using core dvd's in lieu of pilates

I had a running injury and needed physical therapy. It is now better, and I can exercise again, but physical therapist recommended I go to Pilates to address the root cause of my injury, which was core weakness and hip instability. My question is whether Pilates offers any unique benefits, or whether I can achieve the same core and hip improvements with your workouts. Could I do your workouts instead of Pilates, or are both necessary? Thank you!
