Trying to lose baby "the baby weight"

Hello everybody, I am a first time poster but long time Cathe Fan :)
I hope ya'll can help me get back on super track so here it goes:

I had my adorable baby girl Sept 12th and pre pregnancy I was in the best shape of my life (all because of Cathe on Fit Tv) HOWEVER, instead of making excuses I will just cut to the chase...I GAINED 70 POUNDS!! I was 120 and got up to 190 and I am 5'4
I had a complicated delivery and was not able to workout till December, tried to get back to healthy eating and I started in mid January working out and now I am down to 140 but the thing is, I have been 140 for 4 1/2 weeks now. I weigh myself every other week but have noticed my body changing just not in poundage. I know how to train and have been changing it up here and there and eating pretty much clean and drinking tons of water, so what gives to this plateu?? I mean, wouldn't I see the scale go down atleast a couple of pounds if I have been going to the gym and doing cardio atleast 5 times a week for the past month or so??

I strength train on odd days and on even days i do cardio, and then i switch it up again by interval training/ circuit training and since I don't have Fit Tv anymore, I can't afford to buy a lot of Cathe DVD's so I need your input on which Cathe DVD's to invest in. I have KickMax and Kick, Punch, and Crunch with the Legs and Glutes workout.

When I had Fit Tv, I did the Intensity Series,Power Hour, Push and Pull and Upper and Lower Body, BUT, I moved, so I don't have my weight equipment right now, the only equipment I have are two 5 and 10 pound weights and resistance bands, but at the gym, I can use the steppers (to use as a bench) and barbell and weights in the aerobic room, so I can always write down the routine and do it at the gym, although I would like some DVD's to work out at home too!

I would love some input and help, I want to be feel great again and be able to get back in my pre-pregnancy clothes (which are all in storage) and make my ex drool :9

Thank you soooo much!

RE: Trying to lose baby

Hey! I had a baby girl in July and went from 120 to 190. Now I'm 135 so you are doing better than me. I'm 5'0. I was in the best shape of my life because of Cathe but just took it too easy while I was pregnant. I wish you the best your story sounds like mine. I had a very easy delivery though.

I like Drill Max but you need a ball and step. Its a really fun circuit workout with really good premixes. Since you have acess to a gym I would say look for more cardio. You have Kick Max and Kick Punch and Crunch so those are really good to have whether you have equipment or not. Most of the other cardio uses a step. Other people on the site can help you better than me.

RE: Trying to lose baby

My baby is 22 yrs old now. But for one month now I've been clean eating 5 small meals a day, working out with heavy weights (4DS) and doing 4 sessions of cardio about 30 min long each. Sometimes I add one more cardio session that's a little longer like step blast or imax 2 both are so much fun. That's what has helped me move from the platue. If your cardio sessions are long cut them back to about 30 to 40 minutes 3 to 4 times per week. Eat 5-6 small meals and make sure you have protein in each meal. Work out with heavier weights. If you've been working the 5 and 10 pound dumb bell for a while it may be time to up the weight on those. Challenge yourself each week.

For weights the DVD's I love are: Pyramid upper/lower body; Muscle max, Muscle endurance, 4 Day Split and Cardio & Weights (it comes with IMAX2 on same DVD). The cardio ones I love are IMAX2, Step Blast, and Low Impact Circuit. You can preview all of these on Cathe's home page before you buy.

Make sure you search these forums for tons of great information on dvd's, clean eating and heavy weight lifting. Best of Luck!!

RE: Trying to lose baby

HI There!

I know its not easy to lose that stubborn baby weight. And IMO, the longer it stays on, the longer it will be hard to get rid of.
My son is almost 14 monthes old now and I to went from 130-176 and I am the same height as you. Everytime I went to the Dr's office I would tell myself that I would run it off when the baby was born but in reality, I wasn't so sure:)
I came home from the hospital weighing, 152 and 2 weeks later was 148 and thats where I stayed. At this point I wasn't back to working out though so I souly relyed on my diet which was not the best. Before baby I couldn't wait to have some kind of structure to my diet, b/c lets face it, if it wasn't nailed down...I ate it. But after baby, I still ate this way. I thought b/c I was bf'ing I could eat whatever I wanted and that the weight was going to magically fall off...that didn't happen either.
I know it was early but 4 weeks after DS was born, I signed up for ww's online and it was the best choice I ever made. Within 3 monthes I had all of my baby weight gone. I did start exercising of course as well. I started back to some lower intensity stuff and after I got the o.k from my Dr I started back full fledge, whatever my body would handle, I did!
After the 3 monthes I stopped following ww's and maintained my weight. Since then I have lost addtional weight and am now 120. So I weigh less then before baby and not following any diet.
Your diet may be fine and it may not be the prob at all but you may want to seriously look at it b/c it may be the problem you need to fix...good luck and keep us posted!
Enjoy that baby of yours, they aren't small for very long!
Lori :)

WOW YOU ALL, THANKS FOR REPLYING AND FOR YOUR WORDS :)
I especially quoted your reply Lori because you know exactly what I am going through. I was thinking about actually joining nutrisystem but it is expensive and I was looking at weight watchers too. I just am a bit uneasy about it because I think I am pretty much eating clean, whole wheat pasta, chicken, fish, veggies, fruits, but maybe I will try it because I really want this weight to come off.
Well thank goodness I started in January before I gained more, but actually the weight was just coming off even though I wasn't excercising at all but now I am stuck at 140....
I will definetly keep you all posted and let you know how I am doing with weight training, which DVD's i decided to get and if I decided to start the weight watchers program.
Would you mind telling me a bit more of the WW Program since it worked great for you....

RE: Trying to lose baby

Hi--I've gained an average of 65 lbs for each baby and have lost it all each time (with the exception of #4, but long story...I'm expecting #7 now). It did take a long time each time--like a year, but slowly and steadily it came off. I've noticed, however, that as I've aged, diet has become increasingly more important and that unless I really watch what I eat, the weight-loss stalls. Gone are the days where I could lose through workouts alone. I'll be forty when this baby is born and I know I'll have to work extra hard with my eating to get back to my normal size.

Hang in there--you'll lose it
Maggie:)

RE: Trying to lose baby

Well, when I started ww's I was bf'ing...so right from the beginning I new I was going to get more food b/c of it. I debated signing up as well b/c I wasn't working and we had just moved into a new home. I didn't really want to put anything else on the credit card but I decided that if it worked, it would be worth it. It was about $60 for 1 month and $100 for 3 monthes. I knew that it would take me about 3 monthes or more to lose the weight plus I knew it was possible for me to throw away $60 but not $100.
I started following it and lost quit a bit of weight in the first couple of weeks. I couldn't beleive it when I stepped on the scale after week 1 and I was down 5 lbs. Then of course it slowed down some, there were weeks I wouldn't lose anything, but then it would double up the next week.
I choose the point system. I was given 30 points which was quit alot. For someone who isn't bf'ing, you will probably get 18-20. Then you get 35 points a week to use however you wish. You can eat them all one day, for a treat, or give yourself a extra 5 points a day. You also get activity points as well. Each food as a point range, the higher the fiber the less points. On the website you put in the fat% fibers and cals and it tells you how many points is in that food. You can also add your favorite recipes in there and it will tell you how many points it is per serving.
The thing is , you may be eating healthy but your portions may be to big.It may be worth a shot! A friend of mine just signed up again and has lost a little more weight. It definitly does work.

RE: Trying to lose baby

Thank you for your replies and info on WW.
So another week has gone by and I was tempted by the scale...so I thought, "ok, today is going to be the day that I break that 140 and atleast see a 139, all i want to see is a 3" and NOPE, still 140, I have never plateud like this in my life, however, I did try on some size 8 pants and they practically fell off me, so I know my body is changing but that scale has not gone done 1 freakin' pound......aaarrgghhh....any more suggestions or has this happend to anybody and then all of a sudden the weight just came off???

Thanks you all :)

RE: Trying to lose baby

Hang in there. You just had a baby. I read in one of my pregnancy books that its "9 months up and 9 months down". If you are bfeeding it continues until you stop. IMO if you have good eating habits and exercise habits the weight will come off, be patient. Your body needs time. I have a 6 and 3 y/o and I was in awesome shape before both and in awesome shape after both. I wasn't until I quit nursing though that things really went back to normal, and that was usually around 10 months after birth to a year.
But also remember your body is recovering from baby, and I am sure that sleep is not in abundance right now, so over training or being over restrictive on your diet may make you feel worse and actually make losing weight harder. Good luck, you will get there!
