Victoria Secrets?

Does anyone know what their sales tax % is or why its so high?
I was just doing some online shopping and had 3 things in my cart and the total came to $111, which wasn't to bad. But with the sales tax and shipping my total came to $178:eek: And the sales tax was almost $40 of that! Which would mean that the sales tax is 30%. $178 is to much to pay for 3 shirts, if you ask me.
Now, I did order somthing a little while ago but I ordered expres shipping and I didn't think my total was to bad, plus it was my first time ordering and I didn't really pay attention. I ordered a dress that was $59, with express post and my total was little over $100.
I do live in Canada, but my last parcel appeared to come from Ontario and if it needed to be returned, I had to return it to Ontario, which makes me think that they may have an online store based out of Ontario.
I dunno...prehaps the sales tax, includes the duty, but I wouldn't be paying duty if its shipped out of Canada. Is it just a ploy to make more money? And if it is duty charges, then prehaps they should show that in the total, and not add it all together.
Just wondering if our fellow American Cathe fans pay as much sales tax as the Canadians when shopping on line at VS....or is it actually duty fees?

Thanks!!!!

Lori

In the US your sales tax is based on the sales tax where you live so it varies. I live in New Jersey and there is no tax on clothing, but our state sales tax is 7%. When I lived in Maryland it was 5%.

ETA: My personal experience with Victoria's Secret is that their shipping and handling charges are INSANE!

I agree about the VS shipping being out of control.

I do know package postal rates in general were recently jacked up. I have fam in Germany and sent my cousin's daughter a package containing her favorite cereal, Count Chocula -- just the bags, no boxes, so it was a relatively small package. The cereal was on sale for $1.50; the package cost me $30 to send (!). I was surprised to hear there is no longer the option of sending via ship (parcel post). So perhaps new postal regulations are also coming into play here.

I wish catalog company's would go by weight instead of by price. At VS you could end up paying $16 to ship a bikini!

I love Victoria Secret. There is so many things I would buy and the prices are reasonable, but because of these crazy taxes and shipping, I only ordered once. I live in Quebec, Canada. I agree that it should be by weight. It's not worth it! Even if I love some clothing :((

Anyhow, I hope they open something here in Canada.

The other thing to do,is whenever you buy anything on line do a google search for coupons. I almost always find a coupon for free shipping from the site I'm ordering. Have to admit that I haven't ordered from VS, just usually go to the stores. It's worth a try in the future.

Lori,
Here in Michigan we pay 6% sales tax. I know what you mean about VS though. I live about 10 minutes away from a New VS store but they are always sold out of the bras I like, so I have no choice but to order online. As stated above their shipping costs are INSANE! Two bras 16.00 in shipping, and that is standard ground shipping  It is bad enough the two bras cost 89.00 alone without shipping:(

Their shipping is pretty crazy. I used to shop there until I recently discovered that I am a size 32E (Victoria Secret only goes to DD).

Now I shop at figleaves.com or barenecessities.com. They have a very large variety of different brands and styles. My bras are very expensive, but that is due to my size.

I know what you mean. VS is slowly eliminating their bras that come in size 32 (I'm a 32D). They seem to keep the Emma bra forever and I don't understand why, as it offers no support whatsoever. I recently discovered figleaves, but have trouble finding a bra that fits there. They carry several different lines and they never seem to stick to any sizing standard. Fortunately, their shipping charge is $4.50 regardless of the size of the order and they pay for return shipping. I've ended up buying the same bra in 3 different sizes to see what fits and send 2 back. It's a hassle.

I'll try barenecessities. Thanks for the tip!

That's the problem with buying online, you have to send a lot of things back. It took me a month of ordering and returning bras until I found out my size (tried 34DD, then 32DD, then 34D, finally 32E)x( . I like figleaves because it has reviews which can be very helpful. I try to look for comments like, "the band size runs small" so that I know to order two different sizes.

It gets easier once you know what brands you like, too. For instance, I like Panache and Fantasie, but Panache tends to run a little smaller while Fantasie is the exact opposite.

I just wish that there was a store in my area that carried a wide selection of quality bras. I can't complain too much, though...at least I finally know what size I am (no more pulling the band down, tightening the straps to compensate for lack of support, jutting wires, etc.)

So it appears that its costly to order from anywhere? I would just love to not have to worry about cost and order a s%it load of stuff! There are some pretty cute tops there and I am in some desperate need of new tops since having DS. I need to treat myself but I don't know if I can treat myself while spending a arm and a leg on shipping and taxes!
Thanks girls,
Lori:)

That's exactly why they go by the price. I have over 35 different VS bras mostly from buying them in the store but I have decided unless there is free shipping and it's just to good of a deal to pass up online, then I don't order anymore. They're stuff is cute and sexy but not for the prices they charge.

I've found that if the shipping is free then you only pay the tax which you would have to do in the store anyway which happens to b 8.25% in Texas. Also, you normally only have to buy $100.00 to get the free shipping which isn't hard to do on that site.
