Vacation woes

Cathlete
I've been looking forward to my vacation for a long time, but now that it's here, well.

Late last night a crown fell out of my mouth. My dentist said that when it finally falls out, she wants to send me to a surgeon because the crown doesn't have much to hold on to. It miraculously held on for about 6 months. Of course she's on vacation now and I'm leaving tomorrow and it hurts to eat on that side. I'm going to try to get the on-call dentist to replace the crown today, but even if he can fit me in, I don't know if it will hold.

The weather is supposed to finally start being GORGEOUS here the day I leave, and on the cruise rain is expected for the next 10 days.

I've never been on a cruise before, but after all those hours in airports and airplanes, if the weather is bad, the excursions are cancelled and I can't eat the food, I think I'm going to cry. :(

This is probably just a bad morning, and I'm probably just being a baby, but thanks for letting me vent. I'm really going to miss my puter and these forums while I'm gone!

Man! what hellacious timing for dental problems huh?x( SOrry about you tooth. i hope the on call can see you. cruises are so much fun and it would be a shame if you can't eat the food! tha's the best part imho. I will keep my fingers crossed that your tooth gets fixed and it doesn't rain on your trip;-)

Oh Nancy I am sorry to hear you are havin these probs right before a vacation. I hope you feel better. Can you try and find another dentist to see before you leave. Explain it is an emergency. Then pray it holds and you can have a fun trip.

Terri

Nancy,

That is horrible timing hopefully they can put the crown right back on for you today.

Oh Nancy, I'm so sorry your trip is starting off on the wrong foot like this, and after you've been looking forward to it for so long!!! :-( :-( :-(

I'm crossing my fingers that your dentist was able to get you fixed up today. And about the rain, well, remember that there are a zillion fun things to do onboard the ship besides sit by the pool! Plus, the ship might just sail right through the rain to a sunny place, and then you'll have that wonderful rain-fresh air! :)

I hope you have a wonderful time, and can't wait to hear about it -- I'm betting everything will turn out great!!! :)

Nancy -

You must be sharing the same black cloud with Shelley! Terrible timing!

I'm sure you can get the crown fixed in time and after that you'll be glad to get away for awhile to just relax. Who cares if it rains? They have plenty of things to do - plus the eating can't be beat!

Good luck and let us know how it goes! We'll miss you!

Take a breath, it'll be ok. At least a temporary crown should hold you through you vacation. And remember, relax and have fun. It'll all be here when you get back. And when you do get back, you should p.m. me about that crown lengthening surgery - I've had it twice.

Go try to enjoy.

I hear you, Nancy. We have a big weekend planned for the kids this weekend which involves a lot of walking, swimming and hiking. So what do I do? I go outside barefoot to look at my flowers and kill some beetles}( and end up stepping on a bee ON THE BOTTOM OF MY FOOT! x( x( x(

I have lost a crown, once, too. Just chew on one side of your mouth. It is really awkward at first, but you can still enjoy the food.

I hope you have a good time anyways!

Missy

Thank you all so much for the kind words.

I was a wreck yesterday. The on-call dentist was able to fit me in and he was great. He was very sympathetic and he was able to put a post in to hold the crown on, which he promised would hold for 2 weeks. He also found that I had chipped a tooth and he smoothed it down for me so that I wouldn't cut my tongue. I told him he was my hero.

He said when I get back I need to see my regular dentist, and will probably need an implant for that tooth, but that as long as I don't try to break a lobster claw with my teeth, I'm good to go for awhile.

I am enormously relieved.

Note: You know, my dentist works in an office with several others and someone is always there and it really makes a difference, because this guy had my chart and all my x-rays on hand. My last dentist was a solo and when he was on vacation, I had to go to a different office that didn't have my records. Long story short, if you're shopping for a dentist, pick an office with several dentists who work together.

Okay, sorry so long-winded. I'm off to Alaska!!! :D

Glad it all worked out with your dentist.

ALASKA!!! - one of my dream vacation spots, if I can just convince DH. Have a wonderful time!

Whew...I'm so glad it worked out, Nancy! Have a wonderful vacation and we want to hear all about it (including pictures) when you get back! RELAX AND HAVE FUN!!!

Nancy I a m so glad it worked out for you. I had a similar experience a year ago. We were going to Calif. for Dh Reunion. I lost a filling. They put in a temporary one till I got back and had it repaired. I cannot immagine a crown. I have 4 and have had one replaced
I am sure if they take care of it so you can eat it will not be an issue. I hope you have a wonderful time, which I am sure you will:)

Nancy, have a wonderful time! Glad you were able to get in to see the other dentist. I can relate with crown problems as I am eating on one side right now. Grrr! Can't wait to see your pix and like Kathy said, if it's raining there is tons of other things to do. Happy Cruising!
