It is really kind of hard to explain - yet easy to use!

There's a picture on the upper left hand side (top) of the website that helps: http://www.versagripps.com/

Also I will try to explain. But see if you can find the photo I mean - it changes between pictures labelled Pulling, Pushing, and Self Supporting.
When you put the Gripp on, you want it to look like the Self Supporting picture, with the flap on the palm side and the wrist band velcro'd shut. There will be a bulge at the end, near the base of your fingers.

Next, try using them pulling, say for a deadlift or a row. Take a look at the Pulling picture. What you want is to slip the top of your hand over the bar as though you were going to pick it up normally. The flap will need to curl underneath the bar and wrap around it. This will place the bulge against your palm, with the bar in between. The flap needs to curl around the bar, and you will then hold flap against the bar with your fingers.

I wish I could show you! I'll see if there's a picture somewhere.

Addendum. There are videos at the VersaGripp link I posted above. None of them clearly show how to do the finger placement on the flap, though you can kind of see it. If you've rolled a magazine into a cyllinder, and held it in one hand so that your fingers kept the pages from opening, it's similar.

Yes, just like Shadowpup says. This can be done with the dumbell, too.

Once you have the flap underneath the dumbell and your hand, over the bar, it's almost as if you are supporting the dumbell with the flap. You don't have to grip the dumbell or bar so tightly.

There is not a lot of "flap" on mine. When using my Gripps with a bar or dumbell, my "flap" goes to about where my fingers meet the hand.

Good luck with your Versa Gripps! I hated mine at first because I wasn't using them properly but once I figured them out I was in Heaven!

I wish the people at Versa Gripps would take the time to write clear directions because they have a great product.

Let us know how you do. :)

Since you are saying they are too short, sounds like you may be wearing them too high on your wrist. They should sit more at the base of your hand than up on the wrist. They should also be wore loose enough that you could spin them around and move the flap to the back of your hand and out of the way, WITHOUT loosing them or removing them. HTH!

Don't give up on them! Once you get it, you will love them.

In the videos section at the website posted, check out the first video. I think it's the Dr. Clay show. He puts them on and without a weight shows you how they should wrap around your wrist and how the flap goes around the weight. Doesn't help a lot, but it might give you an "aha" while you work with it at the same time!
