Ugh...

I am bummed! I am 32 weeks along and up until now have done great with my workouts. But, last week I only got 3 sessions in and this week is not good and it is only Monday!

By the time I get home from work (I am a banking manager...at my desk a lot but up and down too, nothing physically strenuous)I am tired, my belly it tight and heavy and I just can't do it. I have tried, but my round ligaments get so sore I have to stop. I think if I worked out in the morning, I would be fresher and much less tired, but that is my time with my son before school and my husband gets home then (he works nights.) But...I think I will have to do this to keep going.

Anyone else have this happen? Did a different time of day help? I can't believe how my body is just done by 6 pm right now. Is three days per week (one weight, two cardio) going to be enough at this big weight gain time? Your stories and input (and advice..) is always appreciated. Thanks!

Becky

Becky,

I am sorry to hear that you are feeling too tired and distresed (the physical distress of sore ligaments, havy belly) and can't work out so much. I am not as far along as you to have a similar situation, but I know I would be really upset if I couldn't work out as much as I'd like.

I was going to suggest the morning, but I can see why it is important to be with your son and husband then

Since we are only supposed to *maintain* fitness during pregnancy I should think 3 times is enough. If I could only do 3 sessions, I might be tempted to do something like this: Day 1: chest, shoulders, tris, a little cardio. Day 2. Back, biceps, a little cardio. Day 3. Legs. I would hit each muscle group as hard as you SAFELY can.

I would focus on muscle, not cardio. I think your muscle will help burn more calories in the long run than what you can burn during an individual cardio session during pregancy. But, I am always biased towards weight work and think cardio is somewhat overrated. I tend to think that at least half of our time should go to weights.

On a totally different note, perhaps it is just best to enjoy your family before the new baby comes and listen to your body when it says "No!".

Best wishes, Gina

Hi Becky,

I'm sorry to hear you are feeling so tired. I'm about 2 weeks behind you (approaching 30 weeks), and that tiredness and sore-ligament thing is just starting to creep in for me too, so I sympathise! I am lucky, in that I have now cut my hours to part time (one of the perks of being self-employed!) and only work mornings, so I usually get my workouts in in the afternoon. Not that this helps you any, as you are still working full-time!

I have to agree with Gina, in that I think keeping up the weights work (within your own comfort zone) is probably more beneficial at this stage than forcing yourself through cardio, which requires faster movements and more co-ordination (both of which, if you are anything like me, you are losing the ability to do on a daily basis, LOL!). Maybe you could try an evening walk for your cardio, or even swimming, which would raise your heart-rate and the water would support your weight.

I think 3 workouts a week at this stage is great - as Cathe keeps telling us, pregnancy is not a time to push yourself beyond what your body is comfortable with - maintenance is the key at this time. Mind you, give me a few more weeks and I'll probably be posting back to you with the same frustrations, LOL!

Take care!

Kaz.

I would not be too hard on yourself. You body is going through so much. I always seemed to slow down at the end of pregnancy. I would just do as much as you can handle right now and don't feel too guilty.

I think I just needed some support from others like myself! I appreciate it. I do feel more comfortable with weights now and have not had to give up too much in the poundage thus far. I am more of a weight fan than a cardio and have been more comfortable with that. Thanks for the help and advice....looking forward tot he next 8 weeks!

(I did work out this morning and it felt good. Got up extra early and still spent some time with my son and hubby so this may help....)
