Washing workout shoes?

I throw mine in the washing machine (cold water) and air dry in the sun with the insoles removed.
I don't know if that's the "proper" way to do it, but I've been washing them for years that way. (NOT the same pair, of course.
)

Wash in machine, then I put them in front of bottom vent in front of the fridge and they dry overnight.
