TTC/Preggers Check-in Week of March 16

hey everyone

well, hopefully i will feel better soon - have a nasty sinus infection on top of the flu. i finally slept last night and missed my workout this am. probably not a bad thing b/c i did a 10miler and gs legs yesterday. i am hoping to squeeze something in later.

anne, i am so glad they saw the fetal pole. did they do more bloodwork?

lisa, hope they do an us for you tomorrow.

kate, so glad you are having some good days. hope they continue.

that is it for me for now. i have my 26 or 27 week check up today. hoping they don't get mad about my weight gain. oh well. today, i don't much care about any of it, other than getting rid of this sinus pain.

Morris! Take a rest day, woman! Sinus infection + flu = no workout for me.

I am feeling pretty good today - thank goodness! 2 good days in a row! Just eating like a sumo wrestler and it keeps it away. I feel like a big fatty. My belly looks huge and bloated. Hoping to work off some of these carbs once 2nd tri. hits.

Everybody else doing okay? Sending healthy mom & baby vibes to you all!~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Hi everyone--I had some sort of stomach virus, so I was up all night puking. I feel better today, but raw and shaky, so no workout. I'll double up tomorrow.

Morris--Amy is an up and coming favorite for me. I preordered both of her new ones too. I'm especially looking forward to the hi intensity/low impact kick box one, because my poor body needs more stuff like that. I hope your sinus pain is relieved quickly. That sucks.

Kate--don't feel bad about the weight gain. I've gained 25 lbs and I'm only 18 weeks. The good news is that it has slowed from 2-3lbs per week to 1 lb per week. If I only gain 20 more lbs, that will be really good for me, who normally gains 65-70. Besides, you probably don't look as "fat" as you think.

Anne--good news about the fetal pole. Just hang in there. I'll keep praying for you.

Lisa--this time nausea has lingered longer than any other pregnancy. It's faint, but there. It's not debilitating, just a constant annoyance, so I really shouldn't complain, it's just usually by this time, I'm feeling pretty normal sickness-wise. About STS--I will need 35, 40, and 45 lb dumbells and some of those pace weight magnets. I'd love slanted risers and a new stability ball (the kids keep ruining them), but I can modify without those things. We do have a squat rack with a pull up bar in the garage--now I just have to figure out how to get Cathe out there--portable dvd player maybe. Ugh--it's adding up and money is a little tight, but I'm really excited about STS.

Jen--sorry to hear you are still feeling sick. My son pinched a nerve during a wrestling match and his arm was numb for about 24 hours. Of course I had to google it and learn all sorts of scary things about pinched nerves--like how they can plague a person for a really long time, but that does not appear to be the case with you and it wasn't for my son.

Hi Melanie, Hi Kristan, Hi Autumn!

Maggie
18 weeks, 2 days

Hi! I felt better today (just a slight headache with some nausea that comes and goes...it's coming now;( ). I didn't exercise today either due to the nausea that hit after work. I am going to go to bed early in the hopes of waking up nausea-free tomorrow and working out. I didn't have that tingly feeling anymore, so it had to be a pinched nerve.

I really am leaning towards ordering some Amy Bentos as well. Someone here had also discussed a good pregnancy workout video done by someone who is a trapeze artist (or something like that)??? I would like to try that because I am getting leary of ab exercises. I did some the other night, and they didn't feel good so I stopped. That is a gray area for me (working abs when pregnant).

What is everyone doing for Easter? We are traveling to see our families on Sat-Sun.

I have work tomorrow due to all the snow days we have to make up, otherwise, I would have been off Wed-next Tues:( .
-Jen

Maggie, Thanks for the encouragement on the ###. I need it. I put my favorite hot pink sweatshirt on tonight and let's just say it was snug in the waist. Ugh. *the baby* is growing, right?! Sorry about your stomach bug! It's bad enough to puke because of pg, worse to puke from a bug.

Jen, Hope you get feeling better. I just got the "trapeze" workout in the mail today. I'm hoping to check it out tomorrow and I'll let you know. We actaully have another funeral this weekend, and on Sunday we're going to visit Mike's grandpa (he lives about 2 hours away) because he's probably going to die soon (wicked, fast cancer). So, DDs won't have much in terms of egg hunts, etc but I don't think they really mind. I'll just get 'em an XL choc. bunny and they could care less what else we do!:)

I've done not too shabby today. I'm feelin' kinds icky right now but its 11 and time to feed me! But I'm hopefully going to bed soon.

See ya in the morning!

kate, sounds like you are over the hump. it is so much easier when you just stop putting on regular clothes at all, isn't it? i too am anxious to hear about that trapeze workout. please let me know what you think.

maggie, hope your bug is gone. puking sucks, for sure. i forgot about all those new dumbells i's need. are you getting pairs of them or singles? i cannot imagine doing a chest pres with 2 40lb dumbells. i did gym style chest and tris yesterday and struggled with 20's on the presses.

jen, glad the nerve is better. you may find ab work feels different in a few days. i find the baby can change and move, then things feel different. i definately am an amy fan. i have all her new step and hi los and kb. i don't ccare for her older stufff (pre extreme series).

well, i did end up working out this am. did amy's asc2 and blast only from step blast. i feel so much better, i am happy! long day at work, but i will bbl

Morris, Today is a pretty good day too! I am so excited that I am starting to feel better. Hopefully I can clean up my eating and get back to exercising. I'm thinking about a fun low-impact circuit tonight. Are you doing your chest work on an incline now? I forget if its at 12 or 16 weeks that you're supposed to do that..... I do have ASC1 but I've only tried it once. I need to get my head into it more. I did like what I could muster up though. Hope work is good to you today.

We have a busy day for sure, but when is it NOT busy anymore??? Thursdays I do payroll, and the way DH has been hiring lately its taking longer and longer. DDs love payroll day - we take lunch to DH and all eat together and they play with their "office toys". I used to feel guilty working while they were awake but when we're at the main office (no more than 2 afternoons a week) they absolutely love it and are bummed when we leave. I am pretty lucky - remind me of this next time I start complaining!

Kate/Morris- is ASC1 the DVD with a bazillion straddle taps? I know I've done it, but cannot remember it. I may request it from Netflix again.

Speaking of Netflix, I have Bento Hi/Lo Extreme on the way and also Prenatal Pilates (with Lizbeth Garcia, who my husband finds totally 'hot'- you may recall he also has a thing for Janis Saffell.)

I have been burning up the internet with purchases- I bought a new stroller, the Joovy Caboose Ultralight and new bedding for Gus' big boy bed. Also ordered new bedroom furniture for the girls. My credit card statement will be painful!

My husband really wants a Quinny Zapp stroller in orange ($200), but it doesn't seem reasonable. There is a cute new stroller called the Mia Moda facile: http://www.target.com/MiaModa-Facil...-4052895-7163063?ie=UTF8&rh=k:mia_moda&page=1

It's orange but not nearly as sleek as the Quinny.

As long as I'm buying, what do you guys think Of Supersets/Push Pull and GS legs? I've done supersets on FitTv and I liked the "cardio" factor in it. I did our summary for last year's budget. I spent $200 on work out DVD's, while my husband spent $1300 on video game purchases. I think it's time I buy something. (in all fairness, husband's video games are work related and tax deductible, but still...)

Have a great Easter. I am going to try to go to mass tonight and we'll go again on Easter.

kristan, yes, asc1 has a zillion straddle taps. you will love hi lo xtreme. as for gs legs, i did that on tuesday and it is awsome. by far her hardest leg workout. i do thingk it is a bit lengthy, but what can you do? i am trying to decide what double jogger to get. also planning to buy an ergo carrier. they look great, and i loved backpacking with finn. i had my doc appoitment yesterday and i now have to go every 2 weeks. it is a bit soon, but last pregnancy i started measuring small around this time, so they just want to check. also, have to do glucose test in 2 weeks. yuck!

re strollers: I spent a lot of time at strollerqueen.com and bought her 2008 roll out guide for help picking out new strollers. Ours are all trashed.

I've always been under the impression that the big wheeled baby jogger is the best for actual running. If you're more of a neighborhood walker/slow jogger like me, consider the baby jogger city series, the mountain buggies, and the BOB duallie. We have a double BJ city and it's great in the neighborhood, but really hard to run with. On the other hand, the big wheeled baby joggers are almost impossible to put in a car.

kristan, that is really my dilema - i know i'd want a big wheeled one, but where we live now, i have to get in my car to run or i'd be going down a major road. i think i will check out that website, also wait a bit as we may have to move in about 15 months.

Kristan, Your Visa is on fire!!! What does DH do that he gets to play video games?! Too cool!

Morris, I DETEST the glucose test. I take a glass if ice to pour it into - helps it go down faster. Hope your measurements stay good.

I am feeling pretty darn good for the 3rd day in a row. I'm really hoping to do some kind of workout tonight, even if its just taking a walk. I'm super hungry right now - DH better get home soon!!!

I am no help on strollers - I haven't really liked any of mine. Maybe I'll find a good one this time around.

Wow, this was one busy board! I haven't been on much due to the constant nausea I feel in the afternoons/evenings. I did manage to do KickMax the other night and that's about it for me all week. I went to the dr. today and managed to gain 2lbs despite my nausea. Must be the junk I'm putting in my mouth like carbs and candy! Anyway, no u/s until 2 weeks from today. The dr. said to keep in mind that there's a possiblity I could have twins! She said my early nausea and nausea that I don't normally have with my pgs plus my age could be signs of twins, but we won't know until the u/s. So I will anxiously be waiting for the u/s and see what's going on in my uterus!

Kate - Glad your nausea is staying away. That's what I'm waiting for.

Morris - How did your appt go?

Jen - Did you ask your dr about it? How far are you now?

Maggie - I'm jealous that you have all that equipment! We have no room in our house although I would love to have one big room dedicated just for working out and excercise equipment!

Kristan - Strollers have come a long way from when I last used one.

Anne - How are you feeling these days?

Anyway, I gotta get some work done plus do some grocery shopping while I feel decent. In a few hrs I can see my nausea creeping back in. I can't wait for the 2nd trimester to be here! I miss working out and feeling somewhat normal. I think I'll do some 4DS today. We'll see.

Lisa

Lisa, TWINS!!! That is DH's dream! We'll keep our fingers crossed for you! Sorry you're not feeling well. I'm starting to get a little icky right no but I don't think it will get worse. Hopefully I can go to bed in a couple hours. I'm supposed to be doing payroll stuff right now - better run!

Kate - My DH would be thrilled and I'm just happy for anything healthy! Are you having problems with consitipation by any chance? My dr. says between the iron and pg hormones, it just happens, but eugh, I'm miserable. That and nausea combined is not fun. I'm gonna go walking with the kids right now despite feeling nauseaus. Hoping it'll make me feel better maybe.

Lisa

Jen--hope you feel better soon. I know I sound like a broken record saying that:p. For easter, we'll go to church and then come home and hang out. I just do not have the energy this year to host a big family dinner-usually I do that. The kids will do and egg hunt and grandma will give them easter baskets and such.

Kate--sounds like you are over the hump--hopefully--my most intense morning sicknesses were not as long lived as this pregnancy.

Morris--Oh joy--the glucose test--ranks up there with the horrible feeling of having a totally swollen bladder on ultrasound day which is coming up for me. I'm feeling passive agressive--what will they do if I just don't drink all that water? I mean usually they have me go pee right away because my bladder is too full. Why not spare myself the misery and drink less to start with? Well--enjoy that lovely beverage}(

Kristan--My son would love a career that involved video games....hmmm...GS is a good workout--it is long, like Morris shared, but it can easily be split into standing legs and floor work workouts. There are 2 timesaver premixes as well. SS/PP are okay, but I think they are lighter workouts when done as is. I like to use them post partum when I'm getting back into working out. The premixes make them more intense. I actually don't reach for them all that much--I prefer heavier weight training to endurance, though.

Lisa--my husband wanted twins too--was praying for twin sons (not that he really cares about the gender all that much), but the Lord knows what I can handle, right? Anyway--that would be really exciting--I can't wait to hear! It is nice to have all the equipment that we have, but the garage can get very cold in the winter, so I don't use it all year.

Hi everyone else!

Maggie:)
18 weeks, 3 days

maggie, i loved your last line - yes, the lord knows what we can handle! how are you feeling? and since you said you prefer heavy to endurance work, what do you think of slow and heavy?

hi kate - hope the nausea beast stayed away a bit more.

hi lisa - interesting about the twins. 2 whole weeks to wait seems so long!! but, i know what you mean about just wanting baby healthy.

this pregnancy is so strange to me. with ds, i never missed a 4:30 am workout, before and after pregnancy. it just didn't happen. more and more with this pregnancy i exercise in the afternoon. even not pregnant i cannot run as far as i am runnng now in the afternoon. so, suffice it to say i slept in and have to hit the treadmill this afternoon. my chest is so sore from gs chest on wednesday!

bbl everyone!

Lisa-Just a quick e-mail...Colace has been my Godsend for constipation (it's a dr. recommended stool softener). I know it's not the greatest topic to discuss, but it has seriously worked wonders. I don't remember being this bad with my first pregnancy.
-Jen

Lisa, the walk will help the constipation. I can totally relate. Pre-preg I was constipated ALL THE TIME despite a mostly clean diet, 6-day a week WO's, and more than a gallon of water a day. For some magical reason its slightly better since this PG and I can manage to go every 2-3 days. Yes, that actually is an improvement. It totally baffles me because I am exisitng on nothing but refined carbs. Pancakes, white rolls, pizza, spaghetti. I should be more const. than EVER but somehow I'm not. My 3-yoDD is plagues by constipation. Our dr. recommended Miralax and it works wonderful for her. It draws water to the intestines and make sit much easier for her to poop, but she thankfully never has an "explosion", if you will. LOL. Hope you get some relief. Try switching your prenatal. The first one I was ever on I was CRIPPLED with constipation and I had no idea it was my vit. that was causing in. I was laying in bed crying so hard because it hurt so bad. Switched vits and it went away.

Maggie, I say don't worry about slogging down all the water. IMO, you don't need that much. A nurse told me before too that she thinks its overkill too. I agree with you on SS/PP.

Morris, Glad you're getting good runs in. I love the DOMS from GS C&T.

Hello Jen! Glad you have some relief in the bowel dept!

---------------------------------
I've had a pretty good day. I def. think I'm "over the hump" but I still have my moments. I threw up last night and this afternoon but the nausea left after my time at the GWT so I'll take it. Puking, to me, is WAY better than that awful non-stop nausea!

Not sure about a workout yet. I haven't done one since last Tues.! This is my longest span yet.

The top button (button-fly) of my favorite jean skirt will not button. Maternity clothes are comin'! YAY! I can't wait to really pop so I don't just look chubby. Soon! So far I'm just leaving the top button undone and wearing a big belt to cover the evidence.

Everybody have a GREAT weekend!

Hi,
Well, the nausea bug is still with mex( . It just hits at all different times. Tonight, all I could eat was a Lean Cuisine panini, and my DH and FIL had a steak. The smell of the mushrooms that they were making with the steak actually gagged me. I am just about 11 weeks, so this should be going soon (hopefully). I did manage to do TJ Cardio Party yesterday and P90X Legs (not the pull-ups) and Cathe Basic Step Abs Add-on (they felt great). Lastnight, I got on Netflix and ordered Amy Bento kickboxing (the extreme one), and one of the extreme weight workouts. I moved them to the top of the queue, so they should be here very soon:7 . Can't wait to try them!

Morris-I have got to make time to get out for walks. Runs would be even better... This was my first day off for spring break, and I spent it with my DS since it was his birthday. Tomorrow, we are traveling, so I will have to go for a walk before anyone gets up.

Lisa and Kate-This time around, constipation has been really bad with me too. And, I used to be so regular (daily, same time), so this does not feel right to not go every day. The Colace has helped me alot. I know, I know, TMI!

Maggie-I always feel that I can drink more water. How much do you drink a day?

Kate-I am starting to not fit in my "big girl" pants anymore. I can squeeze in them, but not for long. I am running out of pants that I can wear (I have 3 pairs). I went online to Gap.com and ordered 2 pairs of khakis, so hopefully they will fit. I ordered two sizes so I can just return the ones that don't fit to the store. They had some good sales, so I sort of snuck in some other goodies}( .

Happy Easter!
-Jen
