Not sure how long the race is but they are televising the Tunnel to Towers race that's going on this morning. It's to honor a fallen fire fighter who died on 9/11. He ran in full gear from the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel to the towers to help. He was not on duty that day but when he got the call he went to his firehouse, got dressed and started driving towards the site. The cops stopped him at the tunnel-he wasn't allowed to bring his car any further-so he got out and proceeded to RUN to the towers with 80 pounds of gear on his back in order to help. What an inspiration!!!!

This still makes me cry a little, I'm so happy they continue to have reminders like this to honor those who put everyone's lives and safety before their own.

Wow, I just read the bio on the Tunnel to Towers site. It says he went looking for his battalion and that the whole battalion perished. So so tragic. It is an amazing tribute to them to participate in the race. May we never forget the heroes of that day.

The run is longer than the firefighter actually ran. According to the site the race starts at the Guwanus & finishes at the WTC--approximately 5k. The firefighter ran about 2 miles. You know, even if he only ran 2 block, running with 80lbs of gear in the heat of that morning (yes, it was a warm morning some of us will never forget) is pretty damn impressive.

We need to never forget.
