Walking Lunges...

Hello Cathe,

I was reading the August rotation and I wanted to make a suggestion if you can incorporate your original idea 400 walking lunges into one of the Hardcore workouts....Have a wonderful day!!!!

P.S. I wanted to say how sad I was to hear about the lost of your beautiful dog, he's without pain in a better place Cathe with all the other heavenly little darlings...Hugs to you!!!!

Yes, I second this even if we had to do a few and then turn around and go the other way. Walking lunges are GREAT!

Cathe,
for more advanced exercisers would it be okay to do walking lunges with dumbells? I tried this and found them relatively light feeling.
Or is there another way to make them feel harder. Although I tried them slower and faster.
Diane Sue

Not Cathy, but I've been doing them with my trainer and use 20# dumbells. I generally do 3 sets of them (20/15/12).

I thought it should be alright. My daughter and her friend had a trainer who had them doing them with a 50lb barbell when they were only 3 weeks into training. She was so sore. Being a beginner I thought it was kind of much. But you know, she started showing a lot of definition in a very short amount of time.

Where did she see that definition? I"ve started walking lunges without weights and now i'm thinking I should use weights. I usually do them while running. Run 15 mins...stop do 50 to 75 walking lunges...then run and stop do walking lunges etc.

Where was the defintion?

Ok, different question, same subject. I think unweighted walking lunges would fall into the endurance category, so would it be ok to do a walk/run/walking lunge workout day after after a heavy leg day? Is it ok to follow heavy with endurance within say 24 hours?

Pam

Her outer upper thigh area decreased and you could see the indentation in her glutes. Also you could see some definition developing in her quads.

Hi Monse and thank you for the heartfelt doggie wishes.

I would LOVE to incorporate walking lunges into the series (have wanted to do this for years already)but they take up too much room before you really get into the muscle. My answer to including them in the workouts was doing the move that has you lunging forward with a pulse on the right leg for 4, then back lunge for 4 on right leg, then again forward for 4 on the right leg, and then doing 5 power lunges (also known as power scissors)which automatically puts you on the left leg to start over again. We did anywhere from 4 to 6 sets of these on past workouts. Do you know which move I am talking about?

When we have the road trip, the main fitness room is going to be so long that we will finally be able to do these together. Can't wait!!!

Hi Diane Sue! Yes, weights are fine. Go slower and you probably won't need to do nearly as many.

The exercise is more endurance related without weights. If you use weights, your legs may develop more size, which is what you stated you are looking for :)

Hi Pam! This will help to loosen the tightness in your legs after a heavy leg day. However, if you are exceptionally sore, then give the legs one full day of rest before doing the other workout. A warm bath, light stretch workout, and a couple of Advil may be the better choice on a VERY sore day. Take Care!
