Trouble hauling the heavy weights for flies

I'm in my last week of Meso 3 and did Chest & Back last night. I know I was supposed to drop down weight from where I was last week, but since it felt too light last week, I went heavier. I was able to do the flies OK, once I had them in place - but getting them from step level up to starting position is REALLY hard. I see you give yours a boost with your leg, but that's still tough.

If I do front raises for my shoulders, would that help to make the move easier?

Obviously, I'm not Cathe, I just want to say to be careful lifting weights that are too heavy. I have repeated shoulder problems. I tend to aggravate my shoulder when I move up in weights. I lose proper form and end up using my shoulder to do the fly/press rather than my chest. Melissa

Thanks, I don't have problems with using my shoulders during the fly itself. My BF suggested I work on the front lift for shoulders to help. I dunno, it feels more like I'm using my bicep in a push motion to get it up there.

I had this same problem with both presses and flyes b/c I had to use dumbbells for both. I felt like I had very little gains b/c I spent so much energy trying to hoist the dumbbells in place. I did start getting my DH to place the DBs in my hands for me and spot and that made a world of difference. If you have that option....

Heather,
That is a great suggestion. I was thinking that after my post, to see if someone could help get the dumbell up.
I really like and prefer to workout alone, however the one downside for me is lack of help with this type of issue, and lack of anyone to ask about proper form.

Yeah, Melissa, same for me. The only person I have around when I'm lifting is my 10 year old daughter. No way she could pick up the weights. Maybe in a couple years - but she's not even heavy enough to ride the John Deere without it stalling. Can't wait until she puts on some muscle! I want her to be my medicine ball partner too.

I am with you on working out alone - I just have DH pop in when I need him briefly then shoo him out :D
