Want to help me shop for a wedding dress?

K, here's the situation. Lovely Man, me, our kids, no other guests except a photographer, end of August, gorgeous garden in New England.

Need a dress. Now, I'm not a very girly girl most of the time but this is an occasion.

I want something in green (maybe purple) knee length (I'm petite), v-neck of some flavor (but discreet), form fitting (thanks Cathe!) (but not slutty), short to elbow length sleeves, possibly solid, possibly with a subtle pattern, or border, or other kind of detail, in a fabric that can stand up to heat (and nerves!). Not shiny. Not expensive.

Leaves, garden, flower motif - all good.

Ideas? Favorite stores? Something a little off the beaten path.

Then I'll need something for my will-be-14 yo DD. SHE wants the shiny strapless number - not happening! Strapless ok but it needs the little bolero or something. She's a young 14 (looks 11 or 12).

I think this is a job for Nance, our resident personal shopper! ;)

Have you looked at Nordstrom's? I usually have good luck there when I need clothes for an occasion.

Thanks jodijodi, that is pretty! I had forgotten about Coldwater Creek. I have always enjoyed those catalogs.

You are both very funny! :D

I really like those tiered dresses. They hug the body without being obvious about it if that makes any sense.

This definitely bears more in depth study.

Wow, this is much more fun than shopping for a regular bridal gown.

I love the first one from Tess. I bought that dress in a pale gold floor length style for a wedding last summer-ended up returning it though. It's very flattering. You'd get everything in one-green and purple, floral, knee length, v-neck, form fitting, short sleeves. Beautiful!

Ack, the dial-up!

Ladies, you've outdone yourselves. I'll have to try to check these out later tonight at DF's where he has a better connection.

Thanks so, so much!!

Teresa, I really like the first one!

Me, too. But in the eggplant solid. I like solids out of doors because they don't clash with your surroundings (garden motif worn in front of a garden... you kind of disappear) and they're more slimming - especially in a deep (but not funereal) shade.

Nordstrom's always has such gorgeous stuff online. I've often spent hours perusing their cocktail dresses. In fact, I'm going there now!

Ditto what she said! ;)
LOVE LOVE LOVE the purple-y one!!!!

Congratulations, Suzanne!!! Great news! I love Tess's choice number 1. I doubt I can top it, but I'll see if I can find anything to suggest. I'm so happy for you GF! :D

I agree, I love Tess's first dress, sooo pretty! Nancy's comes in as my number two, such a pretty shape!!! But the subtle purple and green on the first one wins it for me!
