like me and you like ice cream with chunks, swirls, goobs, blobs, nuts, chips, twirls, and super-flavor, (i.e. not plain old chocolate or vanilla) then try these two:
Perry's Peanut Butter Chip frozen yogurt (vanilla frozen yogurt with peanut butter swirls and chocolate chips)
-OR-
Healthy Choice Mocha Capachino Chip (Mocha low fat ice cream with fudge swirls and chocolate chips)

Good luck

I started a BFL Challenge 2 weeks ago. Today I astarted week 3, and had my first muff-up. I had an extra protein bar. It is right before TTOTM, and if I didn't eat that, i would of really lost it. So, I feel really good, but i haven't weighed yet. I have been doing IMAX, or Mindy Mylrea Intervals for my cardio days, and for my weight days, I have been doing a set from P&S, and then following it up woth the same muscle section from PH. My muscles are cooked by that time. This routine is working better for me than the BFL workouts, I push myself more. After 4 weeks, i will change routines. When I weigh in 2 weeks, i will post my results.

Donna, one thing that has really helped me is to take a package of MyoLite Chocolate Cream, add 4 oz. of water, and a couple of T. of FF SF Pudding. Then beat it with a mixer. It makes it really thick and you stick it in the refigerator for about an hour so it is almost frozen. I add 2 T. of Cool Whip Lite, and it is like a fugecycle sundae. I am a big ice cream fan, and
this sure does help!!!!

Honeybunch...

I actually tried several low fat ice creams and/or frozen yogurts, and although I can usually make the low fat/no fat switch from food to food fairly easily with almost every food choice, ice cream ain't it! There are some tasty ones out there, but it's become an issue with me to kick this habit!
For example: I LOVE McDonalds, LOVE, LOVE, LOVE, McDonalds, but as much as I LOVE it, I know eating McDonalds, or most any other fast food would sabotage my weight loss efforts if over done or even done too frequently, so I have no trouble limiting my fast food outings because I know it's not the healthiest choice and I work out too dang hard to be filling up on junk.
So why can't I apply that same logic to ice cream? Ice cream and I have to co-exist on this planet, so I have to learn to eat a small/reasonable portion, and make myself be satisfied with that portion. I know I can do it, I just have to apply the same principles I've applied to other foods.
I will lick this habit (ha-ha :)) (that was a pun waiting to happen!)

Thumbs up to Healthy Choice...

I've tried that Mocha Cappucino Chip Ice Cream and it is a "yummy!" I am convinced that Healthy Choice is lying to us because that ice cream tastes entirely too good to be low fat! Thanks for the reminder about that one!

But I am off the "ben & jerry's", I've traded down to other ice creams not quite so high in fat/calories, but still too high in both for me to indulge in the way I did last week! If I can train myself to be satisfied with 1/2C, I'd be fine!

You know, this really helps a lot! I actually have the will power to say "NO" tonight just because I don't want to let you guys down! Thanks! :)

Donna

p.s. don't pat me on the back yet, this is only day #1! But thanks for getting me through it! :)

Okay, we might as well rename this weeks check-in "Donna's log" because I'll probably post every day!

But this is day #2 and as I peck there is a quart of "Breyers Klondike" ice cream in the freezer and I have been able to conciously keep away from it. I'm not really denying myself, I tell myself that if I REALLY want some, I can get a 1/2C (160 cal/7g fat), but if I'm not really wanting it, just eating it because it's there, then that's a "no-no!" And since I haven't REALLY wanted it, I've left it alone. I think it might be the mental thing of "if I really want it I could have it" rather than trying to deny it altogether? Go figure?
But so far so good :)
