way off topic: cell phone towers on private land

Any of you guys know someone or have a cell phone tower on your property that cell companies pay a dividend to lease the land? We were approached by verizon who wants to lease 200ft x 200ft of land from us to put up a cell tower.

A friend of mine has a cottage in northern Michigan and they had a All-tel cell tower placed on their land I think they get about 700 bucks a month! It's working out great for them:7

I saw this topic on a 20/20 like show and it seem churches are renting out their church towers to help them financially. Intersting concept.

Just check with your county auditor about any taxes that might pop up if they put a fence or something similar up around the tower and so on. The county I used to work for did charge some property taxes differently on the land the tower sat on and charged for fencing and other things that were the responsibilites of the property owner. However, most of the people were paid enough by the cell phone company that they didn't care about the little bump in taxes (it wasn't a whole lot in our area).

Money is great and all, but I would check into some of the research done on EMF fields (Electromagnetic radiation)and cancer. I'm not sure we understand how safe these are with regard to our health, although the communications industry (not exactly disinterested) will reassure us that they are.
