Very good article about getting a dog...

Dog bite laws can be pretty strict. I am surprised she IS still allowed to have dogs.

You are so right that it's not the dog's fault but they do get all the blame. :(

>Dog abuse makes me sad. My two pit bulls are so sweet.
>However shelters are overloaded with them because people are
>afraid of them. It breaks my heart. I had a guy at work
>actually tell me that pit bulls have a "mean gene" that will
>come out at any time and cause them to attack. When I walk
>them sometimes people cross to the other side of the street to
>avoid them. :(

Oh, I totally relate! People give me the dirtiest comments about having a pit bull around my kids, even if she is only half pit. She is a GREAT dog, she absolutely adores the kids and she is so obedient. She is very loyal and honestly, she probably would protect us if she felt we were being threatened, but she hasn't met anyone she didn't want to please so far. I could just go on and on about this, but I am grateful that we don't live in an area where BSL is an issue yet. I will just continue to let Lucy defy everyone's assumptions about her. :)

I WILL NOT go on a vaction unless someone can come stay with the babies. I have a doggie door and realistically someone could come and check on them once a day to make sure they have food/water but I won't do it. I am going away in July and DF is staying here with the babies.

Can I just say that I am so happy to see so many responsible people in this thread who love animals and care for them!? It really does my heart so much good!!! :D

>Speaking of pit bulls being the number one breed in the 50s,
>wasn't the dog from the "Little Rascals" movies a pit bull? I
>can't remember if he was or not.

yes, it was! :) Helen Keller also had a pitty as did Roosevelt and Michael J. Fox; they were used as rescue dogs for the Columbia Shuttle... great dogs!!! :7
