Hi - I need ideas/suggestions from you healthy, fun gals:

I won a $1,000 toward a trip of my choice to be used by the end of this year. This money can be used toward hotel/airfare, and I'm hoping "resort" amenities or a package of some sort. My idea is to go somewhere to take cool classes -- like yoga w/ beautiful scenery. Whether that's in Phuket (kidding, too expensive!) or Cali or Costa Rica, I'm open to suggestions.

Granted, I want to see things, too...and possibly take a friend or two...not just navel-gaze the whole time. But any suggestions? I'm just starting my search.....THX!

Oh, you should come to Minnesota! LOL! Just kidding! Maybe Iowa would be better? LOL!
Ok, really though I don't have any good suggestions, I obviously don't live in an area that is traveled to very often during the bleak winter months.

When I researched my honeymoon I found this incredible resort on an island off Antigua called Jumby Bay. It was about $3500 for an all inclusive trip for two (food, drinks, accommodations).

What was so nice about it was each room was decorated differently with canopied beds, antiques, etc. They had frequent shuttles to the main island or you could just stay there & lounge on the beach.

My ex hubby had a fear of flying & refused to go (we ended up taking a Royal Carribbean cruise instead, which was awesome, but I'm still disappointed we didn't do Jumby Bay).

Anyway, the place remains #1 on my list if I ever do take a real vacation.

If you want to take cool classes w/beautiful scenery, I highly recommend looking into Phoenix/Scottsdale. There are many resort/spas in the area to choose from. And the shopping is great!

If you want to mix it up with some alternatives to classes, I'll second the Sea of Cortez. There are lots of resorts in the Los Cabos area and several offer classes, too (the Westin Regina and Pueblo Bonito Rose come to mind). You can kayak, as Robin suggested, or you can snorkel, go horseback riding, hike, tour the desert on an ATV, parasail, jetski, or go deep sea fishing. Cabo San Lucas has a lively club scene if you like that.

I've heard great thinks about Costa Rica - canopy tours, whitewater rafting, surfing, etc. But I've never actually gone there myself.

DH and I spent a week in Costa Rica last March. We absolutely loved it!! There are lots of eco-tours and stuff that you can do. I've also seen some online ads for yoga retreats and stuff like that. DH and I had a travel agent book us a car and our hotels ahead of time and we just did the rest (canopy tours, nature hikes, etc) as we felt like it.

Some Google searching should turn up a lot of info.

Edited to add: I think our hotel, car and airfare came to about $1000-$1200 per person, but we did a pretty upscale hotel for three days.

If money is no object I'd go to Canyon Ranch Tucson Arizona. I went there about 10 years ago when I had some money. They have spa cuisine that is delicious and all kinds of fitness classes, including lots of yoga. Also lots of massage options. The scenery is beautiful at the ranch too.

Thanks for all the suggestions! I second Canyon Ranch, but whoa - a little pricey for my pocket! I'll keep researching for good deals...
