Good morning everyone

Still somewhat tired today, but managed to do this:
BC abs
Viper

Serious multi tasking this morning, while working out the dinner was cooking on the stove, the laundry was getting done, plus I was listening to the Senate hearing.

Enjoy the day!

Mari

Hi Mari....no wonder you are tired, those Senate hearings will do that EVERY time!..:7 ...sounds like you had a good workout. I did CTX chest, back and abs. Then Imax2 Blastmania. Leaner Legs this afternoon.(Yes Annette a glutton!) Do you have Stepblast,Mari? I did a short HIIT with it doing the 3rd segment and then the blasts on Saturday. Have a great day girls!...:)...Carole

Hello everyone, here I am again:) :) Not yet my old self, but feeling much better.

I ran 2-4-6-8-10-12-6-3minutes with 1-minute walk breaks, ending with an easy walk that took me right to my back door. And I covered a little over 8K in the process in less than 58minutes. Never ran 8K before:) I feel great.

Odd thing though, my HRM showed a 170bpm on average for the whole distance (except when walking), but I wasn't out of breath and it didn't feel like I was pushing myself at all. Something wrong with my HRM?

Better late than never, this morning I did PS Back, Biceps and Abs then took the boys on a field trip to an old 17th century house. So we walked alot while we got the tour. I am home now but we had a great day!! Learned alot about early American History.

Have a great day!!:D

I am still getting over this cold, so I thought I would do a shorter cardio. I did Reebok Aerostep w/Gin Miller. Anyone remember that one? I haven't done this one in about 2 years. My cardio went pretty well and I really kicked that vid up a couple intensity levels. Still an oldie but a goodie. I also did C&W arm segments.

Fab, I do like Gin Miller a lot, but I only have Simply Strong from her. Carole, no, I don't have Step Blast. I try to keep the impact to the minimum...:(

I'm sorry Mari...I forgot your hip....:(...but like we both say, the Nordic is one of the best no impact workouts around!!! And you would kill me in the weight lifting dept....:)...Dutchie, I think your HR monitor is probably fine, but what is your Max Heart Rate?...Carole

Hi Carole,

Have your legs recovered from your 1/2 marathon?

I saw a sports physician (don't know what you call him, he's an MD specialised in sports and sports injuries) who did some tests. He said my max HR was 190, which was a little above average for a 42 yo woman. But so was everything else according to him: lung capcity, VO2, body fat%, muscle tone and muscle length and normal heart ECG, don't remember what else was tested.

He said my aerobic zone was 135-165
anaerobic zone was 165-180
red line zone was 180-190

So I have set my HRM zone to 135-165.

Yes my legs were recovering fine, until last Sunday when a group of local runners got together for a 14 mile fun run....8 miles up and 6 miles down! I never had my max figured by a sports physician, but did some testing on my own and got to 183 for my max. I'm 45. So 170 wasn't really a bad average for your run the other day. I read a few HR books by Sally Edwards and I go by zones as she describes in her books. Zone 5 (red line) 165-183, Zone 4 (anaerobic) 146-165 Zone 3 128-146. I spend most of my runs in the 3rd and 4th zone unless I am doing speed or interval training then I creep into the 5th zone....:)...Carole

Isn't your anaerobic zone when you are going out of breath when working out? And your red line zone is when you are gasping for air? That's how it was explained to me.

But if I look at your zones, I don't feel like I am working out when my HR is below 155, I feel like I'm having a nice comfortable work out with HR between 150-165. And I feel like I have to work, but still can have a conversation when I'm between 165-173 (apparently), and start to get out of breath when I go over 173 to 180 (intervals 5, 8 and 9 of Imax2), and really out of breath over 180. I always try to stay somewehere between 155-165. But I was recently told not to always use the HRM as a coach.

Dutchie :)

Yes, you are a bit out of breath in your anerobic zone...One rule in the book is not to train in your redline zone 2 days in a row. I do most of my recovery runs in the 3rd zone only, until I go uphill! I also believe my HR zones are lower when doing step and the Nordic Track machine (Sally explains this in her book). The highest I ever have gone in Imax2 is 160 and 164 on the Nordic. Probably just not the same sort of impact...I do rely on my HRM alot it seems...:)...Carole

Elevated heart rate can be caused by many reasons. One of them is being overtrained.... Also, the weather here got very warm -- hr is up by quite a few beats.
I noticed in the past that after a hard race my hr stayed elevated for some time, but I didn't really "felt it" that high -- like in your case.
Stay hydated eat well and don't jump back to heavy training so quickly.
