I need to know what are the best exercises to do that will allow me to get my figure back. I have an hour glass figure (actually I do under this weight). I have gained weight all over. My husband told me that I just need to tone up but I feel like I'm big as a house!!! ;( I didn't have to worry abaout my weight until really in the last few years.( after the birth of my second son) I seem to have kept the weight gained from that pregnancy and I feel as if I will never get rid of this weight!! My doctor suggested the South Beach Diet but I don't want to have to think that hard about what I'll eat when I am pretty busy. just discovered Cathe on FitTV and would LOVE to be in the great shape she's in. :D (couldn't believe that she has given birth to two boys-she looks fabulous :p )
Cathe is that possible?? Please HELP-somebody!!:D :)

Hello, and welcome!

In order to achieve and maintain a lean physique with a good composition of healthy muscle and lower body fat, you need to match good sensible nutrition with a well-rounded weekly program of exercise that includes cardio, muscle strength, muscle endurance and flexibility.

How's THAT for a non-answer?

Although FitTV is a good intro to Cathe's workouts, getting her DVDs (and there are still many of her workouts on video, but DVDs offer even more flexibility) will enable to customize your workout program to your needs. Some suggestions to get you started:

The Cross-Train Express double-DVD set

The TimeSaver DVD from the Body Blast series

Any one of her complete series since 2001, checking into the Rotations section of this forum for suggested weekly programming.

It would help if you told us what you are doing now so that we can give you more focused starter suggestions.

And yes - you can get back in shape! Getting an intelligent start is half the battle. I personally don't truck with commercial diet schemes like the South Beach Diet, so check with a registered nutritionist who can tailor a nutrition program to YOUR needs.

I'm sorry that I didn't go into more detail so that I could get a good response.x( I was in great shape prior to having my second son 3 yrs. ago. I currently don't exercise like I should (due to my schedule) but I will have to change that. I have the fitness flyer, cardio glide, weight bench w/weights (my husbands), and a few exercise tapes at home. I knew that I needed to lose weight because I have a gut and when I caught a glimpse of myself in the mirror one morning getting into the shower I couldn't believe that the body I was looking at in the mirror was mine!!;( I am 5'8.5" tall and I weight about 195. I want to get back to about 140-150 lbs. I was most comfortable at that weight. I work M-F, have 4 classes weekly in college. I work days and go to school at night. I am tired when I get home from school. I want to exercise to get my body back but am too pooped to do so. I know that once I get started working out regularly then it won't be hard to stick with it. My biggest problem is getting started and making it through the beginning of my regular routine. My sex life is suffering because I don't want to look at my body & so I don't let my husband look or touch my body because I stayed in great shape for majority of our marriage & in the last few yrs. I have let myself go.

Hope this gives a little more insight into my situation. I am desperately in need of getting my body back so that I can feel beautiful and sexy again for both myself and my marriage.

Hi again, Llgreen (I think)! Couple more tidbits we need from you:

What is your time availability per week? You sound like you have a very busy schedule, and it may come to pass that you need to "invent" an hour a day 5-6 days a week. Please list what your work hours and class hours are so that we can help you find that window of time each day.

Given your schedule, and given the fact that you need a good beginning, I stand by my suggestions to start with Cathe's Cross Train Express (CTX) series and her Timesaver DVD from the Body Blast series.

Cross-Train Express is a 6-workout series, five workouts of which include a 30-35-minute cardio component (among modes such as step, hi/lo, step-kickbox, traditional kickbox and leg-circuit cardio), an upper-body muscle conditioning component that focuses on one muscle group each workout (i.e. chest, back, etc.), and four of the six workouts include an ab or ab/core conditioning workout. The sixth workout, "Leaner Legs" is dedicated to leg strengthening with barbell and dumbbells, and includes one of the ab segments (btw, one of the best traditional ab sequences on the market). These workouts are spread out among 2 DVDs, and one of the DVD's pulls together all of the upper body segments into an "Upper Body Split" premix, and also pulls together all of the ab/core routines into an "All Abs" premix. What's really great about this series, in addition to the high-quality organization of the workouts themselves, is that it takes the guesswork out of scheduling: just do one workout each day, and On The Seventh Day You Rest. If you don't have time for an hour each day you can just scoot with your remote to the next chapter, doing what you can in the time available.

The Timesaver DVD is a 5-workout disc that Cathe fashioned from footage from the other workouts that were produced as stand-alone workouts from the Body Blast series. These workouts too include cardio components and targeted muscle conditioning, so that by the end of the 5-workout week you've banged all the muscle groups and gotten your cardio in as well.

I think that if you got CTX AND Timesaver, and just scheduled yourself to do CTX one week, Timesaver the next, then CTX then Timesaver, you'd be off to a great start, and you would then be able to decide better what your next purchases are. The fun factor of Cathe's workouts totally amplify their effectiveness because they become activities you look forward to for their own sake, as well as for their health-enhancing benefits.

That's my Point-Oh-Two - for now. Do let us know what your thoughts are on this. The key to succeeding at any fitness program is consistency. Understand too that regardless of when you do your workouts you might not be at your peak energy-wise; it is exercise that energizes you. It's okay to feel tired when you begin the workout; if it's a good workout that challenges you without killing you, you'll feel pumped at the end.

HTH - and welcome aboard!

I agree with A-Jock, (of course:) )
If you are not currently working out, then the CTX Series is a great place to start and it is only an hour a day.I think you will see some great results if you change your eating and start working out.
Don't forget that nutrition is just if not more important then the exercise. Some people have the misconception that when they start working out they can eat whatever they want, sadly, it's not true.
Good Luck and keep us posted,
Lori:)
