Now I am not really a supporter of PETA but on their website they have a letter that you can send to the NFL. Did anyone see TODAY? The NAACP are saying that going after Vick is a racial thing. I just cannot believe this!

I sent my own letter, not through PETA, to the NFL. Rick White (ironic last name if you ask me) from the Atlanta NAACP made the comment that Vick should be allowed to play football and that the speed at which the Feds worked to get the arraignment, etc is because Vick is black. I'm not supporting their supposition, but I did want to clarify this.

Now, where I have an issue is that the NAACP forced the firing of Imus over a racial comment for which he apologized profusely (not supporting Imus either) and has stated that Imus should never work in radio again. Yet Vick who has done far worse crimes and is NOT apologizing for them they think should be allowed to play. THAT's my issue.
 
I agree. And more, Imus was exercising his right to free speech (no matter how offensive what he said was - and he was way out of line). Michael Vick BROKE THE LAW - period. Two different things all together. I was also extremely disappointed and disturbed to see Stephan Marbury and Deion Sanders (two more to add to my s**t list) coming out and defending him and suggesting there isn't really anything wrong with dogfighting. What is wrong with these guys? These "men" are making all southern black men look bad in the process. They don't seem to understand they are perpetuating negative stereotypes (and there was a really good article on EPSN written by a black women to support this arguement). How can anyone defend Vick's inhumane, immoral, illegal actions and participation in this? I just don't understand.
 
Don Imus is an a**hole, but he didn't play a part in the killing of a living being, Vick did.

I was watching my local sports news channel, and they were discussing not so much whether or not Vick should be allowed back in the league (personal opinion..lifetime ban from the NFL), the question was, would their be a team in the league willing to take the public relations hit that would no doubt be forthcoming should they sign Vick.

My own opinion...I am dressed from head to toe in my Eagles garb every game day. Should they even entertain the thought of signing Vick, I would go on youtube, and film myself burning every stitch of Eagles apparel I own...making sure, of course, I'm not wearing it at the time!:)

I'd love nothing more than for my team to win a super bowl, but that's not the main reason I support them.

I'm confused too. When Michael Vick was proclaiming his 'innocence' no one was defending him. Now that he has accepted a plea deal and admitted guilt all of these athletes are defending him. WHAT?????

Also, I am SOOOO sick of hearing the comparisons to hunting. I am by no means a fan of hunting but, hunting is NOT ILLEGAL. And, if you ask me, it would have been a lot more humane if Michael Vick had just shot these dogs(like a hunter)then what he actually did.

I am so glad to hear this, because that is what it really comes down to...would NFL fans be willing to turn their backs on a team if they pick up Vick. Unfortunately, I know and so does the NFL that lots of fans(most?) wouldn't stop going to games or watching, etc. They'll come up with all sorts of ways to justify it...they spent a lot of money for tickets, they'll BOO Vick, etc., but they won't do the one thing that need to be done...NOT GO. Sometimes you just have to do what's right and I'm glad to hear that I'm not the only one that feels that some things are worth the sacrifice.
 
The whole situation just makes me sick. And now they're playing the race card??? I think the fitting punishment for Vick would be to rub him down with beef jerky and lock him up with the very dogs he used in his fights...
 
I saw it too. I don't have a single drop of racist blod in my body. Having said that I think NAACP comments are BS. I would be just as outraged about a white person doing these horrid things as a black. The NAACP lost some respect with me this morning.

I agree!! And in my letter to the NFL I stated that I would never watch another game (even though we are HUGE football fans) if Vick was allowed to play. DH backed me with this - and as football is his life - it's a major party opening day - that would be a major sacrifice. I mean even the dog is a football fan!

I don't get it, either. I can tell you this, as a former Vick fan myself, there were a lot of white Virginia Tech students and graduates who wanted only the best for him. He put Tech on the map as a football school. He seemed like a good guy and many Tech fans became Falcon fans because of him. Was he a hero? No, of course not, but as Virginians, we were happy to see a "hometown" guy make good.

So, how is this a racial thing? I venture to say that the majority of Vick's fans were white.

Again, I'm glad it didn't go to trial. It would have been yet another high profile three-ring circus that would have been used to divide us once again.
 
Sharpton's not a complete idiot. He knows when to take a step back. I am glad he is backing PETA. It is sad that the NAACP is taking this stance. Interestingly enough, the NAACP was started by BALCK and WHITE people who promoted civil rights. I think they would be sad to see how many things that clearly are NOT a race issue are made into one.

I heard one lady on the radio today say that the only thing Vick did wrong was pay for a house for his friends and relatives. She swears he had no knowledge if what was going on and she bases this on a picture she saw of Vick and his dogs and how "it was obvious he loved them so much." She went on to say that ALL the defendants were lying because they were jealous of Vick. When she was asked if she has any proof of this, she said she "just knows."

She said that he admitted he was guilty because the other guys were lying about what he did and so he knew he had to admit guilt but that all he was really guilty of was being a nice guy and helping out his friends.
 
I would get rid of my Browns tickets in a second if they ever signed Vick...

And, the NAACP really needs to reevaluate what they stand for...this must make past civil rights turn in their graves. This is NOT a human civil rights issue.

Well...I guess those 4 other witnesses were also lying and all the evidence they turned up at his house must have been planted there to make him look bad. I'm sorry, sometimes I just can't believe how stupid some people can be.
