Tried my new step

First of all, thank you to everyone who told me not to worry about a step taking up room in my living room. The thing just slid right under my coffee table and out of sight and I feel sort of foolish for all my obsessive space concerns.

Secondly, I want to say that, although I've only tried it once when my muscles were very well rested, it looks like I'll be able to get my heart rate into its target zone and keep it there without being foiled by some failing muscle group. However, I will not commit to this until I've tried it a few more times. I'm keeping my fingers crossed!

Thirdly, I want to say to those one or two people who said that the Keli Roberts video has simple choreography: NOT!! I've only done it once, but I don't see how I'll ever be able to keep making so many changes. I just picked a few moves I liked and kept doing them over and over and my heart rate stayed right up there. I'm just not very good at following direction :-( I'll try Kathy Smith next and I pray that it's a bit simpler!

Overall, I think I made a good decision. Thanks to everyone for their encouragement!

Hi Nancy,

If you're talking about Keli Roberts "Ultimate Step" video it does get easier each time you do it. I remember I thought it was "complex" my first go round, but as I did it 2 or 3 times more I saw that it was actually pretty basic, it just "seemed" complex when I'd never done those particular steps before.
But you'll learn so many basic steps that you'll see in other step workouts like the turn step, V-step, straddle, etc. It will get less frustrating. :)
Oh, another goodie for really basic step is Gilad's "Step on the Beach in Waikiki" No fancy stuff, just plain step routines! I keep it around for days when I'm not into choreo but want a good solid 1hr step! But very basic steps, nothing fancy at all! :)

The most basic choreography I found was Step Reebok: The Video. This was the one that taught me the basic moves in slow motion and allowed me to practice them over and over until I felt good about moving on to more complex choreography. The music is fabulous; unfortunately, the scenery is very dark and factory-like, and I found it a bit depressing. Kathy Smith's Step Workout video is also a very good video for beginners. Like you, I was a bit daunted by Keli Roberts at first. Good look. Don't give up. If I can do step, believe me, anyone can.

Congratulations, Nancy!
You will notice the same moves in a lot of step videos. For example, the basic. Then there's the turnstep, which Cathe calls a horse shoe. And the repeater. Knees around the world is common and it's fun. Check out the animated versions at
