I noticed that most of you mention that you are "clean eaters". I've been wanting to try this also. I currently do WW points (Lifetime member 4 years)so I think that I can still do it while eating clean. I like my vegetables but do they have to be fresh? Can they be frozen or from a can and still be considered "clean"? I read other posts that mentioned the book Eating for Life. I might check that out also. I have switched to eating whole wheat breads and brown rice. I think that by switching to this eating style will help my energy level. Tell me what you guys think.

frozen yes... i would say canned no... way too much sodium and stuff added! however frozen are a very convenient, clean way to eat veggies (and sometimes cheaper than the fresh stuff!) i buy several bags of brocolli and green beans to keep in the freezer... if i bought fresh i'd be in the store constantly restocking!

same for fruit.. although there i prefer the fresh.. but i get frozen berries (with no sugar or anything added)

whole wheat pasta, bread and brown rice is perfect! also whole wheat tortillas (check the label for trans fats though.. la tortilla makes a YUMMY tortilla!)

This time of the year, it is still hard to buy fresh fruit at a reasonable price or find any at all at times. What I do is by the canned fruit and dump the whole contents into a strainer and wash off the syrupy stuff right down the drain. Convenient and you don't get stuck with the syrupy stuff. We do however eat the green veggies from the can, I really don't think they are that bad in my opinion.

What about canned Garbonzo beans ,And Kidney beans ??? Rinsed off of course . I snack on these alot . Please say it isnt bad !!! its the Only canned food in my house !!!

i buy and eat rinsed, canned kidney, black and garbanzo beans (although the dried ones would be healthier!)

but i stand my the no canned veggies! just look at the ingredients and nutrition labels.. FULL of sodium! i truly only eat frozen (or fresh!)

and as for the fruit... i won't buy canned fruit at all! if i can't get fresh.. i'll buy the natural frozen (or freeze my own in season.. i still have a stockpile of strawberries that i froze!)

i'm quite strict with myself on healthy eating though... i have VERY few naughty treats... but on a daily basis... i eat good and healthy to the point of being anal!

desert-

Wow, you make me want to buy some colon cleanser to rinse out my canned good impurities!LOL! You go, girl! I am bowing down to ya!
I will have to start reading ALL the labels. I just assumed the can stuff was fine...guess not.

Desert is right. Just checked the can of green beans that I have....400 grams of sodium....yuk! Gonna have to make some more changes now and buy frozen.
Did you know that beef jerky has about 700? I started eating that as a protein snack until I looked at the amount of sodium in it.

Fresh or frozen are preferable to canned, but canned beans (kidney beans, black beans, black soy beans, garbanzo beans, etc.) can be healthy if you buy those with just salt added, drain them, and rinse off excess salt.
