Tuesday morning chuckle

Got this from my sister and had to chuckle - thought I'd share.

THE SPOILED UNDER-30 CROWD!

If you are 30 or older you will think this is hilarious!

When I was a kid, adults used to bore me to tears
With their tedious rantings about how hard things
Were when they were growing up;
What with walking twenty-five miles to school every morning ...
Uphill BOTH ways.. YADDA, YADDA, YADDA

And I remember promising myself that when I grew up,
There was no way in hell I was going to lay a bunch of crap
Like that on kids about how hard I had it and how easy they've got it!

But now that...
I'm over the ripe old age of thirty;
I can't help but look around and notice the y outh of today.
You've got it so easy!

I mean, compared to my childhood, you live in a damn Utopia!

And I hate to say it but you kids today
YOU DON'T KNOW HOW GOOD YOU'VE GOT IT!

I mean, when I was a kid we didn't have The Internet.
If we wanted to know something, We had to go to the library and look it up
ourselves,
IN THE CARD CATA LOG!!

There was NO email!!
We had to actually write somebody a letter ... WITH A PEN
Then you had to walk all the way across the street
And put it in the mailbox and it would take like a week to get there!

There were NO MP3's & NO Napsters!
You wanted to steal music,
You had to hitchhike to the record store and shoplift it yourself!

Or you had to wait around all day to tape it off the radio
And the DJ'd usually talk over the beginning and screw it all up!

We DIDN'T have fancy crap like Call Waiting!
If you were on the phone and somebody else called
They got a busy signal, that's it!
And we didn't have fancy Caller ID Boxes either!

When the phone rang, you had no idea who it was!
It could be your school, your mom, your boss, your bookie,
Your drug dealer, a collections agent, you just didn't know!
You had to pick it up and take your chances, mister!

We didn't have any fancy Sony Plays tation video games
With high-resolution 3-D gra phics!
We had the Atari 2600!
With games like 'Space Invaders' and 'Asteroids' and the graphicssucked!
Your guy was a little square!
You actually had to use your imagination!
And there were no multiple levels or screens;
It was just one screen forever! And you could never win.
The game just kept getting
Harder and harder and faster and faster
Until you died! Just like LIFE!

When you went to the movie theater
There no such thing as stadium seating!
All the seats were the same height!
If a tall guy or some old broad with a hat sat in front of you
And you couldn't see, YOU WERE JUST SCREWED!

Sure, we had cable television,
But back then that was only like 15 channels
And there was no onscreen menu and no remote control!
You had to use a little book called a TV Guide
To find out what was on!
You were screwed when it came to channel surfing!
You had to get off your behind and walk over to the TV
To change the channel and
There was no Cartoon Network either!
You could only get cartoons on Saturday Morning.

DO YOU HEAR WHAT I'M SAYING
We HAD to wait ALL WEEK for cartoons,
YOU SPOILED LITTLE BRATS!

AND...
We DIDN'T have microwaves,
If we wanted to heat something up
We had to use the stove or go build a freakin' fire ...
IMAGINE THAT!
If we wanted popcorn,
We had to use that stupid Jiffy Pop thing and shake it over the stove forever
LIKE AN IDIOT!

That's exactly what I'm talking about!
You kids today have got it too easy.
YOU'RE SPOILED!!!!!!!!!

You KIDS WOULD NEVER have lasted five minutes back in 1980's!

God, this is so true! I graduated from college in 1985 and we didn't have laptops, cds(!), Starbucks, Chipotle's and the only hair highlighting product I knew was "Sun In." No big screen tvs, minivans or suvs. Heck, we didn't even have answering machines. If no one was home, you were screwed--no one knew you called and you'd never even know if you missed a call from some cute guy. It really was the dark ages now that I think about it...

ETA- I think I paid around $.50 cents a gallon for gas though.

Chocolate IS the answer, regardless of the question.

I was talking to my DD the other day, telling her that when I was little, if you didn't see a movie at the theatre, that was it. It might come out on TV two years later and be chock full of commercials. There were no VCRs, no DVD players. No computers, no Internet. She said "What on earth did you DO?".:p

LOL! You just reminded me of one of my favorite scenes from "That 70's Show"

Kelso: So! Jackie. You wanna go see Star Wars tonight?
Jackie: God, Michael, I told you. I don't like space.
Kelso: Jackie, if we're gonna start our relationship over, you gotta meet me halfway, honey!
Jackie: Well, maybe I wanna do something else tonight.
Kelso: Like what?
<He stares at her until realization sinks in>
Kelso: God, Jackie! We can do that for the rest of our lives! Star Wars is a limited engagement!

:D :D :D :7
I remember being excited to get a calculator when I was a college freshman. It was so high tech, it did SQUARE ROOTS. And it cost $150 and was bigger that today's cell phone or IPod.

We were so cool because my mom got one of the very first releases of PONG! Remember that little gem? Two paddles that moved up and down only (no sideways motion) and the little ball that bounced between your paddle and your opponents.

Robin - I was so jealous of my friend who had the calculator with letters on it and could actually save text.

And my other friend has one of those typewriters that could actually correct mistakes - I had to use white out and never could get the paper realigned properly. Term papers in collage were pure torture - research at the library AND then taking the next three nights to type the dratted thing out!

When I was in Grade 3 or 4, one of the guys in my class came from a family who owned a TV/stereo store. His dad went on a trip to Japan and came home with a DIGITAL WATCH!!!! It was enormous but man, was he COOL with that thing on:p

ah yes saturday morning the only morning mom and dad didn't have to fight to wake us up,if anything they wanted our butts back in bed LOL. remember playing OUTSIDE!!!! *gasps* no video games,computers,400 channels etc. we had to engage in sportsmanship activities for entertainment, SOCIALIZE and communicate via our mouths and not cell phones, texting, messagening!! don't get me wrong i love my internet b/c how else would i learned about cathe, but young'ins today are consumed with it!

And the Christmas shows! You could ONLY see them in December and IF you caught the right day (in the ole TV Guide).

I'm so old, I remember only 4 tv channels! And no cordless phones! Only rotary dial phones with long loopy cords. No multi-tasking while on the phone!

Kids these days are so spoiled. They don't know how good they have it.

Oh yeah, Kassia, for certain! When I was a kid I used to actually play OUTSIDE all the time.

We had to come home when the street lights came on. I can't imagine letting my kids roam free in this day and age.

Wow!
