TTC/Preggers Check-In Jan 6

hi guys

how is everyone this week?

anne, i too thought dh was having surgery/had surgery recentely. hope things are well?

melanie, do you have help coming during dh's surgery, or will you get time off?

lisa, how are things going? are you temping these days?

jen, hope you are feeling good this cycle. my fingers are crossed.

hi kristan - we have different pregnancies i think. i tend to gain a lot first trimester then minimal 2nd, and lost last time 3rd. we will see what happens this time, but i hope to not get too huge! i am still really active, except today!

today is a horrid day. i got sick last night and couldn't sleep at all last night. projectile vomiting began around 3 this morning:( ii keep thinking it must be food poisoning, but i did not eat after 3pm yesterday - i was out shopping and had soem treats that tasted good at the time but have been giving me nightmares since:( i stayed home from work, but ds is at day care today. i slept 4 hours this morning and am now trying to get moving and will my self to feel better. it is not working. no workout yet, needless to say. it usually makes me feel better, but i feel terrible. today may end up a rest day.

on a different note, anyone familiar with clinical signs of listeriosis? 2 cases near by, and both pregnant women aborted.i am nervous.

take care everyone

It wouldn't hurt to call you doctor. Please keep us updated and hope you feel better soon!

What are the symptoms of listeriosis?

A person with listeriosis has fever, muscle aches, and sometimes gastrintestinal symptoms such as nausea or diarrhea. If infection spreads to the nervous system, symptoms such as headache, stiff neck, confusion, loss of balance, or convulsions can occur.

Pregnant women - They are about 20 times more likely than other healthy adults to get listeriosis. About one-third of listeriosis cases happen during pregnancy.

Can listeriosis be treated?

When infection occurs during pregnancy, antibiotics given promptly to the pregnant woman can often prevent infection of the fetus or newborn.

Hi everyone, I guess I'll join now. I know some of you already;). I'm only 8 weeks along and I feel lousy--nauseaus and tired. Our extended family is very unhappy that we are having another baby, so that hasn't helped, but my husband is running interference, so they're giving him all the flack and not me. He can handle them well. The kids are really excited.

Morris--I think listeria is associated with soft imported cheeses and cold lunch meats. I've been super sick during pregnancy (norovirus) and everything has been fine. My doctor told me that in the last ten years of his practice, they've only had one case of listeria that ended in a death and that involved soft imported cheese. I'd give my doc a call, but your baby is probably fine. (((hugs))).

I've been paranoid about toxoplasmosis, because we got two new kitties in September. I never change the litterbox, but I'm nervous even to touch the cats or to kiss the kids if they've been cuddling and kissing the cats. I've been washing my hands obsessively.

take care, everyone!
Maggie:)

Morris - I hope you start feeling better and yes, please call your dr. Stay hydrated so your uterus doesn't start contracting. Keep us updated and posted when you're feeling better. Yes, I'm still temping. Waiting to ovulate. Should be in a couple days or so.

Hi Maggie! Welcome! I think as long as you don't touch the litter it should be fine. You might have an immunity to it depending how long you've had your kitties. How many kids do you have?

Hi Autumn!

Melanie - I kept meaning to ask you prior times, but kept forgetting - did your dr. say how long you should use clomid before stopping or trying something else? I'm leaning toward no clomid, but wondered what my timeframe would be if I did do it.

I just got through doing BM2 bootcamp. Whew, what a fun workout! Better get going and start work and my errands!

Lisa

Congratulations Maggie!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Email me some fertility dust. :)

Nice to "see" you again.

Take care and God bless!

hi everyone

autumn, thanks for the info. i did call my doc, seemed to think norovirus, like maggie mentioned, was the culprit. after sleeping most of the day i am a bit better. i put some yougart in my tummy, and it has stayed down thankfully. hopefuly i will be myself by tomorrow.

maggie, congrats! i remember you from the forum when i was pregnant with ds in 2005/06. i hope your family will back off. are you excited? hope you feel better soon. i do think exercise helps enormously.

lisa, hoping you catch that egg this cycle! great workout.

anyone see the update about cathe's sts? i must say, i am not super excited as i have somany strength workouts already and don't get bored with them. i love new cardio and can never have enough even though i refer to run. the discount thing is so appealing, though. hmm. not sure.

I am glad you called the doc and hope you feel better soon. With the 2 women in your area, calling the doc was good.

Hope you feel well soon!

Morris - I'm glad you're feeling better and it's not anything serious. I don't know either about the new dvd series. I would like to hear other people's feedback on it first. And 3 months is a long commitment time which I could do, but I would have to really be into it and to not know before purchasing it for me is kind of iffy. I wonder how cardio fits into the series.

Autumn - Thanks for the info. Do you know what comes afer clomid? I don't want to get myself involved in a whole lot of "fertility procedures" being this would be my third child. I think I would settle for 2 if it gets all complex or take the wait and see/not prevent approach.

Lisa

Morris and Lisa- I am NOT getting STS. I feel the same as Morris- I have plenty of strength stuff with which I never get bored; I feel the same as LIsa in that I cannot commit to such a long program. THe price is a little steep for me.

Maggie- welcome back. How many kids do you have? I seem to think 5 or 6.

I am planning to do cardio tomorrow- should I do Step Blast or Rhythmic Step?

good morning. boy am i glad i am better. i feel about 70%, and i will take it. my tummy is still not quite right, but part of it must be the fact i only ate an egg yesterday. i then exercised this morning and ran out of steam at mile 6. that is fine though. now my breakfast is like a lump in my belly, but hopefully i will be in good shape soon.

kristan, i love step blast. that was a weekly staple during my first pregnancy up until i delivered. i have not done it much lately, but i love tacking the blast challenge on the end of something.

lisa, sounds like you are on the fence with the clomid still. the thing is, you really have nothing to lose by trying it, as it is not very expensive from what i hear. anyways, just a thought.

anyone know if/when cathe will do some more cardio? this sts thing will likely take many many many months. i would love more workouts like drill max and body max 2.

take care everyone.

Boy, I missed a lot, eh? Just a few comment before we go off to mom's group:

Morris, I'm glad you're feeling better. I remember that your not suppose to get lunch meats b/c of listerosis risk, and unpasterized stuff. That's all I know. I'm glad your feeling better. We don't have any family around to help with kids during DH's surgery. Our friends have not been helpful either. Once when my DH was in the hospital a couple years ago, we asked my retired MIL to come stay with the kids for a couple of days (while I worked and drove to hospital an hour away). She literally laughed at me. It was sad, but reality. We find it easier to just pack everyone up and endure. I find that the dog is the biggest struggle. We'll be fine. :)

Maggie, is this baby six or seven for you? I"m so excited for you. I really enjoyed checking in with you a couple pg's back. Is your little on 4 now?

Lisa, my dr didn't really say anything about clomid, except she used it for a cycle. I asked for it, and she gave it to me. About 50% women get pg within first 3 cycles. I feel AF coming on in next couple days. Hopefully I can get TCYF book read enough to start charting within that timeframe. What does "CD" stand for again in TTC lingo?

Kirstan, I haven't done step blast in a while, but I sure liked it.

I won't be preordering any of Cathe's new DVDs. As a strict cardio lady, it just doesn't interest me at all. In fact, it saddens me b/c I have followed Cathe since about 2002. I am for the first time in a long time venturing out and trying others like Amy Bento and Tracey Steahle. I'll continue to run in spring/summer and hopefully get an ellipitcal whenever our other house sells!

Have a great day ladies!

I couldn't decide between stepblast and rhythmic step so compromised: I did the first three sections of SB and then the step challenge from rs.

I am so hungry all the time- and craving bean burritos and cashews (not together though). Wonder what that's all about?

Melanie - "CD" stands for cycle day meaning what day of my cycle I'm on before expecting AF. What kind of charting do you do with the book? Cervical mucous, temps?

Kristan - I used to eat bean burritos all the time when I was pg with dd. I love both Step Blast and Rhythmic Step. I hope Cathe makes another CD like those.

Morris - Wow, you go girl with getting back on track to running so quickly! I would still be lounging in bed! I love Body Max 2 and Drill Max also. It has just enough cardio and just enough weights to keep me interested throughout and still have a great workout. I notice I tend to gravitate towards her DVD series with BM2, Drill Max, B&G and LIC more than any of the others. The only old ones I pull out somewhat regularly are IMAX2 and the GS upper body series.

So I had a positive opk last night so we're keeping busy until my temp shoots up to indicate post ovulation. I'm going for a run later this afternoon and doing some weights in a bit. The kids finally go back to school on Monday. Can't wait to get back on a normal schedule!

Lisa

Lisa, I think I understand your CD (finally). So based on an "average" cycle, CD=14 would be ovulation? Taking Charge of Your Fertility teaches 3 methods, cervial mucous, temps, and cervical position. When I was in anatomy & physiology class they taught us that temps need to be done FIRST thing BEFORE you even get out of bed. Is that what you do? My bathroom is attatched to our bed. Do you suppose it'd be okay to take temp after 10 steps or so? Ha Ha, I know, a silly question, but our professor was dead serious about first thing in AM.

Kristan, I crave burriots pg or not!

Morris, your superwoman, hands down!!!!!!

Did Tracy's high step 2 intervals 1-2 and Amy Bento's AS2 sections 1-2 today. It felt good to get nice and sweaty. I just don't get to workout as much as I'd like too.

Once our house sells I am RUNNING to the nearest sports shop and buying myself an elliptical machine!!!!!!!!!!!!! Unfortunately, noone's looked at our house for months. It's bumming me out... Think Spring!!!!!

Hey ladies,
Sorry I've been MIA. I've stopped temping and being on the boards so much b/c I need a break from all of the TTC stuff. Hoping I can just get back to 'normal'. I've stopped the Clomid too...which I hope helps my mood.

Yes! DH surgical consult is on 01/18 to see if surgery would help fix the veriocele and increase his sperm count. It's only at 5 million, so I'm hoping it will help it somewhat.

Lisa - After Clomid they usually will start doing a bunch of tests for you and DH to determine what the problem might be. Having 2 children already, I'm not sure they would be too concerned about you quite yet. The next steps depending on what they find out about which of you might be posing the problem, might be IUI or IVF. IUI is just artificial insemination (approx $400). That's what we might do next. They just take DH sperm and inject it right into the cervix, so they don't have so far to swim! They do that when you get a + on your OPK so they're ready and waiting when that egg shoot loose.

IVF is more invasive and expensive (approx $20,000). That's when they harvest your eggs and his sperm, get them together for a few days and then implant them into your uterus. Something we can't afford at this point.

Melanie - Yes, you have to take your temp before you do anything at all! They even say that you should have your thermometer on your night stand, so all you have to do is reach over for it. I've noticed it does make a difference if you get up even an hour before you're normal time...good luck temping!

Anyway, I hope everyone is doing well and I'll do personals when I get back. I may be a way for a bit or try to pop in once in a while. I need to take a break as this is all causing a toll on my life right now.

Welcome Maggie and congrats to you!

Hi Lisa!

It depends. The next step is usually a HSG (hystersalpingogram). I had the HSG during my diagnostic lap. The results of any proceudres would determine the next step of treatment. In most cases, injectables are the next step in meds. I did a combo of clomid/follistim. This is assuming labs were done before the clomid but treatment/managemnet varies. Oh, and your DH would have a semen analysis done at some point.

Remember in ANY couple, you should seek evaluation after one year of RANDOM acts of intercourse (6 mos. if the woman is 35+). If you are having fertility focused intercourse, then you should seek evaluation sooner.

HTH!

Autumn
