Ugh, food hangover

Yesterday was my Mom's birthday as well as Mother's Day. She really likes white cake with white frosting so we had cake after dinner. Today I have a food hangover from all of the sugar.

The thing that gets me is if you ask me before I eat the cake if I will get a hangover I will tell you yes, but...that doesn't prompt me to have a smaller piece or skip the cake all together. Now I think that perfectly fits the definition of insanity.

I am eating clean food today so I feel better tomorrow.

I feel you!! My mom special-requested that I bake this orange & vanilla cake that I absolutely love, but it is packed with sugar. We never have it so of course I had that mentality in my head and had a ginormous piece...NOT a good idea! I've cut out sugar and artificial sweeteners for the past month, so after eating all of that sugar in 1 sitting, I feel like I have a bag of rocks in my stomach and I'm so groggy. It's scary that before, I never thought twice about tossing huge amounts of sugar down my gourd; now I can actually feel how lousy it is for my body!

Ugh!!!! Me too. I think it was the sweet, sweet punch - but it sure was yum. And the strawberry pie - I ate a 2nd piece when I got home. STUPID!!! But it was yum!!! I was soooooo tired last night. I went to bed at 8:15 last night. Still dragging a bit. I brought fruit for snacks at work and a Kashi black bean mango frozen box for lunch. I have disc 13 tonight. After all that, I should feel better tonight or tomorrow.

Too true! I call it my "sugar hangover." I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one. You know you'll feel awful afterward, but sometimes the consequences are worth an occasional indulgence.

The only thing that kept me straight yesterday was that I'm running a race this Saturday and need to keep my immunity up (my kids and husband have a cold, and I'm trying desperately not to get it). I was glad for the extra reason to stay on track.

Not the only one! WE had breakfast after 8:00 Mass (Episcopal church) in which I bribe kids they could go to Cracker Barrell after service. Yep I did have the pancakes w/syrup! Then ice cream and cake. But dinner was pretty healty...but stilllllll LOL

I am right there with ya! Feels like a couple days of bad choices undoes months of hard work. Must. Eat. Clean!

I'm with ya too. We had hot fudge sundaes this weekend. And Monday. And last night. Today I have a headache, am sluggish and oh.so.tired. And I KNOW better!!! DH's bday is this weekend, AND we're celebrating Mother's Day with my mom. I'm baking cupcakes. I have a feeling I'm going to fall off the wagon again. Ugh!! You'd think I'd learn by now!!

Okay, this sounds counter-intuitive, because it'll mean even more calories, but when I eat something with a lot of simple carbs, I also eat something that's high in healthy fats and/or high protein, to lower the glycemic impact on me and have it hit me less hard. An excellent choice is Mystery Butter 2 by Nuts to You, which is peanut butter and hazelnut butter combined- healthy fats and lots of protein. I really find that sugars on their own are brutal for me and hit my reactive hypoglycemia, crashing my blood sugar and actually causing something like an insulin reaction. I'd rather have the extra calories and feel better - it's healthier for the body too, to not have my blood sugar going sky high then crashing.
