VHS vs. DVD?

Hi everyone. I'm literally eaten up with jealousy for all of you have the Intensity Series. I have very VERY itchy buying fingers right now but I have to hold off for at least another week. My VCR is probably on its last legs. The picture is pretty crappy and it goes blank sometimes for a few seconds. I bought it in 1994 so it's probably worn out. So I plan to buy a DVD/VCR combo in a few weeks. I had initially planned on buying the 6 pack VHS package. It looks like a great deal (not as great as the pre-sale) but now I think that if I'm going to have a DVD player maybe I should only buy DVD. I am totally behind the times when it comes to technology. I don't even know how to work a DVD player! Should I spend a little extra to buy the Intensity Series on DVD? Is it worth it?

RE: DVD !!!

IMHO you'd be nuts to buy the VHS package when you plan on getting a DVD player. I predict that the VHS system will be totally obsolete within a couple three years, and even DVD techonology is going to be completely overhauled within two years. (This from a young good-looking tech-head named "Eric" at our local Best Buy a couple of weekends ago.)

If I can work a 5-disc programmable DVD player, you can do anything with any kind of DVD player. My suggestion is to set your sites on a 5-disc-er (we got ours for $168.00 not including rebate two weeks ago), and that was not the cheapest model they had.

The DVD options so very much expand what you can do and how efficiently you can do it; plus on Cathe's workouts you get bonus features that she does not put on VHS.

Go ahead and get the DVD

I like the idea of ordering DVDs from Cathe because they are guaranteed for life. I'm pretty sure this is not the case for VHS, but someone else can confirm.

As far as VHS becoming obsolete in the next few years, color me unconvinced. DVD is popular and a great technology, but VHS will be around for a long, long time. Think about it, audio cassette tapes did not become obsolete just because CDs came on the market. :)

Since Cathe dvds are guaranteed, I'd buy the dvd. But here is some FYI about the dvd and vhs mediums. My boyfriend works for a DVD/VHS replicating company and both formats will be around for many years. VHS tapes can be thrown around and take much abuse where dvds can scratch easily and become unviewable. Sony and Warner have put alot of backing into DVDs so the format will be around not like the betamax.
