We have our first broken bone!

Hey guys, thanks! And a quick update:

We went to the ortho this AM and we're heading back tomorrow at 11am for surgery! YIKES! He needs 3-4 pins in this little finger to get it back to position and to heel (or is it heal?) properly. Poor kid. First surgery, he's getting an 'arm block' to numb his arm but he'll probably fall asleep. He's going under, and that makes me nervous. Very nervous, as you moms can understand. He'll be casted for 3-4 weeks and will miss that many weeks of his Fall Baseball league.

Shedding more tears, but we will get thru this too.

Thanks for hanging in there with us!

Gayle

Awww, poor kid! And yes, poor Mom!! It is so hard to see those kiddos in pain! I hope it all goes well and he can still play football this season! ((HUGS))

Oh, poor baby. Good luck with the surgery...hope all goes well! We'll be sending along positive thoughts and prayers!! (((hugs))) to you both!!

OUCH! Poor kid, and poor mom! I'm not looking forward to our first broken bone, and knowing my son its not "if" its "when". He's three and we've already had 2 staples in the back of his head at 18 mos (fell over his own two feet), first ex-rays (they thought he broke the bone over his eye tripping over his own two feet again) and had to have an EMT (who thankfully happend to be at an event we were at) help get his nose to stop bleeding after he fell off of a swing. I'm going to have heart failure one of these days from his and his injuries!

Gayle...Sorry that Jacob has to have surgery :( Sending him lots of healing vibes for a speedy recovery! Hopefully he can look back on this experience and remember having a really cool cast that all of his friends signed :)

My older brother broke his ring finger a similiar way when he was around 11 or 12 but he was playing catch with an apple. I'll never forget how grossed out I was when I saw his finger. The two bones were sitting side by side  I also remember about 3 or 4 people in the ER holding him down when they had to set it. My brother turned green and almost passed out.
After all that he thought it was cool and actully wanted some pictures taken of his cast :)

ETA: I had to come back and add an apology for being so graphic about my DB incident, it was bugging me all afternoon thinking that I may have upset you further Gayle...SORRY!

Hey Gayle! I'm so sorry to hear about this--how scary for you both. How are you and Jacob doing? How's the finger?!?! Poor guy! :(

Karla-I knew it was only a matter of time, but I thought it would have been my younger DS first! LOL I have heart failure just watching my kids swing on the swings! LOL I always say to my friends that I can pick up and fix the broken pieces, but I can't watch it break! LOL

Chastity-don't worry, I don't gross out or get upset/offended easily.

Belinda-just thought I'd mention that while I was in the waiting room yesterday, I was sitting next to a lady who is from Germany; she grew up in Hamburg and I mentioned that I had a friend who is from/around Bayern, she thought I said SHE was from Bayern and corrected me and just kept talking! LOL

Thanks, everybody, for all the wishes and prayers. As expected and predicted, Jacob is back to normal....he was riding his bike and playing tennis already last night. The surgery went really smoothly and the Doc showed me x-rays of what the finger looks like with the pins in it....I have to admit it looks pretty cool. The hardest thing was when Jacob woke up out of the anesthesia...he was all teary and confused and just downright miserable for about 40 minutes. I got him Wendy's for dinner at his request and he was good as new.

THANKS!

Gayle

Gayle~

Thanks for the update on Jacob. I was glad to hear the surgery went well and that he is back to being a kid having fun.

Thanks for the update Gayle. Glad to hear the surgery went well and he is having fun again!!! Hug him for us!!

Gayle -

I just read this and saw that your DS needed SURGERY! Oh, my gosh! Glad he's doing better. Just wanted to add that surgery is "no joke". DH just went through surgery 2 weeks ago to have a screw inserted for a broken elbow. It was definitely more than he thought it would be. He was nautious and drowsy the whole next day from the anesthesia and pain pills. It was hard enough for a 47 year old man to go through so I can't imagine what it was like for your DS.

Take care,
Sue
