Undulating Warriors-On your mark, get set go! Jan 4 - Jan 10

Good Morning Warriors

I got up extra early this morning so that I could do my run (CC7, really good music but really long intervals). Then I did Disc 27??? Shoulders, biceps and Tri's. It went really well and have upped my weights since the last time through so that is good!
The run seemed to help my butt DOMS but I am afraid to stop moving! I have to go blow snow (we live out in the country and we could shovel all day and not get the driveway done) so that will set a chill in the muscles so I was thinking of warming up again and then doing the extended stretch. My arms are sore from Boxing too.

Cathy - I hope you get out and your DH didn't hurt his back anymore! I am sure that the party will go well I find that introverts tend to do much better than they let on! As well I am very sorry for the loss of your cat.

Janis - I am having a hard time fitting all the Cathe workouts and running in together. SO I think I will just alternate and see how that goes. I was thinking one week insanity mix with running for cardio and then STS cardio mixed with running for Cardio. We'll see how that goes. I have heard that you shouldn't do more than two plyo's a week too ( my physiotherapist). So that is making the mix more challenging. I am going to fly by the seat of my pants for the next couple weeks and see how it works out. I really want to keep my runs up to at least 3 a week. How often do you do CC? I had better go back and look at your rotation plan.

Tara - Hope your weigh in goes well! If you can believe it my DH came home with a big bag of Mini-eggs for my son's birthday party tomorrow but he already opened the bag. I think that I will have to lay down the law!

MJ - Hope all is going well, have you tried Insanity yet?

Talk to you all soon
Heather

It's Friday already!

Hi Everyone

I meant to post yesterday, the day slipped away somehow. I ran outside yesterday, I haven't tried running outside since my stress fracture, so it was a big deal for me. My ankle is not complaining at all about the change in running surface. Yay!

My butt, however, is a different story. Between Hiit Pyramid, Plyo Wednesday and running hills yesterday, I am hobbling around like a drunken sailor. I don't think I have ever had butt DOMS quite like this! No complaints though, if it lifts and tightens the pancake, then, bring it on! (why more DOMS now and not with previous STSplyo workouts??? was it the hills yesterday?)

This morning I was trying to decide if I was up to doing Cardio Circuits, which is what I had planned, after a quick preview it seemed like there are a lot of plyo like moves, so I did Disc 27 first and afterward I did the warm up and 3 combos of SC-Kickbox, which seemed to help loosen up the DOMS a little. Thank goodness :D.

Heather - my plan is to run every other day...or 7 out of 14 days... so it looks like this: SuTTH Sa MWF. I appreciate your tip about only plyo twice a week. I am going to re-work my calendar based on that, I really want to avoid setting myself up for injury.

Tara - I hope your weigh in goes well! The scale has such a hold on me, it can change my disposition in a matter of seconds. lol! I am glad your chest DOMS are better and you liked MMABoxing. I read your post at Ask Cathe, I appreciate and completely agree with everything you said, and you said it well!

MJ- how are you holding up? Sounds like Florida got a blasted with cold weather, have you been able to play tennis? After all your tennis at camp, did you experience any chest DOMS after Monday's workout...?

Cathy - take it easy on that Achilles! You don't want a set back. Could you make the birthday event a potluck??? Even a dessert based potluck? I'm glad Caitlin was in a stress-free and safe place when she let go. She had a very happy life with you, and felt relief at the end.

Tomorrow I had planned on squat rack legs! We'll see how my DOMS are doing, I might switch that out too.
Time to eat again. :D

Hi Warriors,

The weigh in went well as you can see from my ticker! I'm very happy! :)

Today was HiiT 30/30 and Disc 27--shoulders, bi's & tri's. I was again tired before I began both, but got through them. I did a little better with HiiT--got through all the intervals, but had to take a longer break a couple of times. Disc 27 went well. I did have to lighten my weights on a couple of exercises, but completed all 8 reps for every exercise/set.
I am resting tomorrow and my body is ready for it! ;-)

Cathy, so sorry to hear about your cat. I'm glad that she was at home with you and the rest of your family. Also glad that you got some help with shoveling. :)
I hope time flies by & that your dream will be a reality before you know it!

Heather, congrats on the strength gains! I'm lucky that I don't have a DH to bring home sweets! I'd never eat clean if I did. ;) The cadbury mini-eggs are one of my favorite chocolates to eat. They're hard to resist!

Janis, congrats on running! I'm happy for you. I hope the scale will continue to be nice to me! When I read Cathe's thread and saw the harsh criticism, I just had to post something positive on the other thread. I wish that when people don't like something or have a complaint that they would communicate it in a polite way, instead of verbally attacking.
BTW, how did you like HiiT pyramid? That's the one I'm going to "try" next week. ;)

Have a good Saturday Everyone. I'll post again on Sunday.

Tara

I'm taking my normal rest day today. I'm taking the youngest to baseball and then we head right over to the gym for Nicholas' basketball game. He could have gone to baseball practice for awhile, and I really think he should have because it would help him to loosen up and not get so tense before the game, but DH wanted him to sleep longer and I'm pretty sure convinced him to skip it. Then off to do some shopping and errands.

Janis I hope your butt's a little less sore. I'm sure most people would think it quite bizarre that on some level being crippled makes us happy. ;) I've heard Hiit should be done at least 48 hrs apart and somewhere I think I saw 72 hrs mentioned, too, but I can't remember where.

Heather DH is an extreme introvert and also has this idea that when we have people over the house should look like it's brand new and unlived in. Perfectionism is not a helpful trait in my view. I gave up having parties here for the boys after our oldest turned four, as it was just too stressful for him. Sunday there will only be 4 other people coming my parents and his brother and sister, so hopefully he can deal with less than perfect.

Tara you mentioned the Cadbury eggs. I was in the store last night and of course they had out Valentines stuff, but they also had a small Easter display up already, too. Can't we at least get through Valentines Day before they put all that out? Easter's not until April! Ugh. My brother works for Kohl's and the day after Christmas they were putting all the winter stuff away or on sale and pulling out all the summer stuff. No matter that it's going to be really cold here for another few months.

MJ how are you doing? I've been hearing lots of complaints from people in FL about the cold lately. Are you getting out to play tennis?

Happy Weekend Warriors!

I am happy to say that I stayed on track with the rotation, except for the last arms/shoulders workout which I will catch up on today. The DOMS this week was tolerable, still there of course, but not so I couldnt workout the next day.

Heather - I havent tried Insanity yet. I am thinking about giving one a try this weekend, perhaps tomorrow. I am trying to watch the overall impact from the new rotations as well so I dont do too much too soon. We will see what I end up doing this weekend. Great job on your running btw.

Janis - I love the drunken sailor comment, I get that way quite a bit with all the extra plyo work now. lol Nice job on the running and the plyo, your definitely a warrior! My chest held up just fine, its been a little over a week since tennis camp so my body has recovered well and I can tell I actually gained some strength and power in my legs from all the running around the court when I was there, its a good feeling.

Cathy - I am glad you cat is no longer suffering and you can move on from it now. Perfectionism is highly overrated, I think you should just throw a little extra dust around just for fun when the people come over. lol Hope it goes well. Im very impressed with how you are modifying your workouts while you recover. You will be back to your healed state in no time.

Tara - Congrats on your first weigh in numbers. I am going to be pushing to get my last 25lbs off during this rotation, so I am right there with you along the way.

As for tennis, yes its cold, too cold to go out and play. Plus today its raining, almost sleeting, its insane for it to be like this in south florida. Normally I would enjoy the change, but since I have been in cold throughout my trip and now my first week home its getting a little tiresome. I havent played since the other week when I was at tennis camp, I am having serious tennis withdrawls and I am dying to see if I have retained what I learned at camp. It looks like by Tuesday there may be some break to the freezing like temperatures that I may be able to go out bundled up and try at least hitting the ball. Lets hope so before I completely go through tennis detox. :p

Not much going on this weekend with hiding at home from the cold. Will check back in later. Hope you enjoy your Saturday.

Good Evening Everyone

I just got through a pretty hectic day (DS birthday party X2, hockey and ice making). I decided to take a rest day today as I am pretty tired and really there was no time!

Tomorrow I plan on doing Butts and Guts and hopefully an outside run!

MJ - I am glad that you got all your workouts in. It sounds like your tennis camp increased your endurance and strength! Nice work. Insanity is high impact but not all the time so hopefully it will work for you... but it is insane just the same!

Cathy - Good luck with your party...I am not sure that I could deal with the perfect house/not lived in! Hope you make it to all your events!

Janis - My butt was very sore as well... I am not sure that it was the plyo as I have been doing lots of plyo...I am wondering if it was the double wave? I thought adding Butts and Guts would really help the situation;) I need to get more runs in outside that are steady state instead doing all Cardio coach. As I think that I am over doing them.

Tara - Hope you have a good weekend. Yaay 3lbs!! You go girl!
Talk to you tomorrow

Heather

This morning I did Stretch Max with the band and some abs. I've been clearing off my desk, because I just know that the boys are going to want to show my parents clips from the basketball game yesterday. I needed an excuse for the desk. The rest of the house gets picked up every day, but my desk is my weak point. That's why I have one that has doors that close to hide it. :D

MJ my sister posted this morning from the ice rink at 5:50 a.m. that it was 30 in Tampa. Apparently, just north of there also got a dusting of snow yesterday. But, she also said it's supposed to be back up to 70 soon. Hopefully, you can get back to tennis soon.

Heather it certainly sounds like you did plenty yesterday! Good luck with B&G and your run today.

I'm off to get breakfast and start preparations!

Good Morning Warriors!

My DOMS abated and I was able to run yesterday morning, I was attempting to calibrate the foot pod to my new Polar HRM, so I did a steady state 5k (3.1miles), when I was done I was suppose to stand perfectly still while the foot pod communicated with the watchband. After a few minutes I looked at the watch band and it had re-set itself as if I was going to start the calibration over, not finish the calibration! What? Much later I realized that the foot pod must have turned itself off! After fussing with the techno-syncing-frustrating apparatus I felt recovered enough to do squat rack legs. I am really glad I did. I agree, Tara, there is something about the simplicity and straight forward lifting that I enjoy about squat rack. :):)

This morning I did - get this - Athletic Step. Now, remember, I am uber-step-challenged. I was able to keep up and hang in there with this step routine, the 'ricochet' was the only move that kept messing me up and I would get temporarily behind, other than that I had a great workout, surprisingly sweaty and heart pumping too.

Heather - you have been so athletic plus incredibly busy, yesterday's rest day was well deserved and absolutely in the category of an "active" rest day. I was doing CC intervals for every run before my stress fracture. Now I try to alternate steady state with interval, come February I'll add a tempo run. If there is a 4th run scheduled I'll see how I feel at that point and make it another steady state if I have been doing a lot of plyo or an interval run if I haven't been doing plyo. That's the plan at least. :)
The double wave pyramid just may be what added the extra hobbling DOMS! Did you get B&G in today?

Cathy - How'd the party go? I often break up my cleaning into smaller do-able projects...ala "Fly Lady", do you know about her. It sure keeps the house from imploding. However I do have major vacuuming and mopping to catch up on. Your comment about the stores packing away winter stuff and putting out spring items made me laugh. I remember feeling quite pissed off and manipulated when we lived in Milwaukee and there would be two feet of snow on the ground yet the stores had all of their vacation apparel out - bikini's, shorts, summer tops - and all I really needed or wanted was snow gloves. Of course, there were none to be found.

Tara - Congratulations on your 3 pound weight loss! That's magnificent!!! It would take me six weeks to lose three pounds! YAY you!!! I really enjoyed Hiit Pyramid - it was not intimidating or scary as you build gradually and you know what to expect. I think you'll like it too. Just remember the three hops and turn is the longest one and after that it is all down hill from there! So hang in!

MJ - do you have Wii? I enjoy playing Wii tennis, it does help you stay in the "feel", just swinging the racket around inside the house playing pretend games might work too. I hope you get out there soon. I don't think you'll lose any of your gains, it will come flooding back once you're on the court again. How many plyo workouts are you doing in a week?

Alright Mighty Mighty Warriors...let's rock week two!!!
:D

ETA: Hey, is anyone experiencing tricep DOMS? Mine keep biting at me when I least expect it! LOL!

Hi Everyone!

I thoroughly enjoyed my rest day yesterday. Today, it was back to Step Moves. It's getting easier & easier slowly but surely. :) I did about 10 minutes of plates & weights abs as well. I'm looking forward to Week 2 of our undulating rotation, just trying to get mentally prepared for all the push-ups that Disc 1 will have for me tomorrow! :O

Cathy, I feel I have to hide my house all the time due the lack of orderliness! And cleaniness in the couple of rooms I tend to use as storage for those things I can't figure out what to do with! I too am amazed at how quickly the stores put things out. When I went a couple of days after Christmas, they had the Valentine's stuff out---I'd thought they would wait until at least New Year's! I haven't seen the Easter candy yet. I'm glad! I'm going to have to start working out my resistance plan once the Cadbury eggs show up! ;)

MJ, Here's hoping that the warm weather will return quickly and you'll be able to play tennis. My Mom lives in the Midwest and is experiencing cold that is unheard of for that region. What a winter it is this year!

Heather, The days it is most challenging for me to workout is days when I am extremely busy. I hope your DS's b-day was a nice time for him and for you. :)

Janis, I work up yesterday and my shouder's, bi's & tri's were crazy DOMSing! There were smarting all morning. They feel a lot better today, thankfully. I'm going to tackle Athletic Step this week & am eager to try it. I hope your Polar HRM behaves next time around! ;)

Till Tomorrow Warriors! I'm planning to workout out in the morning before work. We'll see how it goes!

Tara

Wow that switch from doing Meso 3 (in Dec. and last week) was a pretty big adjustment mental and physical. Back to the quick changes - which I'm slow at right now - and all those push-ups. I am of course, very, very sad that I had to do them all on my knees. :D :D I was able to adapt everything and kept up once I had all my equipment adjusted.

Janis I actually have an index card system for cleaning that I got from the "Side-tracked Home Executive" which is one of systems the Fly Lady used to base hers on. Hers just didn't flow as well for me. That said, I haven't actually used it for awhile, but I do have a basic routine that gets things picked up, wiped down and floor swept every day to keep the worst of it at bay. Oh, and of course yesterday morning DH got all bent out of shape about the shape of the house. His main focus was the burners on the stove. Yep the burners on the stove. Told him they weren't on my agenda for the day, so he actually cleaned them himself. And of course, no one actually went into the kitchen to see that he had cleaned them.

Janis YAY on getting Athletic Step! I've heard that one is really intense.

Tara so glad to hear that you are getting Step Moves, it gives me hope. :D Big congrats on the weight loss!! I think other areas of the midwest are actually getting his harder than we have. And the last two days were sunny which always helps. Cold and sunny is SO much more tolerable.

I have my appt with the doctor today, so I'll find out how I'm doing. I feel like I'm doing really well, so we'll see if he agrees.

Good Morning Everyone
Yesterday turned into crazy hockey tournement day so I never did get to do Butts and Guts but I am okay with that as I have been extremely tired lately. My goal this week is to do all my workouts but eat really well and eat enough! I think that I am not eating enough and what I do eat is not clean enough.
This morning I did Disc 1 and I am already feeling it in my shoulders. I have to say that I really like switching it up with Meso 3. I was getting bored of doing the same exercises each week with Meso 3 (although I do see the value of it). I am going to do some cardio today but I am not sure just what yet... either Insanity or a run I think.

Janis - Glad you like Athletic Step, I have to say that I found some of the choreography a little hard in it - only certain moves though. It might have been just a bad morning. I think I have to only allow myself to do CC once a week and put in my SS runs to add more cardio. CC runs are just so much more fun! You don't seem to be having any luck with your gadgets!!! That is so frustrating after getting through your run and not getting to the info your are looking for. Thanks for the running tips!

Cathy - I tried to follow Fly Lady and ended up getting ticked at her because she was telling me what to do... I don't do well with that. Weird. Anyways, my house is a disaster after the birthday parties and being gone all day at the tournament. Oh well. Can't sweat the small stuff!

Tara - Sounds like you had a good weekend and glad to hear that Step Moves is working for you!

MJ - Hope things warm up for you... I do have to say that it is hard to have sympathy when I'm are sitting here in snow banks! Hope that you managed to get all your workouts you planned in this weekend!
Talk to you all soon
Heather

Back from the doctor! I can ditch the wrap and he wants me to start doing a lot of flex type stretching with my foot - up and down. Next week I get to add more intense calf stretches and calf raises. I asked him how long it would be until I could jump on and off a 10" platform and he said 4-6 weeks. Yay! Oh, and he told me to walk normally. ;) Cause I've gotten in the habit of limping.

Heather it didn't used to bother me when the house was a mess, but after I had my second I just couldn't stand it anymore. Weird, but true. So, now I have to do all the basic cleaning every day, though sometimes I just ignore the boys room for short periods and then make them clean it up. The main part of the house stays pretty well picked up. I find that my mood tends to dive for every dirty dish added to the sink or counter and that is my biggest dislike.

Have fun with your cardio today!

!

Good Morning Warriors!

Well - that kicked my butt! I went into it thinkin', "piece of cake" and came out of it feeling like I got the workout of my life. Wow - switching it up is just the challenge I need!

Before Meso1 disc 1, I ran on the TM for 40 minutes to CCv4, a 4.1 mile interval run. It felt great.

Cathy - Congrats on your positive medical report! YAY! The right kind of encouragement and feedback can really make a difference when healing from an injury. I'll have to check out the "Side-Tracked Home Executive" method, it sounds just like me!

Heather - My biceps are feeling it! I did manage to stay with 95% of the push ups, but was at a much slower pace than Cathe. I sometimes listen to CC while running, but just run a steady state. One of these days I'll work on a better play list and insert Sean's encouraging words. Morningstar gave me a bunch of pre-mixes she made for HiiT, when I get fully up to speed I want to try those also. BTW, I am struggling with my diet too. I know what I need to eat, and when, but despite my best efforts I keep sabotaging myself. I need to stay consistent. For me, there seems to be a very slim margin for error - then I gain and it seems to want to stay.

Tara- Way to go with Step Moves, I don't know if I will ever be ready for that one! Did you do your workout this morning, as planned? Cadbury Eggs don't do much for me, I know you guys are wondering what planet I am from, I do LOVE strawberries dipped in chocolate though - and I love marizpan. Right now I need to break the gobbling chocolate chips right out of the bag while standing in the pantry habit. I don't even like them!!!

MJ - Are you a tennis popsicle? It appears we forgot to start a new thread this morning. Maybe we're hoping those push ups were just a dream, and the week hasn't started yet. :p

Lower weights and higher reps wiped this warrior all over the mat.
Now I need to be a good mother and buy some groceries, our cupboards are looking a little bare.

:D
