Tried a new machine at the gym..

I was all dreadmilled out, so I tried a few new machines today. My gym has so many choices, I was a bit overwhelmed, but I just started testing a few. Then I found this awesome machine! It's an elliptical that has an "adjustable crossramp". I was actually able to set the leg workout on a low setting, while still having the resistance on a high setting for challenging cardio. My HR soared into the 150s with seemingly little effort! I think the "crossramp technology" controls the incline, while a separate control controls resistance. Or something like that. I looked at the model and it was a Precor EFX. What a great little machine. It also fit my body much better than half a dozen other machines. I did 45 mins. and felt like I could do another 45, no problem.:)

Is this a new addition to the old elliptical technology, or have I just not been paying attention?

Hi Nancy!

Hey Nancy! What a fun day you had!!! AWESOME ;)

I hate to burst your bubble, GF ;), but Precor's been including that patented "crossramp" on their ellipticals for a long time. And you're right, it is fantastic. We bought a Precor EFX 5.23 (the home version of the club machine that doesn't have the moving arm handles) about 7 or 8 years ago, and it is hands-down the best investment we've ever made in our fitness gear, other than my Cathe DVD's. LOVE IT LOVE IT LOVE IT!!! :) I can't tell ya how much fun it is to do Cardio Coach on my elliptical -- I can't wait for Cathe's mp3 workouts! :D

Sounds like I should have tried a Precor a long time ago, Kathy. I've tried the elliptical many times over the years, but my legs always pooped out on me long before my heart even knew I was working out.

Yes, I did have a fun day! This song on my ipod called "Wake Up" from the end of the movie the Matrix really motivated me. I could just picture Keanu Reeves at the end of the movie walking away from the phone booth in that black coat. Who knew a long black coat could turn out to be the sexiest thing a man could wear?? ;)

It must be great fun to have a Precor EFX at home!

OMG you guys are funny. I was reading your description Nance and couldn't figure out what made it anything new... aren't they all like that with two controls?? I'm missing something.

LOL, actually it's been a REALLY LONG TIME since I've been on an elliptical!!! :p Sheesh on me; can't remember when I last stood on that lovely machine! ;) Of course they aren't all the same. I just can't remember what the one I used could do!

Nance I love it when you enjoy your gym time!!!! :) Super excited you found a new machine for yourself-- what fun!!!

You're right, Ame. I remember the first time I tried one many years ago, it had two controls. I remember having to choose which muscle group to emphasize: glutes, quads or hamstrings. But whatever muscles I chose, they would fatigue within a few minutes. The Precor machine I tried today seemed to work differently. I don't really understand engineering, but this machine seemed to give me the option of having medium "resistance" without fatiguing my leg muscles at all. I dunno. Maybe they're just making them better now. Just know that I loved it!! :D:D No more dreadmill for me!
