Troy Lite ~vs~ Body Pump Barbell

Hi Everyone,

I am considering purchasing a Troy Lite Barbell set and I need some help please. I own a FIRM padded barbell and a Body Pump barbell. My Body Pump bar is about 52" long and very light, between 2 & 3 lbs and it's one-piece. It came with the Body Pump Video and has a set of 1, 2.5 & 5 kg vinyl (sand filled?) plates.

What I'd like to know is how the Troy Lite compares to my Body Pump Set. Are the Troy Lite plates vinyl or rubber coated iron? Is the bar solid or hollow (the BP is hollow I believe). I know it probably seems strange but, the fact that my plates are kg ~vs~ lbs confuses me and makes me think real hard about how much I am lifting I might simply need to purchase Troy Lite plates? I am at the beginner level of lifting (again....) and truly appreciate any descriptions and/or advice from you wonderful gals & guys!

I just got this a couple of weeks ago and it is the best! I have all kinds of weight sets but nothing compares to this. The bar is shorter, making it easier to lift over your head for squats and the weights are rubber. I would suggest getting a second pair of the clips ( I think they are $2.50) so you can add more plates without taking off the clips that are already on there. I have mine set with the 7.5 plates on each end and then add when I want to go heavier and take off for lighter. it really helps with the pyramids when you have to keep going up and down in weight. I now just use a 15 # body bar and the Troy set and don't need anything else (except dumbbells of course!). This is where I ordered them from:

Hi & thanks for your reply. Can you please tell me more about the plates and bar? Is the bar hollow or solid? My Body Pump bar is hollow and has plastic 'plugs' on the end. Are the plates solid rubber or rubber coated? My vinyl plates with Body Pump are filled with something and have the plastic 'plug'.

Thanks again!

The bar appears to be solid, although it only weighs 5 lbs. The plates feel like solid rubber, not filled with anything. It seems to be of a real high quality, and everyone on these boards that has the set really likes them. I have never heard a negative comment. It's the one that Cathe and crew use in all the newer workouts. There are a lot of messages on them over on the Open discussion board, if you do a search you can read more about them.

Hi !

I have a Troy Lite and love it!

I believe the plates are rubber coated iron, so they are solid; definately not "filled" with anything. I also got mine from www.fitness1st.com. They're very friendly and have great customer service. You can email them at [email protected] if you have any questions.

HTH :D

Thanks so much! That's all I needed to hear and it's great to know that they have excellent customer service too!

Another vote for Troy Lite. Also, when you order, you may want to consider getting a pair of 10# weights and a pair of 1.25# weights to have on hand.

Kathryn,
Do you think I should order a extra pair of 1.25 lbs? I am not very strong (YET;-))

Thanks,
~Nicole

The 1.2"# are nice for adding weight in small increments (2.5# at a time). That's especially useful for increasing barbell bicep curls and tricep extentions, IMO. By "extra pair" do you mean 2? Or just a pair to go with the Troy set (which doesn't come with a 1.25# pair). I'd say 1 pair is enough.

Hi, I'm new to the site and I just wanted to ask if there are any retail stores that sell the Troy Lite set? Thanks Linda

Hi & welcome to the site!

As far as I know the Troy Lite was designed for Health Club use and is not available retail. www.Fitness1st.com is the best source from what I can tell...and shipping is based on distance from their store.

Another vote for the Troy Lite set! I LOVE mine and have two other brands. The Troy is my fav. I also recommend getting the 10# plates when you are ready. It comes with 7 1/2 #'ers and I find it a bit tricky calculating the weight amount. 10 #'ers would make it easier to add in your head. (At least for my fried brain! :7) Let us know if you get it.

Hi Debbie :)

Hehehe I had to laugh....that is my biggest difficulty with the Body Pump set I own....the kg's drive me nuts and I did get advice that it's very close to multiply kg's by 2 but it's really 2.2 which is alot with 7.5's ...isn't it???? Heck I don't know! lol

I have the order filled out....working up the nerve to fill in cc info....hehehehe

I also plan to purchase 3 more risers to go with the High Step I ordered from Cathe for my DVD#2!

Ah...this road to fitness is costing alot but the results should be worth it :)

Thanks for the advice on the 10lb plates...I added them to this order with the 1.25's too....may as well go for the gusto :)

Kandy!

Adding is hard enough...I don't want to MULTIPLY! Ha! Yes, the cost is a bit expensive when you are first getting started. Who am I kiding??? I STILL find fitness stuff to spend my $'s on! At least good health keeps you away from the doctor, right? I love my High Step. You will be happy with your purchase of more risers. Have fun. New equipment is exciting. ENJOY!!!
