I know what you mean -- I've been a secretary/paralegal for almost 24 years (I do not have a degree -- started out as a legal secretary when I was 19 years old and worked my way up). Well, after my second daughter was born, I quit my job to stay home with her (I was working in a defense firm at the time and was the paralegal to the senior partner.) Anyhow, on a part-time basis, I worked for a paralegal agency interviewing paralegals for temp/permanent jobs. You wouldn't believe some of the resumes we received. Bad grammer, misspelled words, etc. And what was sad, the really bad resumes came from the college graduates. The great resumes came from people who had worked in the legal field for many, many years and had great work experience. Most of the companies who wanted paralegals required at least a college degree (I didn't understand that because experience, to me, was far better!). I was just glad I wasn't looking for a full time job at that time, because I would not have been qualified. Later, then I wanted to find something more part-time/at-home work, I was hired by a solo practitioner who was looking for a paralegal (I've been with him now for about 10 1/2 years). He hired me based on my experience, not by any degrees I obtained.
Anyhow -- I've gotten off track a bit, but thought I would rant along with you!!!
