And I look like a big dorky goof ball on them, . . but they are so much fun. You two were so right about them. They move a heck of a lot better than my old roller blades. There is something about the wheels. I feel like Apollo Ono, . . I may not look like him but I feel like him anyway. Now the thing I forgot to buy were wrist and knee pads and until I master the art of stopping and not on my face, . . . I probably should get them. My dog hates them or maybe he hates me. No biggie I LOVE them. I'm going to go for 6 miles tomorrow cross your fingers for me, . .I hope I don't get squished by a car. Just wanted to thank you two for your review.

Wonderful Janie! I'm so glad you like them! I love mine so much! Have fun! And, yes, get the protective gear! I look like a little alien when I go out rolling on my LR! LOL! I wear my helmet, wrist guards, elbow pads and knee pads.

My story: When I first started rollerblading, the guy at the store told me I didn't need elbow pads, Nah, he said, you won't hurt your elbows. Well, he was so wrong!! I went out with a friend - not my first time, but we went blading and I stood up too tall and fell backward! Yep, you guessed it! Right onto my elbow! We finished blading the neighborhood and when we got back to her house, my elbow was a mess! I had blood running right down my arm all over the place! I went out the very next day and got the elbow pads! So, moral of this story - GET ELBOW PADS TOO! You never know! Especially if you're as "graceful" as I am!

Have a blast and come back and let us know how your 6 miles go tomorrow!

Elbow pads too!!! I never thought about that, . .I was thinking wrist guards and knee pads for sure, . . . helmet I have, . . . I guess there is a reason they make elbow pads them. I'll let you know how it goes. Thanks again!

Those landrollers are still rolling around in my head! I want them. My husband saw the clip and thought I'd be crazy to even try them and wouldn't like them at all (we are roller bladers and he is a hockey player), but I've been thinking about them since the original thread. I still want to try them... and sheesh, I'm still using my first pair of roller blades from more than 18 years ago!!!!

That is so cool, Janie!!!! I second what Tricia said, get the elbow pads!! And knee pads. I don't use the wrist guards, I find them really uncomfortable but they are probably a good idea.

It didn't take you long to get them :D Did you find them on ebay?

They feel like speed ice skating, . . only with more control. They are sooo much fun! My last pair of roller blades were from 1992! Needless to say that they are all rusted and useless right now.

Carola, . . I wish I found them on ebay. I actually bought them off their site, . .because they had the best return policy. They were actually my 10 year anniversary gift from my husband. He's really good about letting me splurge on things that will keep me physically fit and motivated. Anyway, . . I bought him a $3000.00 mountain bike for his 50th birthday/anniversary present so my Landrollers are nothing compared to that. I used to only use wrist guards because when I fall I always land face first and use my hands to break my fall, . . . I'm a clutz magnet. I deffinitely will not be using them with my crazy dog, . . but they are just so much fun. I feel like a 10 year old and I love anything that makes me feel younger. I get upset when I don't get carded for buying beer. :)

ROTFL!!! You are too funny!!!

I am glad you got them! Your DH sounds like a keeper :)

You are not a klutz!!!! I was thinking the other day that I should put myself in full body armour before I do anything outside. I just got my first roadbike and it took me just a few days to get pulled off it and I look like someone beat me up, my knees, face and forearms were bloody and are black and blue. Thank God for helmets

I'm so happy to know I'm in good company here! LMAO!!!

It's nice not being the only totally graceless person on the face of the earth! It's a miracle I can do step! My DH says I like trying to fly - if you know what I mean!

I'm in the same boat. Although, I never had roller blades...I had the original roller skates and use to spend weekends at the roller rink. That was like 35 years ago!!!:eek::eek::eek:

See what you started Janie!!!! I told DH and DS that I wanted a pair for Maximus and our future bully bean to pull me around the neighborhood like Cesar Milan. :cool:They think I've gone off my meds.:rolleyes:

Carola, that is so funny . . trust me I am a klutz and completely 100% accident prone. People just like to run me over and bump me on the street. It is like I don't exisit. :( I'm all for inventing a sort of invisable full body armour, . . maybe then I wouldn't be such a scardy cat when I go mountain biking. Which by the way you should have seen what I looked like when I first started mountain biking. It was not a pretty sight.

By the way what kind of road bike did you get? I finally convinced my husband to sign up for a triathalon with me (he just turned 50 so he's going through full on mid life crisis) and I need to start road bike training.

Tricia went on my 6 miler today. It was so scary and fun. I don't have the knee, elbow, or wrist pads yet so I only had a helmet but like the total dork that I am I wore my bight yellow running vest so no one would run over me. At one point I rolled right into a vinyard but other than that I'm blood free. Gotta get those pads!

Janie, I bought my first road bike because I decided I wanted to train for a triathlon. I got a Specialized Secteur, it's men's bike. As I was told at the bike shop I have a longer torso, therefore I was leaning to far on even the large women's bike frame. I really like the bike and I trusted the lady at the bike shop. The first bikeshop I went to tried to talk me into a carbon frame and all fancy stuff right away, despite of the fact that this was my first road bike. I am not going to spend over 2,000 on my first bike, if I don't even know that I will stick with biking or triathlon, thank you very much. The Secteur has an aluminium frame and compared to my previous "regular" bike it is pretty light. I am as happy as a clam.

Which triathlon did you sign up for?

I'm up for that!

Ok, let's all get them and have a big rolling checkin group! :D

Janie - Yikes! I would have barely been moving without all my gear! You are one brave sole!

ROFLMAO! - about the rolling into a vineyard! I still can't stop well! I was good on my old rollerblades because the had a heel brake that pivoted, so it was easier than these that are stationary.

I KNOW what you mean about some bike shops sometimes they really want to just make a buck. Luckily my husband mountain bikes pretty regularly and is pretty knowledgable of bikes and we have a good relationship with the bike shop in town. I have a medium quality Specialized mountain bike that I got for $800.00 it doesn't have all the fancy bells and whistles that my husbands bike has but I'm 100% happy with it. It does what it needs to do, . . any how my theory is that unless I plan on winning a race I don't need to spend thousands of dollars. I just need a good quality bike with good quality components.

These are the triathalons I want to sign up for
Napa Valley Vintage Triathlon :
triathlon : Swim 1.2 Miles, Bike 56 Miles, Run 13.1 Miles
I'm to late for this one because it happens next month and I deffinitely need to train for it so I'd probably sign up for next year.

Triathlon at Pacific Grove Olympic Distance :
triathlon : Swim 1500 meters, Bike 24.9 miles, Run 6.2 miles
This one is in Monterey and we vacation there every year.

So many people here are really motivating me to do this. Like Travis, ellesan, and Tricia I want to sign up so that I'll be committed and if I invested in a bike I know that there is no turning back. My husband wanting to do it with me pushes me even more.

Here is the thing. Despite the fact that I lived on an island for 9 years I don't know how to swim and when I say I don't know how to swim I MEAN I'd sink like a rock to the bottom if I tried. So, . . .I embarrassingly would have to sign up for swim lessons. I could probably do the run and the bike portion but the swim would be the hardest. I live in California so the water is far from tropical warm which would make it even harder. Truth is I'm scared outta my skin, . . but now that I've read you are doing one too it makes me want to do one too!

BAWAHAHAHAHA! You sound like me!!! In fact, the swimming will be the hardest part for me too! I am terrified to even compare myself to others because it looks like I doggie paddle  I can do the arm motion - by itself and I can do the leg kicking motion - by itself. But if I have to put the two together - oh my! Not to mention, it certainly would help to breathe every once in a while when you, I just don't have the coordination of arm motion, leg motion AND breathing. I just talked to a friend of mine and said that I have to sign up for swim lessons , get a swim coach or I am going to sink like a rock.

I know what you mean about the water temperature, I hate going in the water unless its 80 degrees (water temperature - not outside temperature) Open ocean - OH.MY.GOSH!!! But I am thinking I need to challenge myself and step outside my comfort zone.

Maybe we can keep each other accountable and check in. Your post makes me feel better though, I thought I was the only one who was terrified about the swim portion. But we can do this!!! Right!!!??? :D:D:D
