vegetable leather

Well, with boot season just around the corner. I've been on the hunt for a pair of boots. I found a pair that look great by BORN but the despcription says vegetable leather. Does anyone own a pair of vegetable leather boots or shoes? I know BORN is a great durable, comfortable brand and you get what you pay for but the reseach I've found online says that vegetable leather does not hold up well if they get wet. I don't mind paying good money for a pair of shoes that I'll wear all the time but I do mind spending $200 on a pair that will fall apart when it rains. Thanks.

I just wanted to say I thought your thread was going to have a recipe for something like fruit leather but using veggies and I was sooo excited!!!!

Sorry  I've never heard of shoes made out of vegetables?

Sorry, . . .I know when I first read that the boot were made of vegetable leather it stumped me big time.

I don't wear dead-animal-hide leather, and have had many pairs of shoes made from other types of materials, including synthetic leather, but I've never heard of anything specifically called "vegetable leather."

Different types of non-leather materials wear differently. Some are even sturdier than leather, some are not.

ETA: I just did a web search, and evidently it's the name for cotton coated with Indian rubber. Doesn't sound very sturdy to me.

On the other hand, there is something called 'vegetable tanned leather" which is leather tanned using a vegetable product.

I buy a lot of shoes at Payless -- many of their shoes are vegan. They are all labeled clearly and priced low.
