Im so mad now! I left the house to run out for a sec and one of my friends dropped something off and when she left she didn't shut the porch door. And I caught Charlie right in the act of chewing up my long black boots! The heel is all chewed up and aren't fit to wear.It was the only pair of nice boots I had that he didn't get is teeth around.
I don't know who I am mad at more.My friend or the dog!
Just HAD to vent.Looking forward to making cookies and turng on some christmas music but now I just want to sit and cry.;(
Lori

Oooh, Lori! I feel your pain! I'm sooo sorry!!! Every pair of sandals I had from when Tucker was young were chewed. He even got a friend's pair of ski boots (not the cheap kind, mind you - $600 Soloman boots!!!). He's 3 now and has stopped chewing, so there's hope. (Although he did chew up a letter from my dh's ex wife the other day, which was kind of ironic).

Uh, I know, its just so fustrating. We have been fortunate enough that he hasn't chewed up any furniture b/c I thought for sure his teeth marks were going to be around the legs of the coffee table.
I need a new pair of black boots now and I can't afford to spend money on myself before christmas.I still have gifts to buy.

My dog used to get very angry when my BF went away for an extended period. One time I came home to find EVERY SHOE I HAD in a pile on the dining room floor. She hit at least one shoe in very pair. How nice of her x(

YOu must have been so mad. I wonder if that is what he is going through b/c I will take him for a drive sometimes when I take DD to school. But if I run out for longer, like grocery shopping I don't take him.And when I come back there is usually something chewed to pieces, like tolit paper, or a christmas ornament. We try to keep as many things as we can away from him but there is only so much and he is bound to find something.Either way he managed to ruin an expensive pair of boots in minutes.

Okay, Ladies. In the poochies defense, it's up to us to put our things where we can't get at them. We're supposed to be a bit smarter than they are :) .

I learned the hard way.

Lori,

Sorry to hear that. Stinky, our bulldog has done a number of things that are similiar. She is like a beaver...think she was in another life time. She loves to chew up the furniture. One day I came home and the ends of our heirloom rocking chair was chewed on really bad on both sides and then the middle back. She also chewed a decorative piece off the cocktail table and corner of dresser. I buy them all chew bones so there is no excuse for that behavior. Lately, she has been better, maybe because she is getting older so if I am gone for more than 1 hour, I put her in her kennel because I cannot trust her. BTW, I used shoe polish in same color to color over the furniture in which she chewed.

If it's mostly the heel, maybe you can take it to a shoe repair store and have the heels replaced and some bite marks taken care of.

Exactly! If they will get into something, put up a gate, or put them in a crate or x-pen or outside if the weather is permitting.

Sorry to hear about your boots Lori! What a bummer. I know how you feel, as I have a dog who chews too. We have to keep everything away from her. If we leave we have to kennel her because she will chew anything she can get. And she's four years old! Our other dog has never chewed (well, we didn't get her until she was a year old, but she didn't chew then). We had one dog who would actually chew holes in the walls! He would start by licking and then off he'd go. If we left him outside when we were home to enjoy the sun (he loved sunbathing) and we didn't check on him, he'd chew the siding on our house. He also chewed a footboard on a bed and a dresser. But we loved him nonetheless and just made sure to keep an eye on him or else we figured it was our fault. In this case I know you wouldn't have left your boots out had you known your friend would leave the door open. Unfortunately we can't blame the dogs either, as I think certain dogs have certain instincts because they're dogs. After all, we have domesticated these creatures. :) So just tell your friend that you would LOVE a new pair of boots for Christmas!

My beagle has eaten 2 couches, I totally understand. I bought a large crate to put him in when I go away. I leave toys in it for him to chew while I'm gone.

Candi and Collen,
Sometimes I wonder if people read exactly what I write.I had the porch door shut when I left the house...my friend left it open.So it wasn't My fault. And this is in my defense.
Lori

I think I would have to get the heel replaced b/c most of the chewing is on the bottom of the heel, where I step..so I'd laid #### up:)
We have an older dog as well and he never touched anything. But we got him when he was 8 m old from the shelter so maybe he never had anything around to chew on so therefore...he never chewed.
Lori:)

Take the boots to a good cobbler - if it's just the heel, that is SO easy to fix. I just had a pair of shoes totally reheeled - changed from a chunky heel to a slender heel. They take off the old one and put on a new one. I've had shoes rip and they were able to be repaired, as well. Take them the cobbler - he'll fix them. Then - don't leave them lying out where the dog can get at them, in the first place. The secret to making shoes last is to put them away, right away.

I think this friend should be banned from coming near your house when you are not home ;) UGH. Sorry that happened. Just wondering though, why do you keep your good boots on the porch? Are these fancy boots or something? Wouldn't they go in your clothes closet?

I wish.My house is not very big so the only closets I have is in my room. I took them off when I worked Wed and whenever we leave the house we keep the dogs out of the porch. But he got out there, didn't he!? And it happened so fast.I was only gone a few minutes. There are times he has gotten at my shoes and it has been totally my fault.I will take full blame, but when you think you have yourself covered and something still happens, just makes you want to cry.
Thanks,
Lori:)

ahhhh damn, Lori. That friend is BANNED from touching your house with no one around.

Sorry you took offense. I was replying to the part you said you didn't know who you were more mad at the dog or your friend. The dog really doesn't know better.

Colleen

Colleen,
Thats o.k.I didn't mean to make you feel bad. I know he doesn't know better but sometimes I wonder. When you open the door and he takes off...he knows something is up. Oh well...new boots on my christmas list.
Lori:)

hahahaha! I can't keep her out! Sometimes I wish I could...hahaha Shes one of those people who are very vocal and voices her opnion but when you defend yourself she thinks your contray! I just sit and take it now:) You learn to love her.I may ask her if the door was closed when she came in.It won't make any difference and I don't want to make her feel bad.But I don't want it to happen again either.
Lori:)
