unemployment revisited

Govtgirl really got me thinking, . .the other day I was dropping off my son's play date at his house and just chatting with my son's friends mom and dad. Now a little background. Both his mom and dad are obese and LOVE to drink and I mean drink. They literally wake up and have mamosa's and bloody mary's for breakfast. So the dad was telling me that he was going to fight his employer for disability. Aparently he saw a Dr. and because of his weight he has developed a type of arthritis (sp?) in his ankles. So his employer because of some disability laws cannot fire him but they can give him another job description and title. They offer him a desk job and he ademently informs them that there is no way he will learn how to use a computer. So he treatens to file some sort of suit against them for discrimination and is trying to get 60% for life disability for life and says that he will just cash in on social security so he'll never have to work another day in his life again. Now I so wanted to say so basically I am paying for you to sit on your big giant back side and scratch your bum all day? I mean this makes me sick. So because you have physcial limitations because you choose to do nothing about it you get social security and disability? This just makes me vomit. When I know that there are hard working people out there who have genuine disabilities that NEED their social security there are people out there trying to take advantage of the system. I can't stand these people, what is more they are making their son into what they are. After my little guys little league game I took them to a McDonalds for an ice cream cone and we just happened to run into them and my kids friend had a big mac, large fry, medium sprite, 1/2 a double cheese burger and a chocolate dipped ice cream cone and the 7 year old ate every single bite and the mother wonders why his Dr. said that he was obese? The dad was making fun of me saying that I was to strict with what my kids eat and asked why wouldn't I get them something else besides the apple dippers (without the caramel sauce) and an ice cream cone. I mean someone please tell me that he is not going to get away with this? Someone who can work but refuses to cash in on disability and social security??

Well, karma's a bitch, and he'll get his by realizing that Social Security really is not enough to live on. Also, with his lifestyle he won't be alive for long anyway so it's not as if our tax dollars will support him very long.

Very true. I just hate when people who choose to live an unhealthy lifestyle try to cut me off at the knees just because I choose to take care of myself and my family. I don't know much about diability or social securtiy but I would really like to believe that they investigate all claims and don't just hand out money to just anyone claiming that they have a bad back.

I don't know about social security or disability, but I worked in a workers' compensation firm for 16 years and it is very disheartening how many people try and take advantage of THAT assistance. And workers' compensation benefits are not nearly what people tend to think they are. . . yet there are so many people who would rather try to take "them" for everything they can even if it's not enough, rather than get a job.

There are many people who really need social security and disability as well as workers' compensation and people like these just end up making it bad for everyone.

ugh what a d**k. honestly. my in-laws practically do the same thing and blame others for their misfortunes meanwhile dh and i make well under 33,000 a year and have a disable child and good luck getting help!! we practically beg for help. i did a lot work on my own with her but its just not enough to help her succeed further. we know have in home therapy where both her and i get help(i am learning a lot to do on my own since this is temporary)

meanwhile my inlaws drink and smoke and eat like crap and they get medical and foodstamps. shame on ppl, doesn't anybody have pride in an honest days work no matter what it is!!! you think i am proud working part time as a school cafeteria worker?!?! not with my experience in restaurants and cooking but it was the only job that would work with school hours so i can be home with my disabled child but they are to good to work at mcdonald's even though they don't have a pot to pee in or a window to throw it out of basically.

i wish it was like back in day when i was growing up when this was meant to help ppl and you had so long to get off your butt and get to work. even then you may qualify for help as long as you made the effort. there is no effort anymore and states let it happen!!! pathetic.

btw i am down right a b**ch when ppl comment to me about how i raise my child. my daughter makes very good choices, she chooses apple dippers when do go to mcdonalds and she choose a juice instead of soda. it was all leading by example. even last night she ate part of my salad. i am a dictator when it comes to homework and chores but when they get done she gets rewarded with computer or wii time NOT the other way around!

Oh my gosh Kassia. I know what you mean. My son was diagnoised autistic at the age of 2, rediagnoised when he turned 6 to aspergers but my husband and I went into massive debt to pay for private therapy and parent training well in excess of $40,000. I couldn't get the school district to pay for therapy because the laws state that they don't have to provide the best treatment just what is acceptable. They would always describe it as we don't have to provide you with the BMW version of therapy we only provide the hyundai used car version. Of course as a parent you want to tell them to kiss your, . . .well every parent wants what is best for their kids and as a parent you'll do whatever it takes. I decided to be a stay at home mom and take the therapy into my own hands. I got certified and attended seminars and now my son is doing fantastic. Of course living on that single income and going into debt for 4 years to pay for it all was not fun. At one point someone told me to look into social security for my son. I can't even tell you how any little bit of financial help would have helped our family. When I did I was told that our house hold income was to high and that we don't qualify for the benefit, . . .oh well so we sucked it up and did what we had to do. It kills me to know that there are people out there who claim that their backs hurt because they weigh 250 lbs and want to do nothing about it. I hate that I have to pay taxes to pay for them to be unemployed. This family that I'm talking about likes to spend a lot of money on alcohol and expensive restaurants. It just makes me steaming mad. :(

This is so frustrating. I've run into a few people like this myself, two of which are trying to take advantage of us personally.
