Trying to lose the Baby Weight....

Hello everybody, I am a first time poster but long time Cathe Fan

I was reading some of your posts and got a little intimidated because I didn't workout at all really throughout my pregnancy and didn't quite eat as clean as I would have liked, so with that said,
I hope ya'll can help me get back on super track so here it goes:

I had my adorable baby girl Sept 12th and pre pregnancy I was in the best shape of my life (all because of Cathe on Fit Tv and Running and I taught group excercising classes) HOWEVER, instead of making excuses I will just cut to the chase...I GAINED 70 POUNDS!! I was 120 and got up to 190 and I am 5'4
I had a complicated delivery and was not able to workout till December.I tried to get back to healthy eating and I started in mid January working out and now I am down to 140 but the thing is, I have been 140 for 4 1/2 weeks now. I weigh myself every other week but have noticed my body changing just not in poundage. I know how to train and have been changing it up here and there and eating pretty much clean and drinking tons of water, so what gives to this plateu?? I mean, wouldn't I see the scale go down atleast a couple of pounds if I have been going to the gym and doing cardio atleast 5 times a week for the past month or so?? The most I have ever tried to lose was 10-12 pounds but this is different because I am still 140 and I am getting a bit frustrated, I mean, I would love to see atleast a couple of pounds drop on the scale, geez :(

I strength train on odd days and on even days i do cardio, and then i switch it up again by interval training/ circuit training and since I don't have Fit Tv anymore, I can't afford to buy a lot of Cathe DVD's so I need your input on which Cathe DVD's to invest in. I have KickMax and Kick, Punch, and Crunch with the Legs and Glutes workout.

When I had Fit Tv, I did the Intensity Series,Power Hour, Push and Pull and Upper and Lower Body, BUT, I moved, so I don't have my weight equipment right now, the only equipment I have are two 5 and 10 pound weights and resistance bands, but at the gym, I can use the steppers (to use as a bench) and barbell and weights in the aerobic room, so I can always write down the routine and do it at the gym, although I would like some DVD's to work out at home too!

I would love some input and help, I want to be feel great again and be able to get back in my pre-pregnancy clothes (which are all in storage) and make my ex drool

Thank you soooo much!

My first baby girl was born 9/12/03, so great delivery date! The good news is that you were in shape and the body has memory. It will be easier to get back into exercising than someone who wasn't in shape. I recommend imax 2 or 3 both which have shorter premixes but tough cardio. I also recommend bootcamp/ME for toning or bodymax/MIS dvd for toning. You may eventually need one more set of dumbells but I find I can always modify the barbell moves to dumbells. Good luck. You may also want to look into some other instuctors such as Amy bento which are less expensive.

A different kind of question, and maybe a bit too person, so I apologize if it is...

Are you breastfeeding? Many women out here have found that their body tends to hang onto some extra weight until they stop. Just wondering if that could be a culprit for you well.
Most will say that once they stopped bf, the rest of the weight just fell off.

For weights, I personally love SuperSets/Push Pull, Drill Max, LIC...but I tend toward the total body type of work. I also have the Gym Styles and 4DS. After I have the baby, I plan to start with 4DS ans see where that goes, as it looks like a nice combo of cardio and heavy weights to me...which is what my body has typically resonded to.

At any rate, good luck!

Hi, thanks for the replies :)

Unfortunately I had to stop breastfeeding after the 1st month due to an infection I got, but atleast my baby was able to receive my breastmilk for a while!

I try and eat 5 mini meals a day and I do about 30-45 minutes of cardio 4 times, sometimes 5 times a week and as mentioned, strength train and circuit train, so hopefully I will see some changes but it is just aggravating when I know I am working hard and yet the scale won't budge.

Thanks for your words and I will check out the DVD's mentioned and let you know how it goes in the next week!

BodyMax 2 has lots of wonderful premixes. It has weights and cardio. Drill Max is another great one with great premixes. Be sure you are lifitng often enough AND heavy enough! I am a reformed cardio-junkie. Your body will change like crazy when you add heavy enough weights.

And TOSS your scale! Gauge yourself by the fit of one pair of your fave pants.

Make sure you are eating enough too. Too little calories is just as bad as too many. Your nody will hang on to every one and store it as fat.

Good luck and keep us posted!

Hi you guys :)

So another week has gone by and I was tempted by the scale...so I thought, "ok, today is going to be the day that I break that 140 and atleast see a 139, all i want to see is a 3" and NOPE, still 140, I have never plateud like this in my life, however, I did try on some size 8 pants and they practically fell off me, so I know my body is changing but that scale has not gone done 1 freakin' pound......aaarrgghhh....any more suggestions or has this happend to anybody and then all of a sudden the weight just came off???

Thanks you all :)

Another thought, if you continue to eat healthy and exercise and weight doesn't budge, have your doctor check thyroid issues. I am actually supposed to get bloodwork done because at my last check up my blood levels indicicated possible hyythyroidism. My doc says often a women's body changes after a child. I didn't have the issue you had but my doc does say that hythyroidism can cause the body to hold onto weight. I was on the line gestational diabetes during my 2nd pregnancy which is a precurser.

If your clothes are getting looser, go by that , perhaps you are building more muscle.

With my first, I had a 9-pound plateau that was quite annoying. I went on Weight Watchers and that ended the plateau. I was careful to write down what I was eating and that helped me see where I could improve. I was on it for 3 weeks. After that I was just more mindful of what I ate and the weight eventually came off.

I have read about the thyroid problem as you mentioned and I have thought of it but the symptoms didn't add up because my clothes are practically falling off and GUESS WHAT YOU ALL........
......WOOHOOOO,
The weight dropped finally, TODAY IS THE DAY, So i weighed myself and i weigh 135, I couldn't believe it, i was just hoping to see a one pound drop to get to the 30's but it read 135....I can't believe i have come this far...weighing 190 in delivery to now 135...holy moly, all I need is 15 more pounds and I am back to my pre-pregnancy weight and once I get to 125, I can start wearing some of my clothes again....phew! It has been a rough, tough ride, but I wouldn't want it any other way, makes me appreciate all the hard work and as one quote states "without challenges, how will one prosper"

As far as the Weight Watchers goes, I have looked into it and my sister was on it and although she didn't stick to it, she gave me the material she received and so I am using that as a guideline. I may plateu again once I get to 130 and under, but that is when I will do all Cathe since that is how I lost the 10 pounds a couple of years back (way before I got pregnant), hopefully I will be getting TIVO back so I can record her shows on Fit TV once I get that back too.....

I am definetly going to keep checking in with you guys so please keep rooting me on, it is motivating to hear your replies and similar stories.

Thanks You All :)

Hey EVERYBODY! I am back with some great news and I wanted to share and also had a question. But first things first :)
I AM DOWN TO 130, wooohoooo, been a rough ride, but am enjoying the spring weather and take my baby girl, 7months now, in the jogging stroller and she loves it and am at the gym 3 days a week and the other days i am at the park doing cardio or some Cathe DVD's which are kickmax and kick, punch and crunch with legs and glutes :)

All I need now is 10 more pounds to get back into my clothes again which I haven't worn since Jan. 2007
HOWEVER, I am freaking out because underneath my bellybutton there seems to be loose skin, although it was way worse when i was 20 pounds heavier so i think it is shrinking and i had tight abs pre pregnancy and am wondering if i keep shedding the weight and work out my abs hard, will that loose skin get tight again? It is only loose if i bend over but not when i stand upstraight but knowing it is there is bothering me BIGTIME and i just keep telling myself that i still have 10 more pounds to loose and still get my abs tight and it will go away?
Any success stories on that issue? I really would like to be in a bikini by June so all the encouragement is well appreciated, THANKS AGAIN :)
