We have our first broken bone!

It only took 2 boys and almost 11 years, but we have our first broken bone! LOL And fortunately, it's "only" a pinky finger! LOL

We were all outside earlier tonight throwing ball and my older DS somehow hit his pinky on the ball just right, and it broke. We went for x-rays, but just looking at this finger made my stomach turn. It was crooked and FAT immediately! We go to the orthopedic in the morning for an 'expert' opinion and to see what's next. They may need to set it, or even operate and cast it. I'm hoping for NEITHER of those and hope that the little metal splint they put on it will suffice. We'll see.

It was so tough seeing my tough almost-11-year-old cry uncontrollably, and he actually let me hug and hold him. Made my heart break.

I'll keep you posted.

Beth-fortunately, it's his NON-dominant hand.

Nan-yeah, I was hoping the buddy tape method would do it. We'll see.

Argh, you knew a trip to the ER was going to happen eventually. No parent gets out of that little right of passage.

I'm so sorry to hear of it and wish your son a speedy recovery.

poor guy. I hope its only the splint too and he heals quick. I broke two toes before and I think they healed pretty quickly compared to a much larger bone.

Oh no!

Poor baby - Broken bones are the worst.

Here's hoping your lil man will not require surgery.

Aww, poor MOM!! I'm sure DS will be fine and he will have a story to tell his friends, but Gayle you may be suffering more! ;) I hope for rapid healing for both of you. Stuff like that is hard on us moms.:(

Thanks, guys.

Phyllis-it's funny you say that, because I had 4 different people call me last night to ask how I was! ;) I agree, these things are always harder on the mom only because in our mind it continues on and on.....at least Jacob will have forgotten about it once today's appointment is behind us!

Oh no Gayle!!!!

Aw Gayle, (((((((hugs))))))))) to you and Jacob! :( Jacob will undoubtedly consider this a way-cool summer war story LONG before you've fully recovered from seeing your almost-big-boy/little-man crumple up and cry. Those are the toughest mommy moments for sure!!!

Let us know what the doc says, sweetie! And may this be the worst you ever have to deal with in terms of kids and emergency rooms!!!!!!!!!! ;) XOXOXO!!!

Oh, poor guy!:( Let us know how things go. I started crying for him. These tough guys are really marshmallow inside.

Oh, poor guy! And poor mom! Hope he's feeling better soonly, as my little one would say. And I agree with Kathy; hope this is the worst ER experience you ever have to deal with!!

Hey guys, thanks! And a quick update:

We went to the ortho this AM and we're heading back tomorrow at 11am for surgery! YIKES! He needs 3-4 pins in this little finger to get it back to position and to heel (or is it heal?) properly. Poor kid. First surgery, he's getting an 'arm block' to numb his arm but he'll probably fall asleep. He's going under, and that makes me nervous. Very nervous, as you moms can understand. He'll be casted for 3-4 weeks and will miss that many weeks of his Fall Baseball league.

Shedding more tears, but we will get thru this too.

Thanks for hanging in there with us!

Gayle
